This book was released on 2010-09-01 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This, the 30th edition of the "United States Government Printing Office Style Manual," is the first revision to this authoritative style manual since 2002. The "GPO Style Manual, as it is popularly known, is issued under the authority of section 1105 of Title 44 U.S.C., which requires the Public Printer, as head of the GPO to "dtermine the form and style in which the printing...ordered by a department is executed...having proper reagrd to economy, workmanship, and the purposes for which the work is needed." The Manual is prepared by the GPO Style Board, composed of proofreading, printing, and Government documents specialists from within GPO, where all congressional publications, and many other key Federal Government documents are prepared. The first "GPO Style Manual" appeared in 1894. It was developed orginally as a printer's stylebook to standardize word and type treatment and remains so today. Through successived editions, however, the "GPO Style Manual" has come to be widely recognized by writers and editors both within and outside the Federal Government as one of the most useful resources in the editorial arsenal. This new, revised version of the "GPO Style Manual" has been thoroughly redesigned to make it more modern and easier to read, and the content has been updated generally throughout in keeping with current usage.

Book The Illusion of the Prolongation of Youth

Download or read book The Illusion of the Prolongation of Youth written by Mary Aurélie and published by . This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Illusion of the Prolongation of Youth Is it true that 'youth' as a life stage is increasingly being prolonged, as is often claimed? Are young people increasingly delaying their entry into adulthood? Advanced societies have recently undergone deep transformations, which in turn have affected young people's pathways of transition. However, the widespread assumption that youth is being extended may well be inaccurate. Indeed, the concept of adulthood itself needs reconsideration. In this comparative study, young Finnish and French female university students offer their perspectives on their own processes of transition. They evaluate their passage from university to working life, the dilemmas they face in attaining independence, their ambivalence about starting a family, and their perspectives both on becoming an adult and on the meaning of adulthood. This book provides up-to-date knowledge for readers seeking to understand what it takes to come of age today, and what it means to be an adult in the early 21st century.

Jashemski sets out to examine the role of ancient Roman gardens in daily life throughout the empire. This study, therefore, includes for the first time, archaeological, literary, and artistic evidence about ancient Roman gardens across the entire Roman Empire from Britain to Arabia. Through well-illustrated essays by leading scholars in the field, various types of gardens are examined, from how Romans actually created their gardens to the experience of gardens as revealed in literature and art. Demonstrating the central role and value of gardens in Roman civilization, Jashemski and a distinguished, international team of contributors have created a landmark reference work that will serve as the foundation for future scholarship on this topic. Book excerpt: In elegant, sensual prose, Michael Crummey crafts a haunting tale set in Newfoundland at the turn of the 19th century. A richly imagined story about love, loss and the heartbreaking compromises—both personal and political—that undermine lives, River Thieves is a masterful debut novel. Published in Canada and the United States, it joins a wave of classic literature from eastern Canada, including the works of Alistair MacLeod, Wayne Johnston and David Adams Richards, while resonating at times with the spirit of Charles Frazier’s Cold Mountain and Cormac McCarthy’s Border Trilogy. An enthralling story of passion and suspense, River Thieves captures both the vast sweep of history and the intimate lives of a deeply emotional and complex cast of characters caught in its wake.
