Download or read book The China Australia Free Trade Agreement written by Colin Picker and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-12-14 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides readers with a unique opportunity to learn about one of the new regional trade agreements (RTAs), the China–Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA), that has been operational since December 2015 and is now at the forefront of the field. This new agreement reflects many of the modern and up-to-date approaches within the international economic legal order that must now exist within a very different environment than that of the late eighties and early nineties, when the World Trade Organization (WTO) was created. The book, therefore, explores many new features that were not present when the WTO or early RTAs were negotiated. It provides insights and lessons about new and important trade issues for the twenty-first century, such as the latest approaches to the regulation of investment, twenty-first century services and the emerging digital/knowledge economy. In addition, this book provides new understandings of the latest RTA approaches of China and Australia. The book's contributors, all foremost experts on their subject matter within this field, explore the inclusion of many traditional trade and investment agreement features in the ChAFTA, showing their continuing relevance in modern contexts.

Book The Australia European Union Free Trade Agreement

Download or read book The Australia European Union Free Trade Agreement written by Marc Bungenberg and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-02-26 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers a selection of peer-reviewed chapters reflecting on the Australia-European Union Free Trade Agreement (AEUFTA). Since 18 June 2018, ten rounds of negotiations for a AEUFTA have been held in a constructive atmosphere, showing a shared commitment to move forward with this ambitious and comprehensive agreement. After a lengthy and arduous process interrupted by the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union (EU), the United States’ hesitations regarding the EU’s global strategy and the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the negotiations between Australia and the European Union finally appear to be nearing completion. In challenging times, both parties share a commitment to a positive trade agenda, and to the idea that good trade agreements benefit both sides by boosting jobs, growth and investment. This book explores the challenges, achievements and missed opportunities in the AEUFTA negotiation process, and examines current legal and political relations between the EU, its Member States and Australia. Furthermore, it examines in detail a wide and diverse range of negotiated areas, including digital trade, services, intellectual property rules, trade remedies and investment screening, as well as dispute settlement mechanisms. Lastly, it sheds light on the likely nature of future commercial relations between Australia and the EU. Written by a team of respected authors from leading institutions in both Australia and Europe, the book provides a valuable, interdisciplinary analysis of the AEUFTA.

Book How Diplomatic Lobbying Affected the US Australia Free Trade Agreement Negotiations

This book was released on 2022-06-08 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2018 in the subject Economics - International Economic Relations, grade: A, , course: International Relations, language: English, abstract: The first of January 2005 marked a new beginning for the country of the USA and Australia in their quest towards prosperity, economic integration, and a strong partnership. As heralded by the Australian government of the time, “once in a lifetime deal” that tied them to the world’s biggest economy and the most powerful country. Thus, it came into force the Australia-US Free Trade Agreement (AUSFTA) as a bilateral trading partnership between the two countries. The Trade Agreement that was proposed by the USA to Australia as long back as in 1945, but not until the strong tie between George W Bush and John Howard, that the proposal finally started moulding into shape. With President Bush giving a green signal for the Free Trade Agreement to be taken forward in 2001, the Centre for International Economics (CIE) was deputed by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in 2004 to make an analysis of the Economic Impact of the AUSFTA on the Australian Trade Front. CIE concluded in the prospects of large economic gains of the country. Thus the two governments celebrated the initiation of a ‘win-win’ trade agreement which would go beyond economic impacts and would result in a strong partnership between the two countries in the next round of WTO DOHA multilateral trade negotiations and result in a successful relationship with their counterparts in the Asia Pacific region.

