Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-tech devices have incredible potential for enhancing the learning of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). In the world of computers, tablets, and smart phones, however, one device has received little attention: it is the calculator. Compared to newer devices, this instrument may seem nearly obsolete. However, mastery of the calculator has the potential to enrich a child's life both in school and in the community. For example, in school, use of the calculator can aid a child in solving the math word problems offered in the curriculum. With these skills, many of the children can go on to enter mainstream math classes. In the community, mastery of the calculator can enable a child to be proficient in important daily life skills such as shopping (e.g., keeping track of the price of purchases, selecting items to fi t available funds, and calculating the change expected from a cashier). Such skills play a key role in achieving independence in daily life. This program aims to teach children how to recognize, use, and understand the buttons on a calculator. It contains five levels. The first level teaches the child to handle single numbers. Each level becomes progressively more complex so that by Level 5, the children can work with three digit numbers as well as symbols on the calculator such as plus (+), minus (-), and equals (=). Upon completion of this program, the child is ready to move on to applying these new skills to math problems. This program may be implemented by a parent, teacher, therapist, or other adult.

Download or read book Mental Math written by Abhishek VR and published by Ofpad. This book was released on 2019-05-19 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover the Mental Math Secrets to Become a Human Calculator! Schools taught you a way to do math that works when you have a pen & paper. But the same methods, takes a lot of effort when you have to do math in your head. This is because it uses a lot of your working memory (the short term memory used to complete a mental task). For example, try to mentally multiply 73,201 x 3. It might take only a few seconds to multiply the individual digits. But if you multiply right to left the way you learnt in school, you will rely on your working memory. You will use it to recall every single digit you calculate to put it back together and get your final answer. You may even find yourself calculating some digits again because you forgot one of the numbers. The difficulty increases further when you have to multiply larger numbers like 732 x 323. You will have to remember numbers across many steps. Mental arithmetic would be a lot easier to do in your head if you didn’t have to remember so many numbers. In school, you learnt to write the down numbers as you calculate to free up your working memory. In mental math, there are many other ways to do the same thing. One of the tricks to free up your working memory is to calculate from left to right instead of right to left. Try multiplying 73,201 x 3 from left to right, starting from 7 x 3 and ending with 1 x 3. You will find yourself calling out the answer before you even finish the whole problem. You can use this trick to solve any math problem in the future. But we have just scratched the surface. There are many more tricks inside the book that make doing mental math as easy as reading a comic. Here is a glimpse of what you will be able to master: • Mentally add large numbers(Example: Add 8739 + 5492 in your head in seconds) • Subtract numbers fast. (Example: Mentally subtract 7520 - 4998 without writing anything down) • Multiplication tricks to multiply three-digit numbers. (Example: Multiply 323 x 123 in your head) • Square large numbers in seconds (Example: Calculate 64 x 64 faster than a calculator) • Mentally divide large numbers (Example: Divide 601324 by 73 entirely in your head) • Quickly check a calculation with 90% accuracy without re-calculating • Overcome math anxiety • Cement your mental math skills with bonus weekly training. This book only has the best techniques used by over 27 mental and Vedic math experts across the world. The techniques in this book are so simple you will wonder why nobody taught you this before. You will be able to master it, even if you have failed math in school. Imagine waking up tomorrow being able to do lightning fast math in your head. Your family & friends will look at you like you are some kind of a genius. Since you do the calculations in your head, you will acquire better mental habits in the process. Book Chess Calculation Training for Kids and Club Players

Download or read book Chess Calculation Training for Kids and Club Players written by Romain Edouard and published by Chess Calculation Training for. This book was released on 2020-02-20 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most tactics and training books are good for boosting your calculation ability, but they do not teach you how to calculate. This is the difference I want to make with my own books, by arranging the exercises in different categories so that the thinking process more closely resembles the one we have during a game. Level 1 of my new series consists of learning how to checkmate your opponent. The first three chapters are a rather classical tactics training, then things get harder. In Chapter 4, you have to trap your opponent's king; in Chapter 5, you have to win by eliminating the defender in your opponent's position; in Chapter 6, by using a decisive double threat and in Chapter 7, with an unexpected winning sacrifice. Chapter 8 consists of a few other problems which required short instructions. You should go through the book chapter by chapter. The complexity of the examples increases throughout the book, and you shouldn't skip a category if you consider it too easy. The book covers the full thinking process you should have when trying to mate your opponent, or when the situation of your opponent's king may tempt you to look further in a mating direction. As with all training, there is a warm-up, a tough phase, a break, a relaxing phase, then another tough phase, and respecting the pedagogical order of the book will make sure that you derive the maximum benefit from it, and are 100% ready for Level 2. After you have completed all 276exercises in the book you won't let your opponent's king escape when it shouldn't. Reading it should pay off quickly in terms of results! And this is exactly what I wish you.

Book A Practical Reader in Universal Design for Learning

Download or read book A Practical Reader in Universal Design for Learning written by David Howard Rose and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Universal Design for Learning (UDL) stands at the forefront of contemporary efforts to create universal access to educational curricula for all students, including those with disabilities. The "universal" in UDL does not mean there is a single optimal solution for everyone. Instead, it underscores the need for flexible approaches to teaching and learning that meet the needs of different kinds of learners. In this first UDL Reader, Anne Meyer and David H. Rose, cofounders of CAST, the educational nonprofit that developed the UDL framework, bring together a collection of articles on the practical, classroom dimensions of the UDL revolution in education. The authors offer insights on learner differences, the capacities of new media in the classroom, and effective teaching and assessment practices. The volume also includes lessons from teacher professional development workshops, classroom-based research, and UDL practitioners themselves. A highly readable volume aimed particularly at school teachers and administrators, this book is also an uncommonly accessible introduction to UDL for all readers committed to creating improved and universal access to educational materials for all students.
