Book Fundamentals of Optical Parametric Processes and Oscillations

Download or read book Fundamentals of Optical Parametric Processes and Oscillations written by Alice M. Tang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-25 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study looks at the basic principles of optical parametric processes and recent results on the rapidly developing optical parametric device technology. The theoretical basis of stimulated and spontaneous optical parametric processes and detailed design considerations of optical parametric oscillators and amplifiers are discussed, followed by a review of the materials properties of the most important nonlinear optical crystals for such applications. It concludes with a review of the recent developments on practical low-repetition rate nanosecond optical parametric oscillators and broadly tunable high-repetition rate continuous-pulse-train femtosecond optical parametric oscillations from the uv to the mid ir.

Book Synchronously Pumped Optical Parametric Oscillator with Intracavity Difference Frequency Mixing

Download or read book Synchronously Pumped Optical Parametric Oscillator with Intracavity Difference Frequency Mixing written by Michael Dearborn and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work we experimentally investigate a singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (OPO) with an intracavity crystal that mixes the signal and idler waves, enhancing the power conversion efficiency of the idler radiation. Optical parametric oscillators provide a method for producing coherent tunable radiation from a coherent fixed-frequency pump source. The pump frequency Wp 15 converted to the signal and idler frequencies Ws and Wi, respectively, in the OPO interaction, Wp = Ws + Wi, Ws> Wi. Since the signal and idler frequencies sum to the incident pump frequency, they are always lower than the pump frequency. Extra-cavity difference-frequency mixing (DFM) of the signal and idler from an OPO was demonstrated in some early experiments and recently a number of investigators have examined mixing the signal and idler waves generated from a synchronously pumped OPO to produce long-wavelength difference-frequency radiation. Here the difference-frequency Wd is produced in the DFM interaction, Wd = Ws - Wi. The DFM process not only produces long-wavelength radiation at the difference frequency, but for each difference-frequency photon produced, another idler photon is produced. Thus, this technique also increases the idler-frequency conversion efficiency. Production of the long-wavelength difference-frequency photons may not be possible in a single-step OPO process, due to transmission bands and phase-matching limitations of available crystals and available pump wavelengths.

Book Advances in Optical and Photonic Devices

Download or read book Advances in Optical and Photonic Devices written by Ki Young Kim and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title of this book, Advances in Optical and Photonic Devices, encompasses a broad range of theory and applications which are of interest for diverse classes of optical and photonic devices. Unquestionably, recent successful achievements in modern optical communications and multifunctional systems have been accomplished based on composing “building blocks” of a variety of optical and photonic devices. Thus, the grasp of current trends and needs in device technology would be useful for further development of such a range of relative applications. The book is going to be a collection of contemporary researches and developments of various devices and structures in the area of optics and photonics. It is composed of 17 excellent chapters covering fundamental theory, physical operation mechanisms, fabrication and measurement techniques, and application examples. Besides, it contains comprehensive reviews of recent trends and advancements in the field. First six chapters are especially focused on diverse aspects of recent developments of lasers and related technologies, while the later chapters deal with various optical and photonic devices including waveguides, filters, oscillators, isolators, photodiodes, photomultipliers, microcavities, and so on. Although the book is a collected edition of specific technological issues, I strongly believe that the readers can obtain generous and overall ideas and knowledge of the state-of-the-art technologies in optical and photonic devices. Lastly, special words of thanks should go to all the scientists and engineers who have devoted a great deal of time to writing excellent chapters in this book.
