Download or read book Bucket Diagrams written by Herbert F. Janssen and published by Texas Tech University Press. This book was released on 1994 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The complexities of renal function can be a challenge for medical and allied health students to learn and for professors to teach. To make the teaching and learning process easier for both parties, Bucket Diagrams was developed as a study guide. Each section is prefaced with learning objectives and includes a detailed explanation of the concepts being covered. The examples provided in each section test the student's ability to achieve these objectives and to understand the concepts. The book is divided into the following sections: Basic Rules, General Concepts, Glomerular Capillary Filtration, Insulin Excretion, PAH Excretion, Glucose Excretion, Urine Concentrating Mechanisms, Body Fluids, Corrections Section, and Self-Test Questions and Answers. Bucket Diagrams were first developed as a teaching aid in a comparative animal physiology course. The name "bucket diagram" was supplied by an unknown student in medical physiology. Despite being unsophisticated, it is descriptive and unforgettable.

Book Machine Intelligence and Pattern Recognition

Download or read book Machine Intelligence and Pattern Recognition written by Godfried T. Toussaint and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Machine Intelligence and Pattern Recognition, Volume 2: Computational Geometry focuses on the operations, processes, methodologies, and approaches involved in computational geometry, including algorithms, polygons, convex hulls, and bucketing techniques. The selection first ponders on optimal parallel algorithms for selection, sorting, and computing convex hulls, simple on-line algorithms for convex polygons, and geometric algorithms that use the furthest-point Voronoi diagram. Discussions focus on algorithms that use the furthest-point Voronoi diagram, intersection of a convex polygon and a halfplane, point insertion, convex hulls and polygons and their representations, and parallel algorithm for selection and computing convex hulls. The text then examines optimal convex decompositions, expected time analysis of algorithms in computational geometry, and practical use of bucketing techniques in computational geometry. The book takes a look at minimum decompositions of polygonal objects, framework for computational morphology, display of visible edges of a set of convex polygons, and implementation study of two algorithms for the minimum spanning circle problem. Topics include rolling algorithm, shape of point sets, and decomposition of rectilinear and simple polygons and polygons with holes. The selection is a valuable source of data for researchers interested in computational geometry.

Book Reasoning with Probabilistic and Deterministic Graphical Models

Download or read book Reasoning with Probabilistic and Deterministic Graphical Models written by Rina Sreedharan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graphical models (e.g., Bayesian and constraint networks, influence diagrams, and Markov decision processes) have become a central paradigm for knowledge representation and reasoning in both artificial intelligence and computer science in general. These models are used to perform many reasoning tasks, such as scheduling, planning and learning, diagnosis and prediction, design, hardware and software verification, and bioinformatics. These problems can be stated as the formal tasks of constraint satisfaction and satisfiability, combinatorial optimization, and probabilistic inference. It is well known that the tasks are computationally hard, but research during the past three decades has yielded a variety of principles and techniques that significantly advanced the state of the art. This book provides comprehensive coverage of the primary exact algorithms for reasoning with such models. The main feature exploited by the algorithms is the model's graph. We present inference-based, message-passing schemes (e.g., variable-elimination) and search-based, conditioning schemes (e.g., cycle-cutset conditioning and AND/OR search). Each class possesses distinguished characteristics and in particular has different time vs. space behavior. We emphasize the dependence of both schemes on few graph parameters such as the treewidth, cycle-cutset, and (the pseudo-tree) height. The new edition includes the notion of influence diagrams, which focus on sequential decision making under uncertainty. We believe the principles outlined in the book would serve well in moving forward to approximation and anytime-based schemes. The target audience of this book is researchers and students in the artificial intelligence and machine learning area, and beyond.
