Book Chiral Dynamics Theory and Experiment

Download or read book Chiral Dynamics Theory and Experiment written by Aron M. Bernstein and published by Springer. This book was released on 1995-07-24 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chiral dynamics provides a rigorous and model-independent methodology for making QCD predictions at the confinement scale. This helps particularly in the testing of the standard model. The workshop reported here was focused on theoretical predictions and the measurements of physical processes, analyzing carefully the phenomenology needed to bridge the gap between the two. Besides the lectures, this volume also contains summaries of the working groups on Â-Â-scattering, ÂN-interaction, photo/electro-pion-production, and on chiral anomaly. This book is a thorough review of the state of the art and it addresses researchers as well as graduate students.

Book Chiral Dynamics in Few nucleon Systems

Download or read book Chiral Dynamics in Few nucleon Systems written by Evgeny Epelbaum and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chiral Effective Field Theory (EFT) has become a standard tool for analyzing the properties of hadronic systems at low energy in a systematic and controlled way based upon the approximate and spontaneously broken chiral symmetry of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). Based on Weinberg's idea to use chiral EFT to derive nuclear forces, this method has also been successfully applied to a few-nucleon problems. Energy-independent and hermitian nuclear potentials can be derived from the chiral Lagrangian e.g. using the method of unitary transformation. This scheme can also be applied to derive the corresponding nuclear current operator. They have used this framework to study the 2N system at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N3LO) in the chiral expansion. The theoretical uncertainty for scattering observables at N3LO is expected to be of the order (almost equal to) 0.5%, 7% and 25% at laboratory energy (almost equal to) 50, 150 and 250 MeV. The findings agree well with these estimations. Three- and more-nucleon systems have been considered so far up to next-to-next-to-leading order. For the first time, the complete chiral three-nucleon force has been included in few-body calculations, which starts to contribute at this order. N3LO analysis of> 2N systems is in progress. Recently they have worked out the leading and subleading isospin-violating 3N forces using the method of unitary transformation, which are largely driven by nucleon and pion mass differences. The work on isospin-breaking 2N forces is underway.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physics of strongly interacting many-body systems known as nuclear physics is a mature discipline which has achieved a remarkably quantitative success. It has explained with an impressive accuracy the properties of nuclei from the deuteron to heavy nuclei containing several hundreds of nucleons. This is the more remarkable when one realizes that in no way did the success depend on the existence of, or knowledge derived from, the fundamental theory of strong interactions now believed to be quantum chromodynamics (QCD).This monograph is a first, albeit embryonic, attempt to explain how a nucleus can be understood without invoking the explicit degrees of freedom of quarks and gluons while still staying within the basic premise of QCD and furthermore why do quark-gluon signatures not show up prominently in nuclear processes, including those processes involving short-distance encounters within nuclei. Such an understanding is largely based on the modern concepts of broken chiral symmetry and is believed to be essential in uncovering new physics expected to figure in the hadronic environment under extreme conditions of high temperature and/or high density.

Book Dynamical Symmetry Breaking In Quantum Field Theories

Download or read book Dynamical Symmetry Breaking In Quantum Field Theories written by Vladimir A Miransky and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-02-04 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phenomenon of dynamical symmetry breaking (DSB) in quantum field theory is discussed in a detailed and comprehensive way. The deep connection between this phenomenon in condensed matter physics and particle physics is emphasized. The realizations of DSB in such realistic theories as quantum chromodynamics and electroweak theory are considered. Issues intimately connected with DSB such as critical phenomenona and effective lagrangian approach are also discussed.

Book Recent Developments in Gauge Theories

Download or read book Recent Developments in Gauge Theories written by G. 't Hooft and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost all theories of fundamental interactions are nowadays based on the gauge concept. Starting with the historical example of quantum electrodynamics, we have been led to the successful unified gauge theory of weak and electromagnetic interactions, and finally to a non abelian gauge theory of strong interactions with the notion of permanently confined quarks. The. early theoretical work on gauge theories was devoted to proofs of renormalizability, investigation of short distance behaviour, the discovery of asymptotic freedom, etc . . , aspects which were accessible to tools extrapolated from renormalised perturbation theory. The second phase of the subject is concerned with the problem of quark confinement which necessitates a non-perturbative understanding of gauge theories. This phase has so far been marked by the introduc tion of ideas from geometry, topology and statistical mechanics in particular the theory of phase transitions. The 1979 Cargese Institute on "Recent Developments on Gauge Theories" was devoted to a thorough discussion of these non-perturbative, global aspects of non-abelian gauge theories. In the lectures and seminars reproduced in this volume the reader wilf find detailed reports on most of the important developments of recent times on non perturbative gauge fields by some of the leading experts and innovators in this field. Aside from lectures on gauge fields proper, there were lectures on gauge field concepts in condensed matter physics and lectures by mathematicians on global aspects of the calculus of variations, its relation to geometry and topology, and related topics.

Download or read book Chiral Quark Dynamics written by Reinhard Alkofer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-04 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes give an introduction to the description of hadrons, i.e., mesons and baryons, within a quark model based on a chirally invariant quantum field theory. Emphasis is put on a didactic approach intended for graduate students with some background on functional integral techniques. Starting from QCD a motivation of a specific form of the effective quark interaction is given. Functional integral bosonization leads to a theory describing successfully meson properties. It possesses solitonic solutions which are identified as baryons. Via functional integral techniques a Faddeev equation for baryons describing them as bound states of a diquark and a quark is derived. Finally, a unification of these two complementary pictures of baryons is proposed.
