Book Bioanalysis and Biosensors for Bioprocess Monitoring

Download or read book Bioanalysis and Biosensors for Bioprocess Monitoring written by Bernhard Sonnleitner and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-01-15 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contributions to this special volume were selected in order to show present trends in the field of bioprocess monitoring and estimation. Established conventional methods are critically discussed and non-conventional ones introduced. Two papers focus on more fuzzy approaches such as electronic noses or advanced chemometric techniques. One contribution illustrates the high potential with the example of cephalosporin production. Three contributions dare to "look" inside the cells, one by the analysis of (microscopic) images, one by trying to estimate the so-called physiological state, and the third by analyzing the metabolic network. This shows how sophisticated (bio)chemical as well as mathematical analytical tools result in better understanding of living systems and bioprocesses.

Book Advanced Materials and Techniques for Biosensors and Bioanalytical Applications

Download or read book Advanced Materials and Techniques for Biosensors and Bioanalytical Applications written by Pranab Goswami and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-01 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioanalytical science and its technological subdomain, biosensors, are ever-evolving subjects, striving for rapid improvement in terms of performance and expanding the target range to meet the vast societal and market demands. The key performance factors for a biosensor that drive the research are selectivity, sensitivity, response time, accuracy, and reproducibility, with additional requirements of its portability and inexpensive nature. These performance factors are largely governed by the materials and techniques being used in these bioanalytical platforms. The selection of materials to meet these requirements is critical, as their interaction or involvement with the biological recognition elements should initiate or improve these performance factors. The technique discussed primarily applies to transducers involved in converting a biochemical signal to optical or electrical signals. Over the years, the emergence of novel materials and techniques has drastically improved the performance of these bioanalytical systems, enabling them to expand their analytical horizon. These advanced materials and techniques are central to modern bioanalytical and biosensor research. Advanced Materials and Techniques for Biosensors and Bioanalytical Applications provides a comprehensive review of the subject, including a knowledge platform for both academics and researchers. Considering biosensors as a central theme to this book, an outline on this subject with background principles has been included, with a scope of extending the utility of the book to coursework in graduate and postgraduate schools. Features: • Basic principles on different classes of biosensors, recent advances and applications • Smart materials for biosensors and other rapid, portable detection devices • Metal nanoparticles and nanocrystals for analytical applications • Carbon-based nanoparticles and quantum dots for sensing applications • Nanozymes as potential catalysts for sensing applications • Bioelectrochemiluminescence and photoelectrochemical-based biosensors • Paper electronics and paper-based biosensors • Microbial biosensors: artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, and synthetic biology • Biofuel cells as a signal transduction platform • FET-based biosensors, including ISFET and BioFET This book serves as a reference for scientific investigators and a textbook for a graduate-level course in biosensors and advanced bioanalytical techniques.

Download or read book Biosensors for the Environmental Monitoring of Aquatic Systems written by Damià Barceló and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-05-13 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: sector. This ensured eventual transfer of the technology demonstrated at the wo- shops and Technical Meetings to marketable devices. BIOSET provided assistance for researchers from European laboratories to meet to exchange ideas, use equ- ment, and establish a basis for new joint projects. The secretariat of the Concerted Action BIOSET supported the Technical Meetings. There were three Technical Meetings held, two in Berlin in 1997 and 1998, and the third in Barcelona, in April 2000. The goal of these technical meetings was to join different research and industrial teams to evaluate the performance of their biosensor technology in field conditions with common and standardized surface and waste waters. As a result of these field experiments, the additional information that biosensors can offer to environmental monitoring was also evaluated. Thus, these three Technical Meetings were useful accompanying measures and practical additions to the currently organized yearly workshops. The concerted action BIOSET was f- lowed by the SENSPOL network. The 1st SENSPOL Workshop was held on the 9–11 May 2001 on Sensing Technologies for Contaminated Sites and Groundwater at the University of Alcala. There was one special Workshop on “Genotoxicity Biosensing (TECHNOTOX)” supported by the European Commission DG XII D-1 and BIOSET in the year 2000. The TECHNOTOX meeting at the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO) in Mol was organized by Phillippe Corbisier (VITO), Peter-D. Hansen (TU Berlin) and Damia Barcelo (CSIC Barcelona).

Book Biosensors

    Book Details:
  • Author : Rajmohan Joshi
  • Publisher : Gyan Publishing House
  • Release : 2006
  • ISBN : 9788182053755
  • Pages : 324 pages

Download or read book Biosensors written by Rajmohan Joshi and published by Gyan Publishing House. This book was released on 2006 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A biosensor is a device for the detection of an analyte that combines a biological component with a physiochemical detector component. A typical biosensor consists of three parts: a sensitive biological element, a transducer in between and a detector element. The most widespread example of a commercial biosensor is the blood glucose biosensor, which uses an enzyme to break blood glucose down. In so doing it transfers an electron to an electrode and this is converted into a measure of blood glucose concentration. The high market demand for such sensors has fuelled development of associated sensor technologies. This book covers recent developments that combine the fields of biotechnology and electrical engineering with applications in the detection of very low levels of chemicals and biological agents in the body. It provides an authentic overview of a wide range of biosensing systems, discussing the elements of different transducers used in sensors and the selective elements that are employed. The style is relatively non-mathematical and informal in approach. The contents of the book will be ideal for graduate and postgraduate students of biotechnology, analytical and physical chemistry. It will also be invaluable to all those concerned with the environmental and biomedical applications of such biosensing systems.
