Book Bactericides Fungicides and Algicides

Download or read book Bactericides Fungicides and Algicides written by Janet H. Woodward and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MANY BACTERIA, FUNGI, AND ALGAE CAN CAUSE problems in the paint and coatings industry. These problems arise during manufacturing, in-can, and post application. To minimize or prevent the growth of these microorganisms, the appropriate microbicide (algicide, bactericide, and fungicide) must be effectively applied. Generally, the microbicides are divided into two general categories: Those used for in-can preservation and those used for dry-film preservation. Knowing the groups of organisms against which a microbicide will target is very important in selecting the best chemical to use. The organisms involved are discussed in more detail elsewhere in this manual.

Book Chapter 29 Bactericides Fungicides and Algicides

Download or read book Chapter 29 Bactericides Fungicides and Algicides written by VM. King and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE VARIED METABOLIC CAPABILITIES of microorganisms enable them to cause many problems in paints and coatings, from manufacture through storage and application. These problems can usually be controlled with the effective use of microbicides (bactericides, fungicides, and algicides). The organisms involved are also discussed elsewhere in this manual. Knowing the type of organisms against which a microbicide is to provide protection is very important in selecting the best types of chemicals to use.

Book excerpt: The 2000 Ashgate Handbook of Pesticides and Agricultural Chemicals is here extensively revised. It focuses on the primary chemical substances that make up pesticide formulations used today mainly in agricultural and public health environments, as well as those no longer in use. Commonly applied bactericides and some recently developed pesticides have been added, and their current status with US Environmental Protection Agency identified. The 1,844 unique chemical entities are presented in 17 functional categories such as acaricides, animal repellants, fungicides, herbicides, mulluscicides, plant growth regulators, safeners, and miscellaneous chemicals. A directory of manufacturers and suppliers is appended. CAS Registry and EINECS numbers, and names and synonyms are indexed. Annotation : 2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com).

Book Microbicides for the Protection of Materials

Download or read book Microbicides for the Protection of Materials written by W. Paulus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993-09-30 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is chiefly intended for those who are using microbicides for the protection of materials. Another purpose is to inform teachers and students working on biodeterioration and to show today's technical standard to those engaged in R&D activities in the microbicide field. When trying to classify, or to subclassify, material-protecting microbicides according to their mode of action, e.g. as membrane-active and electrophilic active ingredients, it turned out that a clear assignment was not always possible. For that reason the author has resorted to chemistry's principle of classifying according to groups of substances (e.g. alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, acids, esters, amides, etc.), thus providing the first necessary information about the micro bicides' properties. The description of the various groups of substances includes, whenever possible, an outline of the mode and mechanism of action of the active ingredients involved. The effective use of microbicides presupposes knowledge of their character istics. That is why the microbicides' chemico-physical properties, their toxicity, ecotoxicity, effectiveness, and effective spectrum are described in greater detail. As mentioned before, the characteristics of microbicides play an important role. They have to be suited to the intended application to avoid detrimental effects on the properties and the quality of the material to be protected; also production processes in which microbicides are used to avoid disturbances by microbial action must not be disturbed by the presence of those microbicides.

Book Controlled Release Pesticides Formulations

Download or read book Controlled Release Pesticides Formulations written by Nathan F. Cardarelli and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-17 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main goal of this book is to present a summary of the state of the art historical background. Conventional chemical pest control methods are mentioned only as a means of comparison to controlled release. Research endeavour with biological weapons, potential usage of such controls, and the few instances of success are likewise brought into focus with the same motive. Formulations and methods or preparing controlled release pesticides are discussed in some detail as concerns the antifouling and molluscicide areas, where the compounding methodology has been well developed. The mathematical basis of controlled release has been developed to an extent and is presented in an abbreviated form.

Book Additives for Coatings

    Book Details:
  • Author : Johan Bieleman
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 2008-09-26
  • ISBN : 3527613315
  • Pages : 390 pages

Download or read book Additives for Coatings written by Johan Bieleman and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-09-26 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No doubt: A perfect coating has to look brilliant! But other properties of coatings are also most important. Coatings have to be durable, tough and easily applicable. Additives are the key to success in achieving these characteristics, even though the amounts used in coating formulations are small. It is not trivial at all to select the best additives. In practice, many series of tests are often necessary, and the results do not explain, why a certain additive improves the quality of a coating and another one impairs the coating. This book is dedicated to developers and applicants of coatings working in research or production, and it is aimed at providing a manual for their daily work. It will answer the following questions: How do the most important groups of additives act? Which effects can be be achieved by their addition? Scientific theories are linked to practical applications. Emphasis is put on the optical aspects that are most important for the applications in practice. This book is a milestone in quality assurance in the complete field of coatings!
