Book excerpt: Two East Texas families must deal with the aftermath of a marriage that never happened leading to deceit, secrets, and tragedies in a sweeping multigenerational Southern saga "with echoes of Gone with the Wind" (Publishers Weekly). Spanning the 20th century, the story of Roses takes place in a small East Texas town against the backdrop of the powerful timber and cotton industries, controlled by the scions of the town's founding families. Cotton tycoon Mary Toliver and timber magnate Percy Warwick should have married but unwisely did not, and now must deal with consequences of their momentous choice and the loss of what might have been--not just for themselves but for their children, and their children's children. With expert, unabashed, big-canvas storytelling, Roses covers a hundred years, three generations of Texans, and the explosive combination of passion for work and longing for love.

Angie inherited her late grandmother Angela's lakeside cabin. She had no idea it also came with its ghostly past. Alone and isolated in the cabin, far into the mountains, Angie unfurls the mysteries of her family by reading her late grandmother's journal. Instantaneously, she finds herself engulfed in the story of a vampire called Chalice, but only until she nears the end of the journal does she discover there is a connection between Chalice and her family. A RIVETING... ENTHRALLING VAMPIRE STORY ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE, CHALICE Handsome... Alluring...Cruel...A Vampire like no other. Strikingly handsome, cunning yet charming. Chalice creates his world, his way, taking only those who are worthy of his presence. Those who cross the 'master' Chalice suffer the wrath of his dark punishment. Love was a curious emotion to Chalice. An emotion felt only when he crosses paths with a lovely, mortal, Gabrielle. Something stirred deep within Chalice. A need for Gabrielle's exception over powered Chalice, striking an unfamiliar emotion. Those emotions turn to anger and rage when Gabrielle rejects Chalice as her master. YOU MAY NOT WANT TO CLOSE YOUR EYES AT NIGHT. Gabrielle roamed the mountains in search of relief from her tortured existence as a vampire. Seeking aid in her plan to kill Chalice, Gabrielle, blinded by Chalice, finds her way to the cabin. Something strangely familiar within her helped guide her to the remote cabin. In the dark of night, during a thunderstorm, Gabrielle appears in the dim corner of the cabin. Gabrielle reaches out to Angie for help. Shocked at the repulsive figure before her, Angie finds difficulty in comprehending reality. It is only when Gabrielle speaks to Angie and explains her dilemma that Angie realizes she is standing before her great-grandmother.

Book excerpt: DescriptionRose Blood: A Psychosis Induced Fantasy is sourced from the "literary" structures of psychosis, and develops them with the use of the imagination. It is the only one or one of the few of its kind, that of being wrought from mental illness, and not about mental illness. It is about an alternate reality created by the author, whose source is Pandora, and she is a schizophrenic and Jarrad turns into God as he taps into this source and gains powers such as fire hair, space time continuum plane shifts, albino skin, etc that allow him to exist in outer space. The idea is that Mankind needs organic technology of their own bodies as well as outer body technology to be outer space creatures. It posits a white space universe, with black stars. It is a fantasy novel, though short, and the main characters are Pandora, Jarrad Dickson and a mysterious woman named Rose Blood. It has original settings and striking visual elements, and is a strange, dark fantasy and one of its kind in the very popular literary genre of Fantasy. About the AuthorJarrad Dickson was born in 1986 in Auckland New Zealand and grew up in Hahei, and was educated at Dilworth School. He then went to the University of Auckland to study a BA. Though happy as a child, in his teenage years he had an unbelievable torment of depression. After befriending a girl who killed herself he descended into alcoholism and this made him very delusional, and after awhile his brain went haywire and had a tormenting and very frightening psychotic breakdown which lasted two months. He saw his entire life pass before his eyes, but he saw himself be raped, abducted, eaten and saw his principle as an alien from Pluto who was wearing a body suit. After that, he thought he was suing Dilworth, who have millions of dollars of assets, and drew castles he would have at their properties. He frequently overdosed to shorten the time till he got the money. This delusion caused a psychotic relapse as well as using cannabis, and he relapsed the year after he had a psychotic breakdown. On that day, he jumped over James Dilworth's grave in Symonds Street cemetery thinking he would teleport into another dimension where Lily Cole was an albino goddess and was marrying him. He also knows four languages.
