Book excerpt: De manière globale, la politique instituée en vue de l'émergence à l'horizon 2035 est marquée par des incertitudes, ce qui se traduit par une perte de temps, accompagnée de l'érosion du taux de croissance. En dépit de cette situation peu favorable, le Cameroun affiche néanmoins des résultats positifs. Le taux de croissance situé autour de 4% pourrait être relevé dans les prochaines années, projetant ainsi le Cameroun vers l'émergence. Cependant, cette mouvance cache des problèmes éducatifs importants qui empêcheraient que l'éducation et la formation maintiennent la soutenabilité de la croissance. L'émergence du Cameroun ne peut se faire sans un système éducatif fort, dynamique et complémentaire d'actions promptes et efficaces. Aujourd'hui, ce système éducatif reste inadéquat, et en deçà du seuil acceptable pour renforcer la complémentarité aux différentes activités et accélérer la croissance d'ici 2035. Cet ouvrage présente l'évolution globale de la situation éducative du Cameroun: son histoire, son fonctionnement, ses orientations tangibles, ses problèmes et ses incertitudes à l'horizon 2035. Il est le fruit d'un travail élaboré par deux enseignants-géographes.

But based on results from the first two years of its implementation, the strategy is far from achieving that target. This report is meant to support Cameroon s efforts to build the skills of its workers. This report reaches conclusions and offers policy recommendations to answer six questions: What has been the trajectory of Cameroon s economic growth? Which sectors have contributed to growth? What jobs are being created? What types of skills are being used in the sectors where the highest percentages of the population are employed? What are the demand and supply barriers to skills? Which policies and institutions are in play? Are they sufficient? What needs to or could be reformed? Cameroon has good prospects for moving to middle-income status. It can create a more dynamic, responsive workforce. But a new strategy is required. It can be done.This report proposes new directions and provides recommendations. Outcomes are expected. Work has never been easy. But many have been working and Cameroon can work."