Book China Australia Free Trade Agreement

Download or read book China Australia Free Trade Agreement written by Jefferson Ha and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The China-Australia Free Trade Agreement ('ChAFTA') negotiations begun under the Howard Government in November 2005, and was not concluded until almost a decade later. The ChAFTA creates encouraging prospects for both countries, regarded as a “landmark deal” that will safeguard Australia's economy in the years to come. Despite that, high yield investments generally attach with it significant risks. The complexity of China's legal system and often intertwining link between culture and business carries such risks, particularly in relation to cross-border commercial activities. Against the backdrop of the ChAFTA's aim in fostering closer economic integration, the need for further in-depth engagement at all levels between both countries is crucial. The correlation between cultural eloquence and business success have never been more relevant. The success of businesses unlocking opportunities within Chinese markets will also be directly proportionate to the degree of insights on China. It is argued that extensive gaps between China and Australia's mutual understanding will prove to be a major source of contractual disputes. Specific provisions of the ChAFTA's master agreement are not expected to be finalised for another 12 months, at the very least. Anecdotes of prior commercial trading with China since its accession into the World Trade Organisation (WTO) have also been negative in general, where many disputes concern circumstances of contractual breaches. By undertaking a generic examination of the Chinese legal system along with recent reforms unveiled in China, a comparative of contract laws between China and Australia will be assessed within the ChAFTA context. Alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in China will also be examined, where recommendations of best practice guidelines in utilising the ChAFTA will be proposed. Finally, further practical recommendations deemed necessary in enhancing future Sino-Australian relations will be considered.

Book excerpt: "This paper discusses the recent regional trade agreements that China has concluded rapidly following accession to the WTO in 2002. Agreements are in place with Hong Kong, Macao, ASEAN, Australia, and New Zealand, and are either in negotiation or under discussion with South Africa, Chile, India, and the Gulf Cooperation Council. These agreements differ sharply in form and substance, and involve process commitments to ongoing negotiation and cooperation on a wide range of issues. Differences relating to the regional agreements negotiated by the EU and the US are emphasized, as are later potential difficulties these agreements create in moving to an Asian trade bloc centred on them"--National Bureau of Economic Research web site.

Book Bilateral Trade Agreements in the Asia Pacific

Download or read book Bilateral Trade Agreements in the Asia Pacific written by Vinod Aggarwal and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Asia-Pacific region has witnessed a rapid rise in bilateral preferential trade agreements at the beginning of the twenty-first century. This trend could have potentially dramatic effects on the trading patterns of countries in the transpacific region and beyond. Some argue that these accords will spur multilateral negotiations, while others believe that they will irreparably damage the trading system. Bilateral Trade Agreements in the Asia-Pacific examines the underlying political and economic factors driving these accords, based on a novel theoretical framework. Experts then provide overviews of political and economic trends in the region as well as detailed analysis of the trade strategies of Japan, China, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States and Mexico. By systematically evaluating and assessing the driving forces underlying the turn to bilateral trade agreements in the Asia-Pacific, this book provides the first comprehensive analysis of this crucial phenomenon. Growing numbers of countries both in the region and elsewhere in the world are now considering further negotiation of bilateral trade accords. Understanding how these arrangements will fit or conflict with existing institutions in the Asia-Pacific and the WTO makes this book imperative reading for policy-makers and scholars.

Book Bilateral and Regional Trade Agreements

Download or read book Bilateral and Regional Trade Agreements written by Simon Nicholas Lester and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the world trading system and international trade agreements is characterised by shifts between bilateralism, regionalism and multilateralism. Bilateralism has recently returned, having gained momentum following the failed WTO negotiations at the 1999 Seattle Ministerial Conference. The result is that today's international trade rules are now a complex web of instruments and agreements. This volume contains case studies of selected bilateral and regional free trade agreements (FTAs), covering a wide range of countries, regions and key issues such as intellectual property and agriculture. Authored by leading scholars, practitioners and governmental officials, each case study provides a comprehensive review of the negotiating history and result of the selected agreement. Each study can serve as an in-depth examination of a particular FTA, and the group of case studies can be used to compare and contrast the coverage of different FTAs or to examine the FTAs signed by a particular country.

Book No Ordinary Deal

Download or read book No Ordinary Deal written by Jane Kelsey and published by Bridget Williams Books. This book was released on 2010 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Trans-Pacific Partnership is no ordinary free trade deal. Billed as an agreement fit for the twenty-first century, no one is sure what that means. For its champions, the TPP is a magic bullet - opening closed doors for Fonterra into the US dairy market. But this free trade agreement is not primarily about imports and exports. Its obligations will intrude into core areas of government policy and parliamentary responsibilities. If the US lobby has its way, the rules will restrict how drug-buying agencies Pharmac (in New Zealand) and the Pharmaceutical Benefi ts Scheme (in Australia) can operate, and the kind of food standards and intellectual property laws we can have. The TPP would govern how we regulate the finance industry or other services, along with our capacity to create jobs at home. And the agreement would lock our countries even deeper into a neoliberal model of global free markets - when even political leaders admit that this has failed.
