Before the days of the 711 Ranch, related history included fascinating triumphs and tragedies experienced by heroes of the Texas Revolution in the 1830s, and by German and other settlers starting in 1855. After the turn of the 20th century, several ranchers ran cattle and sheep on the lands. The Nordans aggregated many area land parcels into the 711 Ranch, where they received acclamation for their conservation of land, grasses and water resources as well as for champion Santa Gertrudis cattle and Columbia sheep. The lands of this 711 Ranch are now largely the lands of the Mystic Shores subdivision on Canyon Lake in northern Comal County. Events similar to what happened at the 711 Ranch happened all over Texas, as land rights were granted and land was claimed, settled and developed.
