This book was released on 2019-03-07 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up in the streets of Los Angeles Marc "Animal" MacYoung learned a harsh - and usually ignored - reality about weapons. That is: you're more likely to be attacked by one than you are to attack with one. Being attacked by an improvised weapon is a game changer. It's not all about offense, you have stop the incoming attack, or you'll never get the chance to stop the attacker. This also means the mechanics of defense change drastically. An empty handed block against a tire iron will shatter your arm. You need an item to take that force instead of you.Pool Cues, Beer Bottles, and Baseball Bats is about how to use what's in your environment to defend yourself when you are attacked with a weapon.

Download or read book Convoy Ambush Case Studies written by Richard E. Killblane and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-15 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the enemy adopts a policy to attack convoys, truck drivers become front line troops. Convoy commanders must then become tacticians. How to study war? The student of tactics studies previous fights and mentally places himself in the position of the participants. Knowing what they knew, how would he have reacted? In hind sight, what was the best course of action, remembering that there is no one perfect solution? Any number of actions would have succeeded. The tactician must learn what would have worked best for him. For this reason, I have pulled together all the examples of convoy ambushes. The 20th century, Vietnam War, and current war in Iraq provide a wealth of examples of convoy ambushes from which to study. Unfortunately, the US Army did not record many good accounts of ambushes during the Vietnam War. Much of what is presented in this text is based upon oral interviews of the participants, sometimes backed by official record, citations or reports. For this reason, some of the ambush case studies present only the perspective of a crew member of a gun truck or the convoy commander. Since this academic study works best when one mentally takes the place of one of the participants, this view of the ambush serves a useful purpose. After my own review of the ambushes, I have drawn my own conclusion as to what principles apply to convoy ambushes.

Book Safety Doesn t Have To Be Scary

Download or read book Safety Doesn t Have To Be Scary written by Marc MacYoung and published by . This book was released on 2021-02-18 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever watch a horror movie where a character ignores the advice you yell at the screen? You shout, "Don't!" but the person goes to investigate in the creepy basement where the light suddenly doesn't work, and spooky music plays in the background. Those are known danger signs in movies. Crime and violence have clues that are just as obvious-if you know how to recognize them. This book is about you not walking into dangerous situations. It's not a self-defense book; it's about nonviolent responses that will keep you safe. Think of it as "ways to avoid crime and violence without having to resort to force." For most people-by the time things become physical-it's too late. A far more reliable safety strategy is informed, preemptive action to prevent violence. It's also something anyone can do: -Sometimes it's outsmarting bad guys.-Other times it's not angering people.-Often it is knowing how to behave in certain environments.-And it involves developing simple habits that warn you of danger early on.-But most of the time it's knowing when to leave.Staying safe from crime is easy. Better yet crime avoidance has very little impact on your life.Violence itself can be a little more complicated. Most violence happens between people who know each other. It occurs because of pride, emotion, and behavior. In a potentially violent situation between two people-you are fifty percent of the equation. That's not blame-it's power. And it's a power you can use to prevent violence or provoke it. The choices are yours as are the consequences. The first two purposes of this book are recognition and avoidance. A third is to help you after you've had your sense of safety shattered by crime or violence (or coming back from overseas). Once you know what real danger signs are you don't need the stress of hyper-vigilance or a trauma-driven response to situations that aren't physically dangerous. It's not enough to feel safe-together we'll keep you safe.

Book Where Men Win Glory

Download or read book Where Men Win Glory written by Jon Krakauer and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2010-07-27 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A "gripping book about this extraordinary man who lived passionately and died unnecessarily" (USA Today) in post-9/11 Afghanistan, from the bestselling author of Into the Wild and Into Thin Air. In 2002, Pat Tillman walked away from a multimillion-dollar NFL contract to join the Army and became an icon of American patriotism. When he was killed in Afghanistan two years later, a legend was born. But the real Pat Tillman was much more remarkable, and considerably more complicated than the public knew. Sent first to Iraq—a war he would openly declare was “illegal as hell” —and eventually to Afghanistan, Tillman was driven by emotionally charged, sometimes contradictory notions of duty, honor, justice, and masculine pride, and he was determined to serve his entire three-year commitment. But on April 22, 2004, his life would end in a barrage of bullets fired by his fellow soldiers. Though obvious to most of the two dozen soldiers on the scene that a ranger in Tillman’s own platoon had fired the fatal shots, the Army aggressively maneuvered to keep this information from Tillman’s family and the American public for five weeks following his death. During this time, President Bush used Tillman’s name to promote his administration’ s foreign policy. Long after Tillman’s nationally televised memorial service, the Army grudgingly notified his closest relatives that he had “probably” been killed by friendly fire while it continued to dissemble about the details of his death and who was responsible. Drawing on Tillman’s journals and letters and countless interviews with those who knew him and extensive research in Afghanistan, Jon Krakauer chronicles Tillman’s riveting, tragic odyssey in engrossing detail highlighting his remarkable character and personality while closely examining the murky, heartbreaking circumstances of his death. Infused with the power and authenticity readers have come to expect from Krakauer’s storytelling, Where Men Win Glory exposes shattering truths about men and war. This edition has been updated to reflect new developments and includes new material obtained through the Freedom of Information Act.
