Clinical Neuropathology is written for practicing neurologists and pathologists, as well as residents and fellows preparing for the neurology and pathology boards. It provides information on the structural alterations of nervous system diseases along with their clinical manifestations. The first two chapters cover the process and goals of the neuropathologic exam and histological reactions particular to the nervous system. Subsequent chapters review major disease categories, with each section containing an overview of pathologic and clinical characteristics in general, a description of the gross and histologic features along with their clinical features, and data on pathogenetic mechanisms. Filled with tables to clarify major points, case histories to provide clinical correlates, and Board-type chapter review questions with answers and explanations, this text will be a valuable addition to all individual and reference libraries. Key Benefits: Almost 600 full color illustrations. Case histories, keyed to images, provide clinical correlation with pathology. Over 90 tables summarizing key points: useful for quick reference and exam preparation. End-of-chapter Board-type questions, with answers and explanations, for self-assessment and exam preparation.

Book Atlas of Gross Neurosurgical Pathology

Download or read book Atlas of Gross Neurosurgical Pathology written by K.J. Zülch and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-04-13 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Atlas is one of a series devoted to neurosurgical and neuro logical conditions and is complementary to Atlas of the Histology of Brain Tumors (Springer-Verlag, Berlin-Heidelberg-New York 1971), which was the first in the atlas series. The Atlas is based on the Handbuch der Neurochirurgie, Vols. I and III (Springer 1956, 1959) but, whereas this is a comprehensive reference work, the present book is intended to give the practicing neurosurgeon, neuroradiolo gist, neuropathologist and neurologist the concise information they need for diagnostic purposes concerning the aspect, site, and ma lignancy of tumors and other space-occupying lesions in the brain. The schematic diagrams showing the sites of predilection of these tumors, as well as a piOgnosis based on the degree of malignancy, will be most useful here. The early chapters discuss the general rules governing displace ments due to space-occupying lesions and the manifestations of brain herniations. Other neurosurgical conditions, such as localized inflammatory processes, edema and obstructive hydrocephalus, are dealt with in brief chaptets; in this case I have chosen to show some of the rarer conditions rather than all the common lesions. In spite of probable future changes in terminology and classification, we have retained the classification used in the Atlas of Histology of Brain Tumors.

Book Perinatal Neuropathology

Download or read book Perinatal Neuropathology written by Mirna Lechpammer and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "1 Clinical history, clinical correlations with placental pathology and prematurity The initial steps in the process of perinatal nervous system evaluation, namely the planning of the optimal approach and choice of samples to be obtained, are driven by the clinical context. Of key importance are the following data: a. Gestational age at time of demise (if stillborn); or gestational age and postnatal age (if liveborn), for comparison with normative standards of development (see Appendix); b. State of maternal health (age, parity, pre-existing medical conditions or ones appearing during gestation or around the time of delivery, exposure to medications/toxins/infections), and of health of siblings or other family members: - Concerns for inherited (i.e., genetic) conditions, metabolic disorders, congenital infections, etc., may indicate the need for special testing; c. Details of prenatal course, including any imaging, amniocentesis, or monitoring: - Prenatal imaging modalities most commonly consist of transabdominal ultrasonography, generally done at the time of the first prenatal visit (to confirm pregnancy) or more usually in the mid-second-trimester for detection of fetal or placental anomalies"--

Download or read book Integrated Neuroscience written by Elliott M. Marcus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 730 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook takes as a premise that, in order to make intelligent diagnosis and provide a rational treatment in disorders of the nervous system, it is necessary to develop the capacity to answer the basic questions of clinical neurology: (1) Where is the disease process located? (2) What is the nature of the disease process? The purpose of this textbook is to enable the medical student to acquire the basic information of the neurosciences and neurology and most importantly the ability to apply that information to the solution of clinical problems. The authors also suggest that hospital trips be a part of any Clinical Neurosciences Course so that the student can put into actual practice what he has learned in the classroom. We believe that this textbook will be of value to the student throughout the four years of the medical school curriculum. Medical, psychiatry and neurology residents may also find this text of value as an introduction or review.
