Book Computer Network Architectures and Protocols

Download or read book Computer Network Architectures and Protocols written by Carl A. Sunshine and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about the bricks and mortar from which are built those edifices that will permeate the emerging information society of the future-computer networks. For many years such computer networks have played an indirect role in our daily lives as the hidden servants of banks, airlines, and stores. Now they are becoming more visible as they enter our offices and homes and directly become part of our work, entertainment, and daily living. The study of how computer networks function is a combined study of communication theory and computer science, two disciplines appearing to have very little in common. The modern communication scientist wishing to work in this area soon finds that solving the traditional problems of transmission, modulation, noise immunity, and error bounds in getting the signal from one point to another is just the beginning of the challenge. The communication must be in the right form to be routed properly, to be handled without congestion, and to be understood at various points in the network. As for the computer scientist, he finds that his discipline has also changed. The fraction of computers that belong to networks is increasing all the time. And for a typical single computer, the fraction of its execution load, storage occupancy, and system management problems that are in volved with being part of a network is also growing.

Book Technical Aspects of Data Communication

Download or read book Technical Aspects of Data Communication written by John E. McNamara and published by Digital Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technical Aspects of Data Communication, Third Edition provides information pertinent to the technical aspects of data communication. This book discusses a simple asynchronous interface implemented with a specialized integrated circuit called a UART. Organized into 28 chapters, this edition begins with an overview of the interface standards ranging from the classic EIA-232-D to the EIA-530. This text then describes modems and modem control, with material on high-speed modems and error-correcting modems. Other chapters discuss hardware and software methods. This book discusses as well digital transmission systems and the Integrated Service Digital Network (ISDN). The final chapter deals with local area networks (LANs) and shows how data communication is the key to information and resources sharing in modern networks of personal computers and work stations. This book is intended to be suitable for readers who are about to design a data communication system, are about to purchase a program data communication hardware, or are just interested in learning more about data communication.

Book TCP IP Tutorial and Technical Overview

Download or read book TCP IP Tutorial and Technical Overview written by Lydia Parziale and published by IBM Redbooks. This book was released on 2006-12-19 with total page 1004 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The TCP/IP protocol suite has become the de facto standard for computer communications in today's networked world. The ubiquitous implementation of a specific networking standard has led to an incredible dependence on the applications enabled by it. Today, we use the TCP/IP protocols and the Internet not only for entertainment and information, but to conduct our business by performing transactions, buying and selling products, and delivering services to customers. We are continually extending the set of applications that leverage TCP/IP, thereby driving the need for further infrastructure support. It is our hope that both the novice and the expert will find useful information in this publication.

Download or read book ISDN Design written by Steve Jardwick and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ISDN Design: A Practical Approach is an easy-to-understand reference for ISDN and covers topics relating to both theoretical and practical issues concerning ISDN design, including the ISDN terminal and the ISDN exchange. Software programs for ISDN applications are considered, and many design examples are given throughout the text. This book is comprised of nine chapters and begins with a brief discussion of the need for ISDN technology, both from the point of view of telephone design and from the perspective of PBX design. A refresher of basic concepts needed to understand the subject follows. This includes topics ranging from the theoretical side of data transmission to the requirements of ISDN circuit layout. After this foundation is laid, an overview of the relevant international and national standards that exist in the ISDN telephone world is given. Subsequent chapters deal with ISDN terminal equipment design; the primary access side of the network; software issues raised by ISDN, with emphasis on the effects on system and hardware design; and testing of ISDN designs. The final chapter brings together all of the salient issues facing the ISDN designer and describes an actual ISDN design. This monograph will be a useful resource for both newcomers in design engineering and experienced design engineers.

Book ISDN The Integrated Services Digital Network

Download or read book ISDN The Integrated Services Digital Network written by Peter Bocker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present state of development of communication technology is characterized by two features, namely the digital representation of all signals transrnitted and processed, irrespective of information type - voice, text, data or images - and the integration of systems and services, this integration only being completely possible using digital technology. The boundaries between switching and transmission are shifting, and functions are being redefined and redistributed between terminals and communication networks. Multiservice terminals - unlike telephones, teleprinters, video data terminals - are designed to handle more than one information type. Lastly, the communication network allows voice, text, data and video information to be transmitted on the same circuit; the user obtains access to this network via a non dedicated "communication socket". The essential features of this Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) have been standardized over the last eight years by experts from all over the world under the aegis of the CCITT 1), the international standardizing body of the carriers of public communication networks. All the leading network carriers are working towards ISDN implementation because of the substantial benefits it will offer to users, network carriers and manufacturers alike: Users will obtain additional and advanced services, most of them designated to cater for the growth in non-voice traffic. The ISDN subscriber access will also enable users to operate existing systems more cost-effectively than via various dedicated networks.
