Book The Macroeconomic Effects of Environmental Taxes

Download or read book The Macroeconomic Effects of Environmental Taxes written by Ms.Jenny Elisabeth Ligthart and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1998-05-01 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reviews recent literature on the macroeconomic effects of environmental taxes. It attempts to delineate the conditions under which a cleaner environment is compatible with attaining macroeconomic objectives, such as more employment and economic growth. The analysis reveals that an environmentally motivated fiscal reform—using the revenues from environmental taxes to cut labor taxes—may yield employment and environmental dividends if the tax burden can be shifted to agents outside the labor market, such as capitalists, transfer recipients, and foreigners. A cleaner environment and a higher rate of economic growth go hand in hand if the environment is considered an important public input into production.

Book Environmental Health Risk

Download or read book Environmental Health Risk written by C. A. Brebbia and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2001-09-07 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Good health depends on many factors including high quality air, water, soil and food. As environmental problems increase, related health issues are also becoming a source of major worldwide concern. It is therefore essential to establish effective measures to eliminate or considerably reduce hazardous factors from the environment, measures highly dependent on the application of suitable experimental, modelling and interpretive techniques to achieve a balanced assessment of the risks involved. Covering the latest developments in this field, this book features edited versions of papers presented at the First International Conference on the Impact of Environmental Factors on Health (Environmental Health Risk 2001). The volume provides an easily accessible source of information on the interrelation between environmental risk and health which is often complex and can involve a variety of social, occupational and lifestyle factors. It also emphasizes the need to adopt an interdisciplinary approach in order to effectively recognize and avoid such problems. The contributions are divided under the following headings: Air Pollution; Water Supply and Quality; Waste Water and Surface Water Problems; Radiation and Noise; Microbial Risk; Population Health; and Solid Waste.

Book Models of Economic Growth with Environmental Assets

Download or read book Models of Economic Growth with Environmental Assets written by A. Beltratti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The connection between economic growth and the quality of the environment is a popular subject. Since the second half of the 1980s, there has been an increasingly frequent use of the term "sustainable development", to refer to the preoccupation that the production of goods and services may decrease standards of living. It is natural to analyze this question from the point of view of economic models, which may be helpful in at least identifying the main factors behind such preoccupations and perhaps in suggesting policy measures. Indeed, models are useful to discuss some relevant factors, like the structure of production of the economy, the type of preferences and goals pursued by agents, and the elements of uncertainty. This monograph will consider some of these themes: there will be a study of the analytical framework which can be used for the purpose of defining and analyzing sustainability, and some discussion of how to calibrate a restricted version of the model to empirical data. There will be also some analysis about which type of uncertainty should be incorporated into the model, and which objective functions may be useful for policy purposes. Also, there will be discussions about the key variables which should be included, and some description of a general framework.
