Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aid and Ebb Tide: A History of CIDA and Canadian Development Assistance examines Canada’s mixed record since 1950 in transferring over $50 billion in capital and expertise to developing countries through ODA. It focuses in particular on the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the organization chiefly responsible for delivering Canada’s development assistance. Aid and Ebb Tide calls for a renewed and reformed Canadian commitment to development co-operation at a time when the gap between the world’s richest and poorest has been widening alarmingly and millions are still being born into poverty and human insecurity.

Book Beyond Agile Auditing

Download or read book Beyond Agile Auditing written by Clarissa Lucas and published by IT Revolution. This book was released on 2023-05-30 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beyond Agile Auditing shows auditors and organizational leaders how to revolutionize the audit experience. For decades, auditors have unintentionally struck fear in their clients. They are rarely welcomed into an area with open arms and are often viewed as one more obstacle to delivering value. But internal audit serves a vital function in reducing risk and ensuring success for all organizations. In Beyond Agile Auditing, experienced audit and risk management leader Clarissa Lucas shows organizations how to go beyond collaboration and build a partnership between auditors and clients. By leveraging this partnership, organizations can experience more value-added audit work, faster time to results (and resolution), greater engagement and satisfaction from all parties involved, and gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace, By building upon the work of the DevOps community, which reinvented the relationship between two groups that historically saw each other as adversaries and obstacles, Lucas applies new and better ways of working to the audit process. In this reimagined world, auditors (as well as other assurance providers) work closely with their clients to become strategic differentiators instead of obstacles, providing stakeholders value they never imagined. Come join us in this brave new world of audit.

Book Struggling for Effectiveness

Download or read book Struggling for Effectiveness written by Stephen Brown and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2012-09-01 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) allocates vast sums of money each year, providing vital assistance to countless individuals across the developing world. Yet many observers and insiders have sharply criticized CIDA for its lack of concrete results. Presenting a range of work by scholars and practitioners, this collection offers the most comprehensive examination of CIDA's efforts in over a decade. Contributors explore recent trends in Canadian foreign aid, including topics such as its place in Canadian politics, gender and security concerns, advocacy and public engagement, the complexity of CIDA policies, and CIDA's relationship with non-governmental organizations. The perspectives assembled in Struggling for Effectiveness bring clarity to the issue of foreign aid while judiciously gauging Canada's record and offering concrete suggestions for strengthening CIDA's efforts to help people living in poverty. Extensively researched and comprehensive in scope, Struggling for Effectiveness will be indispensable to anyone interested in Canadian assistance abroad and Canada's place in a rapidly changing world. Contributors include Stephen Baranyi (University of Ottawa), David Black (Dalhousie University), Elizabeth Blackwood (Simon Fraser University), Stephen Brown (University of Ottawa), Dominique Caouette (Université de Montréal), Adam Chapnick (Canadian Forces College), Denis Côté (Canadian Council for International Cooperation), Molly den Heyer (Dalhousie University), Nilima Gulrajani (Oxford University), Hunter McGill (University of Ottawa), Anca Paducel (Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva), Rosalind Raddatz (University of Ottawa), Ian Smillie (independent scholar and consultant), Veronika Stewart (Simon Fraser University), and Liam Swiss (Memorial University of Newfoundland).

Book Canada and Africa in the New Millennium

Download or read book Canada and Africa in the New Millennium written by David R. Black and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2015-03-31 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Canada’s engagement with post-independence Africa presents a puzzle. Although Canada is recognized for its activism where Africa is concerned, critics have long noted the contradictions that underlie Canadian involvement. Focusing on the period following 2000, and by juxtaposing Jean Chrétien’s G8 activism with the Harper government’s retreat from continental engagement, David R. Black’s Canada and Africa in the New Millennium illustrates a history of consistent inconsistency in Canada’s relationship with Africa. Black combines three interpretive frames to account for this record: the tradition of “good international citizenship”; Canada’s role as a benign face of Western hegemonic interests in Africa; and Africa’s role as the basis for a longstanding narrative concerning Canada’s ethical mission in the world. To examine Africa’s place in Canada’s foreign policy—and Canada’s place in Africa—Black focuses on G8 diplomacy, foreign aid, security assistance through peace operations and training, and the increasingly controversial impact of Canadian extractive companies. Offering an integrated account of Canada’s role in sub-Saharan Africa, Black provides a way of understanding the nature and resilience of recent shifts in Canadian policy. He underscores how Africa—though marginal to Canadian interests as traditionally conceived—has served as an important marker of Canada’s international role.
