Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Chrysanthemum Culture for America: A Book About Chrysanthemums, Their History, Classification and Care To all who cultivate the Chrysanthemum - the Star-eyed Daughter of the Fall - the author presents this little volume that he has endeavored to make replete with tidings of the Autumn Queen. Numerous works have been devoted to this favorite flower, but they are chiefly of English origin, and in view of the great difference in our climatic conditions, they can only with uncertainty be adopted as guides in our country. There have also been issued a few excellent treatises on the Chrysanthemum, that except in a casual manner do not deal with anything further than mere cultural details, and it is therefore hoped that the ensuing pages will be of interest to those who are desirous of obtaining, in addition to cultural instructions, a brief history of their favorite flower, gleaned from many sources. Download or read book Chrysanthemums and Their Culture Illustrated written by Edwin Molyneux and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Chrysanthemums and Their Culture (Illustrated): A Practical Treatise on Propagating, Growing, and Exhibiting, From the Cutting to the Silver Cup Many times have I been requested to detail my experience of the cultivation of the Chrysanthemum for the benefit of others, but I preferred to wait until I had reasonable grounds for speaking with confidence upon the subject. In this treatise I have endeavoured to explain as clearly as possible the culture of this flower in all its stages, and I venture to hope that anyone possessing the requisite means may, if the instructions be faithfully carried out, grow this increasingly popular flower well. The chapters of this work have recently been published in the Journal of Horticulture, and I have been encouraged by many flattering letters testifying to their service to beginners in Chrysanthemum culture. It only remains now for me to thank those friends who have so kindly assisted me in the work - namely, Miss J. H. Pace for the excellent sketches drawn from nature which adorn its pages, and enhance its value; the proprietors of the Journal mentioned for the illustrations of specimen plants; and Mr. J. Wright, to whom I am indebted for valuable suggestions and for his services as Editor of the work. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
