Download or read book The Orchid Flora of Taiwan A Collection of Line Drawings written by Tsan-Piao Lin and published by 國立臺灣大學出版中心. This book was released on 2019-12-01 with total page 1032 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of written records of native orchids in Taiwan began in 1857 with a British botanist. After more than 160 years of study by European, Japanese, and Taiwanese scholars and enthusiasts, the list of native orchids increased to more than 470 species, including natural hybrids and varieties. The author exerted extensive e orts to include all known species in this work and arranged them based on the order of subfamilies. Scientific names, synonyms, and relevant references are provided for each species. Many of the species are provided with additional explanations in the “note” section. The uniqueness of this book is the line drawing illustrations which emphasize the structure of the column. In total, 500 figures are presented to accompany the species descriptions. These extensive line drawings were accumulated since 1971 and were mostly drawn by the author. More than that, this book also presents the gynostemium structure of more than 380 species, including the stigma, pollinium, rostellum, and column, in high-resolution color plates.
Download or read book Frontiers in the Study of Ancient Plant Remains written by and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-11-16 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last two decades, plant biology has developed rapidly, ranging from molecular genetics, cell biology, and physiology to ecology and evolutionary issues, both for economic species and species unrelated to humans. These topics have received intensive attention, however, there is still a large gap in the study of plant biology in prehistoric times, especially those closely related to humans. The identification of plant species in archaeological sites plays an important role in exploring the paleoenvironment, the origin and spread of agriculture, and the relationship between humans and nature. In this research topic, we welcome progress in all aspects of ancient plant fossil research, especially phytoliths, starches, pollen and carbonized seeds, from the mechanisms of plant fossil formation to their phytosystematics, and the associated paleoecology and paleoenvironment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical Plant Studies in Taiwan presents a historical overview of vegetal ecocriticism in Taiwan. Divided into 12 chapters, it examines the human-plant entanglements on the island. Covering a wide spectrum of topics, such as the imperial plant explorations, the military casuarina afforestation, the mangrove conservation movement, the ecofeminist rooftop garden, the Indigenous millet restoration, the underground mycorrhizal network in urban Taipei, etc., it discloses the phyto-politics in the historical context of the vegetal materialist condition of the island. Intersecting the poetics and politics of plant narratives, it presents the multispecies plantscapes of the island. The first of its kind, the collection launches the historical and localized critical plant studies in Taiwan.

Download or read book Medicinal Plants Recent Advances in Research and Development written by Hsin-Sheng Tsay and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-25 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since ancient times, plants have been used as a prime natural source of alternative medicines and have played an important role in our lives. The old tradition of medicinal plant application has turned into a highly profitable business in the global market, resulting in the release of a large number of herbal products. People have tried to find different sources of medicines to alleviate pain and cure different illnesses. Due to severe constraints of synthetic drugs and the increasing contraindications of their usage, there is a growing interest world over in the usage of natural products based on medicinal herbs, hence, there is an ever expanding market of herbs and herbal based medicinal preparations all over the world. This has culminated into an exponential increase in number of research groups in different geographical locations and generation of volume of research data in the field in a short span of time. The path breaking advancement in research methods and interdisciplinary approaches is giving birth to newer perspectives. Therefore, it becomes imperative to keep pace with the advancement in research and development in the field of medicinal herbs. There are a large number of researchers in different parts of the world working on various aspects of medicinal plants and ‘herbal medicines’. The idea is to bring their recent research work into light in the form of a book. The proposed book contains chapters by the eminent researchers in different countries and working with different disciplines of medicinal plants. Articles pertain to different disciplines such as: 1. Resources and conservation of medicinal plants 2. Biosynthesis and metabolic engineering of medicinal plants 3. Tissue culture, propagation and bioreactor technology of medicinal plants 4. Phytochemical research on medicinal plants 5. Herbal medicines and plant-derived agents in cancer prevention and therapy 6. Herbal medicines and plant-derived agents in metabolic syndrome management 7. Herbal medicines and plant-derived agents in modulation of immune-related disorders 8. Herbal medicines and hepatotoxicity The book will prove itself an asset for the researchers, professionals and also students in the area of medicinal plants and mechanism of their action.
