Book Pensees Catholiques Collections II

Download or read book Pensees Catholiques Collections II written by Edward L. Helmrich and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-10-12 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the Trinity, only the second Person of the Trinity became man. But the second Person of the Trinity always acts in union with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus was an only child, but he lived in the unit of the Holy Family. On the Cross, Jesus' death alone redeemed mankind, but he was crucified with two others. So, while Jesus is the sole mediator between God and man, we might look for two co-redeemers. And they would be Mary, who stood at the foot of the Cross, offering Jesus and herself to the God, and Joseph, who had died in their company. The existence of co-redeemers has implications for Our Lady of America: this apparition was recently judged as being without error, but not supernatural because Joseph was referred to as a "co-redeemer." From the above, and from the fact that this title is used by some of the Church Fathers for St. Joseph, maybe the status of this apparition can be reassessed. If it is declared supernatural, Mary's statue can be processed to and installed in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., as she requested. If that happens, Mary promised a spiritual renewal of our country.

  • Author : Patrick W. Carey

  • Pages : 304 pages

Download or read book Catholics in America written by Patrick W. Carey and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2004-11-30 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Roman Catholics have a long and storied history in the United States. From colonial times to the present, this group has seen its share of ups and downs, and has recently come under heated and extensive scrutiny. There is, however, a richer and more interesting history to this important denomination, and Carey details it here. Beginning with an overview of the transplanting of this faith into the New World, the author then details the extensive involvement this community has had in civil and political affairs, social and cultural milieus, and family and everyday life. Focusing on the people and events that have shaped Roman Catholicism in the United States, this broad history introduces readers to a vital American community. Beginning with a narrative history of Catholics and Catholicism in America, Carey brings the discussion through to current times, addressing the recent problems in the Church, women's roles, and responses to terrorism and war. He then goes on to include brief biographical sketches of important figures in the Church, and offers a chronology of key events. The result is one of the most comprehensive histories of Catholics in America available.

Book Catholic Women Writers

Download or read book Catholic Women Writers written by Mary Reichardt and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2001-07-30 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women have been writing in the Catholic tradition since early medieval times, yet no single volume has brought together critical evaluations of their works until now. The first reference of its kind, Catholic Women Writers provides entries on 64 Catholic women writers from around the world and across the centuries. Each of the entries is written by an expert contributor and includes a biography of the author; a critical discussion of her works, especially her Catholic and women's themes; an overview of her critical reception; and a bibliography of primary and secondary sources. Authors writing in all genres, including fiction, autobiography, poetry, children's literature, and essays, are represented. The entries give special attention to the authors' use of Catholic themes, structures, traditions, culture, and spirituality. The writers surveyed range from Doctors of the Church to mystics and visionaries, to those who employ Catholic themes primarily in historical and cultural contexts, to those who critique the tradition. An introductory essay places the writers within the historical and literary contexts of women's writing in the Catholic tradition, and the volume closes with a selected, general bibliography.

An excellent book for personal reading but. . . the perfect text for religion courses, C.C.D. programs, and adult education. - Spirituality Today [A] unique, people-oriented approach to the history of the Roman Catholic church. . . Book Black Saint of the Americas

Download or read book Black Saint of the Americas written by Celia Cussen and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-10-13 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In May 1962, as the struggle for civil rights heated up in the United States and leaders of the Catholic Church prepared to meet for Vatican Council II, Pope John XXIII named the first black saint of the Americas, the Peruvian Martín de Porres (1579–1639), and designated him the patron of racial justice. The son of a Spanish father and a former slavewoman from Panamá, Martín served a lifetime as the barber and nurse at the great Dominican monastery in Lima. This book draws on visual representations of Martín and the testimony of his contemporaries to produce the first biography of this pious and industrious black man from the cosmopolitan capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru. The book vividly chronicles the evolving interpretations of his legend and his miracles, and traces the centuries-long campaign to formally proclaim Martín de Porres a hero of universal Catholicism.

Book The Challenge of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition

Download or read book The Challenge of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition written by Jean Ehret and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2011 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the Catholic Intellectual Tradition (CIT)? What can be its beneficial impact on life in all its aspects, on education, and on research at the beginning of the 21st century? In this collection, contributions written by scholars from Asia, Europe, North America, and South America show that the CIT is by no means a traditionalist reaction to a secular globalized world. Addressing contemporary issues - economical, social, managerial, educational, religious, philosophical, and theological - at a local or global level, they also draw on the Judeo-Christian heritage as it has been and is still preserved, transmitted, and developed in the Catholic Church. They show that the CIT is a powerful creative imagination that is able to make a life-fostering difference in today's world. (Series: Glaube und Ethos - Vol. 10)

Book excerpt: This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!
