Book Earl May s 1931 Spring Catalog Classic Reprint

Download or read book Earl May s 1931 Spring Catalog Classic Reprint written by Earl E. May Seed and Nursery Company and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-10-12 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Earl May's 1931 Spring Catalog T hardly seems possible that another year has rolled around, yet it has. As I writ this my mind goes back to my first year seed business. In those days, before the radio, I knew very few of my friends. When I started broadcasting e v e r y o n e started to have a lot of fun along with busi ness. All you folks know how a little good fun along with each day's hard work helps out. From the start kma gave you good entertainment, helpful news, and bargains in nursery stock, seeds, and merchandise. I don't know of anything that ever gave me a bigger thrill than talk ing to you folks over the radio the first time, unless it was the time I won the Radio Digest gold cup. I'll bet a lot of you readers remember the little studio room we rigged up in the corner of the seed building. Only a few folks could crowd into the next room to hear the program, and there was no big plate glass window to see through. Yet folks came and came, and how they crowded in! Our pro grams were popular. Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves. After my friends started coming to the studio my business grew very rapidly. They found that I was a plain, hard working, ordinary fellow the same as anyone else, and looked like I talked. It was just like in my early days when I rode on horseback through the hills of Kentucky selling seeds, I made friends quickly whenever I got to talk with people. A lot of you folks remember the big jubilee we had here at our first radio anniversary. Lots of you were here and saw the thousands and thousands of people who visited us and ate pancakes with us. That sure was a party I'll never forget. Now we have a grand big Jubilee every fall. How fast the time flies! It seems just yesterday that we were a small family. Now we have an immense organization. The old seed house wasn't big enough so we've just been building on and on for more room. In place of the broad casting room in the seed house we have the big Mayfair studio and theater building. Now there is the new restaurant building, the chick hatchery and the furniture store, all added last year. To look at my fine park and display grounds west of the studio you'd hardly believe the same space was once a big ash heap. Folks tell me they have to come here at least once a year to keep track of what we are dcmg. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A hardboiled novel about life in the American underground, from the pool halls of Portland to the cells of San Quentin. Simply one of the finest books ever written about being down on your luck. Don Carpenter’s Hard Rain Falling is a tough-as-nails account of being down and out, but never down for good—a Dostoyevskian tale of crime, punishment, and the pursuit of an ever-elusive redemption. The novel follows the adventures of Jack Levitt, an orphaned teenager living off his wits in the fleabag hotels and seedy pool halls of Portland, Oregon. Jack befriends Billy Lancing, a young black runaway and pool hustler extraordinaire. A heist gone wrong gets Jack sent to reform school, from which he emerges embittered by abuse and solitary confinement. In the meantime Billy has joined the middle class—married, fathered a son, acquired a business and a mistress. But neither Jack nor Billy can escape their troubled pasts, and they will meet again in San Quentin before their strange double drama comes to a violent and revelatory end.

They are so in love that if they don’t get married, something improper is bound to happen. But her company has a strict new policy: Any woman who marries will be immediately fired. First published in 1931—the same year the Empire State Building opened its doors—Skyscraper marks the advent of a new kind of romance plot, and Lynn a new kind of heroine. Lynn is facing choices that will determine the course of the rest of her life, but rather than just choose between suitors, Lynn and other working girls like her must decide whether to abandon their careers—or abandon their men. They can’t have both—or can they? Femmes Fatales restores to print the best of women’s writing in the classic pulp genres of the mid-20th century. From mystery to hard-boiled noir to taboo lesbian romance, these rediscovered queens of pulp offer subversive perspectives on a turbulent era.
