Book Cars coherent Anti Stokes Raman Spectroscopy Investigations in Sooting and Turbulent Flames

Download or read book Cars coherent Anti Stokes Raman Spectroscopy Investigations in Sooting and Turbulent Flames written by Alan C.. Eckbreth and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coherent anti-Stoke Raman spectroscopy (CARS) investigations in sooting, laminar and turbulent, propane-fueled diffusion flames are reported. For a 5320 A pump wavelength, using a frequency-doubled neodymium laser, interferences can occur at very high soot densities. For N2 CARS, there are both incoherent and coherent components to the interference. The incoherent interference arises primarily from anti-Stokes fluorescence from C2 excited by Stokes laser absorption. The C2 is created by the laser vaporization of soot particulates, shown to occur even on a nanosecond time scale. The coherent interference arises most probably from electronically-resonantly enhanced wave mixing in the C2. Fortunately, neither interference is very large. By proper experimental design, interference-free CARS spectra from flame N2 can be obtained even at high soot densities. CARS signatures from N2 have been employed to map the temperature field with high spatial precision throughout a small, luminous, highly sooting, laminar propane diffusion flame. Single pulse (approx, 10 nanosecond) CARS thermometry has been demonstrated in various regions of a highly swireld, turbuelnt propane diffusion flame. Based upon these investigations, CARS continues to appear very promising for diagnostic applications to practical combustion sources. (Author).

Book Application of Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Scattering to Combustion Media

Download or read book Application of Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Scattering to Combustion Media written by Larry P. Goss and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A laboratory-based system utilizing the Nd:YAG laser has been developed to investigate the Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering (CARS) of molecular gases in combustion. Single-shot and simultaneous experimental measurements of species concentration and temperature of combustion media are reported and compared with other optical techniques and theoretical predictions. The adverse effects of beam propagation through turbulence are investigated and discussed. A transportable hardened CARS system, constructed to operate in adverse environments, has been used to conduct a series of investigations in a practical combustion tunnel. Temperature and number-density measurements made as a function of fuel-air flow, position in the combustion tunnel, and fuel variation--including both gaseous and liquid fuels--are reported. Book Investigation of the CARS Spectrum of Carbon Monoxide at High Pressure and Temperature

Download or read book Investigation of the CARS Spectrum of Carbon Monoxide at High Pressure and Temperature written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spectroscopic investigations were conducted into the coherent anti- Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) spectrum of CO. CARS is a remote laser diagnostic technique for temperature and species measurements in hostile combustion environments. As such it possesses considerable relevance to the Air Force in the general areas of ballistics and propulsion. This final report describes the results of investigations conducted into the effects of high pressure, specifically the phenomenon of collisional narrowing, on CARS spectra from which temperature and density information derive. Experimental studies of CARS spectra were conducted in carbon monoxide in a heated, high pressure cell over the range 300K-1500K, 1-100 atm. The spectra were used to evaluate the UTRC CARS computer code supplied to RPL for the calculation of CO CARS frequency distributions.

Book Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Spectroscopy CARS

Download or read book Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Spectroscopy CARS written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Spectroscopy (CARS) has been accepted as a very useful tool in combustion diagnostics. CARS is an optical technique in which two powerful laser beams are brought to a focus over a very small region in a medium usually a flame. This produces an output laser-like beam arising from a specific interaction of the laser radiation with the molecules of the gases in the flame and the spectral characteristics of this beam contains information about the temperature and species present in the focal volume. The relevant information from the CARS spectra can be extracted only by comparing it with theoretically calculated spectra. A complex software package was developed for generating the theoretical CARS spectra and for analyzing the experimental spectra. This report describes the tasks undertaken to enhance the capabilities of the existing CARS software package with the aim of detecting species such as NO and O2.

Book Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Scattering CARS Detection Or Hot Atom Reaction Product Internal Energy Distributions

Download or read book Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Scattering CARS Detection Or Hot Atom Reaction Product Internal Energy Distributions written by and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) is being utilized to investigate the rovibrational energy distributions produced by reactive and nonreactive collisions of translationally hot atoms with simple molecules. Translationally hot H atoms are produced by ArF laser photolysis of HBr. Using CARS we have monitored, in a state-specific and time-resolved manner, rotational excitation of HBr (v = 0), vibrational excitation of HBr and H2, rovibrational excitation of H2 produced by the reaction H + HBr .-->. H2 + Br, and Br atom production by photolysis of HBr.

Book Cars Spectroscopy of Propellant Flames

Download or read book Cars Spectroscopy of Propellant Flames written by and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Broadband coherent anti-stokes Raman scattering (CARS) spectra were obtained from both the reaction zone and postflame regions of CH(4)/N(2)O flames. The temperature and concentration profiles obtained from both N(2) and N(2)O flames were used to understand the elementary processes occurring in CH(2) /N(2) flames. In addition, N(2) and CO vibrational spectra were used to obtain concentration and temperature profiles by a least-square fit to model calculations. The results obtained were in accord with thermochemical calculations. In rich CH(4)/N(2)O flame previously unobserved, CARS spectra were obtained from pure rotational H(2) transitions. These H(2) spectra offer further opportunities for studying propellant systems. The characterization of CARS spectroscopy obtained from these studies was used to obtain initial CARS measurements from the reaction zone of nitramine composite propellant flames. These studies are only possible using a coherent, highly spatially, and temporally resolved spectroscopy such as CARS. These qualities of CARS which have been applied to the deflagration of propellants containing the explosive ingredients nitrocellulose and/or RDX can be used to study the decomposition and explosive reactions of other energetic materials in both the gas and solid phases.

Book Simultaneous Temperature Measurements with Raman and CARS Coherent Antistokes Raman Scattering in Laminar Flames

Download or read book Simultaneous Temperature Measurements with Raman and CARS Coherent Antistokes Raman Scattering in Laminar Flames written by W. Stricker and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spatially resolved temperature measurements in laminar premixed flames were made using Coherent Antistokes Raman Scattering (CARS) and spontaneous Raman spectroscopy. In the case of narrowband (scanning) CARS, the experimental arrangement allows the performance of simultaneous temperature measurements with both techniques. For broadband (multiplex) CARS the measurements have to be made successively. Three different Raman linewidth models were used for CARS data evaluation. The results were compared with the independently recorded rotational Raman temperatures. Temperature differences up to 10% were observed, depending on the linewidth model used. For two, more complicated line-width models the CARS and Raman temperatures are in good agreement.
