Book A Nearly Infallible History of Christianity

Download or read book A Nearly Infallible History of Christianity written by Nick Page and published by Hodder & Stoughton. This book was released on 2013-10-10 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Abelard to Zwingli, via a multitude of saints and sinners, Nick Page guides us through the creeds, the councils, the buildings and the background of the Christian church in an illuminating, and perhaps ever so slightly irreverent way. Well-known as a writer, speaker, unlicensed historian and general information-monger, Nick Page combines in-depth research, historical analysis and cutting-edge guesswork to explore how on earth the Christian church has survived all that 2,000 years of heroes, villains and misfits could throw at it (mostly from the inside) to remain one of the most influential forces in the world today. 'I was predestined to read this.' John Calvin. 'I felt my heart strangely warmed. Or it could have been indigestion.' John Wesley.

Book Infallibility and Interpretation

Download or read book Infallibility and Interpretation written by R. J. Rushdoony and published by Chalcedon Foundation. This book was released on 2000 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors argue for infallibility from a distinctly presuppositional perspective. That is, their arguments are unapologetically circular because they believe all ultimate claims are based on one's beginning assumptions. The question of Biblical infallibility rests ultimately in one's belief about the character of God. They believe man is a creature of faith, not, following the lightenment's humanism, of reason. They affirm Biblical infallibility because the God Whom the Bible reveals could speak in no other way than infallibly, and because the Bible in which God is revealed asserts that God alone speaks infallibly. Men deny infallibility to God not for intellectual reasons, but for ethical reasons - they are sinners in rebellion against God and His authority in favor of their own. The authors wrote convinced that only by a recovery of faith in an infallible Bible and obedience to its every command can Christians hope to turn back evil both in today's church and culture.

Book Infallibility in the Church

Download or read book Infallibility in the Church written by Austin Marsden Farrer and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two Anglicans and two Roman Catholics discuss 'Infallibility'. If the Church has authority to teach, as most Christians grant, what is the precise nature of this authority? Austin Farrer opens the discussion with his accustomed insight. The other three contributors provide a number of important historical, biblical and theological considerations, in a friendly and readable manner. Newman's hope for 'a wise and gentle minimising' sounds pusillanimous but is intellectually courageous, and sets the standard. The tradition of the Orthodox Church and Vatican II provide further reference points. At the end Austin Farrer's criticism of the Roman position remains on the whole unanswered. But together the papers open up possible avenues of fruitful discussion on a point which must eventually be resolved.

Book Christianity and Infallibility

Download or read book Christianity and Infallibility written by Daniel Lyons and published by . This book was released on 2015-09-27 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christianity and Infallibility: Both or Neither The zealous and learned author of this work was delayed in its first publication on my account; a pile of manuscript was too much for me. However, I forced myself to get through with it when I considered how very much more he had to do who had written these papers; and he, too, was sick. Father Lyons was a ceaseless worker. In the great University of Maynooth his industry and ability made him a class leader - a much-coveted honor. When, after some years on the mission, his health rendered him unfit for the active duties of a priest, he still yearned to co-operate, in some way, with the Divine Master in the salvation of souls. Here came to him a thought which he made known to me: "The American people are intellectually the most just people on earth, no people are more open to conviction. If I can prove to them that Christ Our Lord instituted an infallible authority, that this authority was to last for ever, and that the Catholic Church is this authority, the whole case is won." Thus he thought, and for this purpose, and this alone, did he work. This new impression is brought out to make reparation for the original delay. If any financial advantage should come from the sale it will be turned over to St. Thomas Aquinas Sanitarium, Mentone, Cal., for the benefit of the poor sick sufferers cared for by the Sisters of Mercy. This, too, will be the wish of the author; for he loved the sick and poor of Jesus Christ. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Infallible written by Hans Küng and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When it first appeared, in Germany i 1970 and in Britain in 1971, this books sparked off the greatest theological debate since the Second Vatican Council and finally caused the author to lose his licence from the church to teach. However, the question is still far from being settled: on the contrary, events of recent times from Pope John Paul II's nomination of bishops and statements on birth control to the publication of a world catechism and 'Veritatis Splendor' show that it has become an even ore urgent one. Long unavailable, 'Infallible?' now reappears with a new preface by Gerbert Gaaf and a survey of the discussion.
