The promotion of literacy in our young people will be made easier when these New Nursery Rhymes are introduced to the children of our modern times! Anjo Gamiarha is the father of six children who are now all adults. As his children were growing up they inspired him to write updated nursery rhymes that his children could relate to and that would make their own time reading and writing more fun. His children's questions about life and their love of being read stories was the reason Anjo delighted in coming up with his own stories that taught his children moral principles that he wanted them to live by. But often Anjo would just make up fun characters in his mind and have his children to do the same. The author has been married to his wife for over forty years and she was the main teacher of the moral lessons that he hopes were "caught" in his poem stories. Some of Anjo's work has appeared in independent Christian School curriculum for early readers. Anjo has a B.A. in English Creative Writing and a Masters in Biblical Studies. He is looking forward to doing more writing in the future to inspire the love of literature now in his grand children and all children.

Book Signs of the Times

  • Author : Colin McNairn
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2021-06-04
  • ISBN : 9781954353695
  • Pages : 102 pages

Download or read book Signs of the Times written by Colin McNairn and published by . This book was released on 2021-06-04 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Signs of the Times is good clean-or not so clean-fun in two ways. It's a joy to be reintroduced to so many dearly loved and justly renowned nursery rhymes, long after their sparkle and pungency may have faded from adult memory. It's also fun to see what an informed and somewhat sardonic modern sensibility makes of them anew in the context of these times we are all now living through. -Bruce Bennett, Emeritus Professor of English, Wells College Colin McNairn is clearly having fun as he rewrites nursery rhymes to comment on the wider world. With jabs and plentiful jokes ("hickory, dickory, daiquiri"), he happily draws readers into his imaginative wordsmithery. -Warren Clements, Author, The Nestlings Press Book of Fairy Tales in Verse If Mother Goose were writing her nursery rhymes to-day, she would no doubt burnish her MeToo credentials by condemning Georgie Porgie for kissing the girls and making them cry, have Billy Boy, a.k.a. Charming Billy, look for a wife online rather than by pursuing a ground game; warn us against catching a tiger by the toe, given the dangers of nail fungus; and recognize a twinkle, twinkle in the night sky as more likely to evidence a drone rather than a star. These are among the revisionist scenarios portrayed in the 70 plus mature verses in this collection, all of which have been inspired, to some extent, by traditional nursery rhymes. The subject matter of the verses ranges widely and includes, politics, language, the law, dating and mating, social behavior, food and drink, health, sports, commerce, technology, travel, and the natural environment.

Book Time for Rhyme

Download or read book Time for Rhyme written by Margaret Chambers and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-27 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TIME FOR RHYME is a book of original Modern day Poems and Nursery Rhymes. It is aimed at children from about the ages of 3 -8 and is quite quirky and upbeat in the main. Traditional Nursery Rhymes are great but I thought it worthwhile to have some with a more modern twist. With my 3-year-old grandson, I tend to change some of the names to those of friends or others in the family, so he can think of them whilst being read to. The older children may find some of the poems quite funny, whilst others might be quite thought-provoking as in the story about the lion going back to the zoo. The poems have very varied subjects but hopefully, ones that all children can relate to. I do hope that young readers will enjoy them and when they are older, maybe have a go at writing some of their own.
