Book Characterizing the Range of Children s Pollutant

Download or read book Characterizing the Range of Children s Pollutant written by Dennis R. Fitz and published by . This book was released on 2004-01 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the Final Report prepared for the Calif. Air Resources Board. Because children's lungs are still developing & children are more susceptible to adverse health effects from air pollution, potentially high pollutant exposures during school bus commutes are of concern. Studies of pollutant concentrations inside vehicles show high exposures are typical, but few studies have attempted to characterize concentrations on-board & near school buses. This study's main purpose was to determine the range of children's exposures during their bus commutes, with an emphasis on determining the specific factors & conditions leading to high exposures & comparing the effects of different bus & traffic characteristics & bus operating conditions. Tables.

Book CHARACTERIZATION OF DIFFUSE CHEMICAL POLLUTION

Download or read book CHARACTERIZATION OF DIFFUSE CHEMICAL POLLUTION written by Dr. Arvind Prasad Dwivedi , M. Suresh Kumar and Prof. I. P. Tripathi and published by Ashok Yakkaldevi. This book was released on 2023-03-11 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concern over pollution sources in integrated water and soil quality management has growing recently. The term “diffuse” essentially point to this feature of the discharge of such pollution loads which makes them somewhat difficult to notice, monitor or control. The focus has been on regulating the point source pollution load from urban and Industrial sources and non-point or diffuse load from agriculture, animal husbandry and rural sources were largely ignored in water quality management. Increasing use of chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, perfumes, cosmetics, petrochemicals, harm aquatic life and human health. Other chemical in recent years has caused the more diffused chemicals pollution (G.D. Agrawal, 1999).

Download or read book America s Children and the Environment written by U.s. Environmental Protection Agency and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-05-31 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "America's Children and the Environment (ACE)" is EPA's report presenting data on children's environmental health. ACE brings together information from a variety of sources to provide national indicators in the following areas: Environments and Contaminants, Biomonitoring, and Health. Environments and Contaminants indicators describe conditions in the environment, such as levels of air pollution. Biomonitoring indicators include contaminants measured in the bodies of children and women of child-bearing age, such as children's blood lead levels. Health indicators report the rates at which selected health outcomes occur among U.S. children, such as the annual percentage of children who currently have asthma. Accompanying each indicator is text discussing the relevance of the issue to children's environmental health and describing the data used in preparing the indicator. Wherever possible, the indicators are based on data sources that are updated in a consistent manner, so that indicator values may be compared over time.

Book Emerging Contaminants Handbook

Download or read book Emerging Contaminants Handbook written by Caitlin H. Bell and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term "emerging contaminants" and its multiple variants has come to refer to unregulated compounds discovered in the environment that are also found to represent a potential threat to human and ecological receptors. Such contaminants create unique and considerable challenges as the push to address them typically outpaces the understanding of their toxicity, their need for regulation, their occurrence, and techniques for treating the environmental media they affect. With these challenges in mind, this handbook serves as a primer regarding the topic of emerging contaminants, with current and practical information to help support the goal of protection where they are encountered. Features Explores the definition, identification, and life cycle of emerging contaminants. Reviews current information on sources, toxicology, regulation, and new tools for characterization and treatment of: 1,4-Dioxane (mature in its emerging contaminant life cycle) Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs; a newer group of emerging contaminant) Hexavalent chromium (former emerging contaminant with evolving science) 1,2,3-Trichloropropane (progressing in its emerging contaminant life cycle) Provides thoughts on opportunities in managing emerging contaminants to help balance uncertainty, compress life cycle, and optimize outcomes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collates the latest trends and technological advancements in bioremediation, especially for its monitoring and assessment. Divided into 18 chapters, the book summarizes basic concepts of waste management and bioremediation, describes advancements of the existing technologies, and highlights the role of modern instrumentation and analytical methods, for environmental clean-up and sustainability. The chapters cover topics such as the role of microbial fuel cells in waste management, microbial biosensors for real-time monitoring of bioremediation processes, genetically modified microorganisms for bioremediation, application of immobilized enzyme reactors, spectroscopic techniques, and in-silico approaches in bioremediation monitoring and assessment. The book will be advantageous not only to researchers and scholars interested in bioremediation and sustainability but also to professionals and policymakers.

Book Contaminants in the Subsurface

Download or read book Contaminants in the Subsurface written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2005-04-23 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At hundreds of thousands of commercial, industrial, and military sites across the country, subsurface materials including groundwater are contaminated with chemical waste. The last decade has seen growing interest in using aggressive source remediation technologies to remove contaminants from the subsurface, but there is limited understanding of (1) the effectiveness of these technologies and (2) the overall effect of mass removal on groundwater quality. This report reviews the suite of technologies available for source remediation and their ability to reach a variety of cleanup goals, from meeting regulatory standards for groundwater to reducing costs. The report proposes elements of a protocol for accomplishing source remediation that should enable project managers to decide whether and how to pursue source remediation at their sites.

Book excerpt: Time-activity diaries kept by members of the general public indicate that on average people spend around 90% of their time indoors, this is associated with considerable exposure to air pollutants. Given its importance as a source of air pollution exposure, increasing attention is being given to pollution of the indoor environment. This volume will consider both chemical and biological pollutants in the indoor atmosphere from their sources to chemical and physical transformations, human exposure and potential effects on human health.
