Book Business and Society Issues and Cases in the Indian Context

Download or read book Business and Society Issues and Cases in the Indian Context written by Mathew Manimala and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2024 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many theories on why managers do not (as a behavior) or should not (as a value) supplement profit orientation with people-centrism and planet sensitivity. In practice, managers do not supplement profit orientation with considerations for people and the planet unless they have the tools and know how to make that possible. This book seeks to address that by focusing on the normative dimension of organizational development. There are two competing norms for developing an organization: first, as a profit-oriented business enterprise; and second, as a people-centric, planet-sensitive, profit-oriented business or social enterprise. The performance of a business is a concern for all stakeholders. With the growing realization of the importance of indirect stakeholders like the society and the planet, it is increasingly important to raise awareness about the social and environmental responsibilities of businesses and organizations. This book is a must-read for academics, researchers, practitioners and policymakers who are concerned about the triple bottom-line (Planet-People-Profit) performance of businesses, which is critical for their long-term sustainability. It covers topics pertaining to the relationship between business and society, including social entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility, among others, and draws from real-life case studies on social initiatives.

Book Corporate Social Responsibility in India

Download or read book Corporate Social Responsibility in India written by Bidyut Chakrabarty and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-03-29 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting an analysis of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in India, this book looks at the unique roots of the concept in India. It examines Gandhi’s philosophical moorings that inform India’s approach to CSR, and the role of civil society in setting an agenda for championing the rights of the stakeholders. The book goes on to focus on the role of the government in grooming the Indian business to be sensitive of its social concerns. Drawing on rich empirical data, the book shows that CSR in India cannot be conceptualized in ethnocentric terms. Arguing that it is not about ‘the typical Indianness’ of the articulation, it emphasizes the point that CSR in India needs to be conceptualized in a wider perspective by taking into account its philosophical roots with reference to the prevalent socio-economic and political context. The book is a valuable contribution to the literature on CSR, and is of interest to scholars of Asian Studies, business and development studies.

Download or read book Indian Business written by Nimruji Jammulamadaka and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book presents a critical understanding of Indian business situated as an encounter between indigeneity and Western modernity by exploring notions and practices of responsibility. It brings the paradoxical nature of Indian businesses to the fore: though they have a rich history of philanthropic contributions to social causes, they have also been known for labour rights and human rights violations, environmental abuses, destruction of habitats, pollution and corruption. The book shows how Indian firms straddle these two starkly contrasting positions and the many blends in between to conform to global developments in the pursuit of corporate social responsibility (CSR). It also looks at the emergent field of critical studies and analysis of CSR, especially from the context of a developing country. Part of the 'Contemporary Themes in Business and Management' series, this book will interest scholars of international business studies, management studies, economics, post-colonial management, organisational studies and corporate social responsibility, as well as businesses, corporates and practitioners."--Provided by publisher.

Book excerpt: It has been decades since many business schools outside India adopted the case study methodology for teaching almost all branches of management studies. This trend has been seen in India, too, where top management institutes have implemented the case study-based methodology as an important pedagogical tool in business education. The major issue in India, however, is a severe shortage of Indian case studies through which business schools can provide industry insights to students. This volume fills that gap. It has twenty Indian cases related to different aspects of business management. The cases cover some of the prominent disciplines of management like marketing, finance, human resource management, strategy management, operations management, accounting, and mergers and acquisitions.

Book Methodological Issues in Social Entrepreneurship Knowledge and Practice

Download or read book Methodological Issues in Social Entrepreneurship Knowledge and Practice written by Satyajit Majumdar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-13 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on ‘research on research methodologies’ – an area rarely addressed in social entrepreneurship. Methodological debates are integral to the quest for knowledge and to advancing theories and practices in any field, and, as a multi-disciplinary and emerging field, social entrepreneurship cannot avoid such debates. Providing a fresh perspective on social entrepreneurship research, the book includes contributions from diverse disciplinary settings, e.g. sociology, psychology, social work, anthropology, public policy, economics and management, and discusses the ‘methodological challenges’ of practice as well as social entrepreneurship research. Rather than favouring any particular method or methodological approach, it acknowledges the diversity of methodological approaches needed to reveal the nuances of social entrepreneurship and promote new knowledge and practices in this promising field.
