Book Artificial Intelligence in Real Time Control 1998

Download or read book Artificial Intelligence in Real Time Control 1998 written by Y.H. Pao and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 1999-11-26 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This symposium was the seventh in a very successful series in this field. Since the beginning of the series, there have been a number of very positive developments in the topical area of 'Intelligent Control'. In particular, the area referred to as 'situated control' has stimulated the formation of new perspectives towards real-time intelligent systems. The performances of such artificial species as walking cockroaches, maze-negotiating mice, coke-can collecting robots and the like have encouraged the exploration of yet more adaptive control perspectives. In this symposium, there was a strong wind of change bringing more consideration of the roles of learning, evolution, hybrid systems and so on under many diverse labels and for many different systems and circumstances.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paperback. The Symposium on Artificial Intelligence in Real-Time Control 97 (AIRTC '97) was the seventh in the series of symposia and workshops under the sponsorship of the International Federation of Automatic Control's (IFAC) Co-ordinating Committee in Computer Control and of the Technical Committee on Artificial Intelligence in Real-Time Control.Artificial Intelligence methods, including expert systems, artificial neural networks, fuzzy systems and genetic algorithms, are penetrating almost every field of engineering. These methods have shown their possible application in control, monitoring and supervising tasks which are difficult or impossible to solve when using conventional techniques. We have now come to a stage where there is a need to discuss and present these methods in a broader framework, not only showing their concepts and available algorithms, but also their relative benefits, advantages and disadvantages. This was the purpose of th

Book Artificial Intelligence in Real time Control AIRTC 2000

Download or read book Artificial Intelligence in Real time Control AIRTC 2000 written by I. J. Rudas and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 2001 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Proceedings contains the papers presented at the 9th IFAC AIRTC'2000 Symposium on Artificial Intelligence in Real-Time Control 2000, held at Budapest Polytechnic, Hungary, on 2 - 4 October. AIRTC'2000 builds on the excellent reputation of previous meetings in the series for providing top-quality papers in this important research field. A positive development illustrated by this Proceedings is a new trend towards pragmatism in the research field. Examples of this trend are: an increase in the number of actual industrial applications; support for more widespread use of new sophisticated technologies (e.g. materials design); further intertwining of artificial intelligence and control theory methods that reduces the reliance on blind faith, still too often associated with AI methods. Many things have changed since the first AIRTC event in 1988. Two examples illustrate the change in the general attitude of the IFAC family: in 1990, one of the major closing presentations of the IFAC World Congress warned the control community about the coming hordes of AI people. In 1999, one of the plenary papers at the IFAC World Congress pointed out that the AI based methods form a natural extension of control theory to the class of non-linear systems with incomplete information (at least as far as the optimisation is concerned). This contrast in attitudes shows how, during the past decade, many AI people have embraced control theory and many control people have learned the basics of AI. This Proceedings serves to continue this excellent dialogue, by providing many quality papers which link both fields.

  • ISBN : 0080531458
  • Pages : 2125 pages

Download or read book Expert Systems written by Cornelius T. Leondes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-09-26 with total page 2125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This six-volume set presents cutting-edge advances and applications of expert systems. Because expert systems combine the expertise of engineers, computer scientists, and computer programmers, each group will benefit from buying this important reference work. An "expert system" is a knowledge-based computer system that emulates the decision-making ability of a human expert. The primary role of the expert system is to perform appropriate functions under the close supervision of the human, whose work is supported by that expert system. In the reverse, this same expert system can monitor and double check the human in the performance of a task. Human-computer interaction in our highly complex world requires the development of a wide array of expert systems. Expert systems techniques and applications are presented for a diverse array of topics including Experimental design and decision support The integration of machine learning with knowledge acquisition for the design of expert systems Process planning in design and manufacturing systems and process control applications Knowledge discovery in large-scale knowledge bases Robotic systems Geograhphic information systems Image analysis, recognition and interpretation Cellular automata methods for pattern recognition Real-time fault tolerant control systems CAD-based vision systems in pattern matching processes Financial systems Agricultural applications Medical diagnosis

Book Real Time Programming 1995 WRTP 95

Download or read book Real Time Programming 1995 WRTP 95 written by Phillip Laplante and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 1996 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings contain the papers presented at the 20th IFAC/IFIP Annual Workshop on Real Time Programming (WRTP '95) held in Florida, USA on 6-10 November 1995. The unifying theme of the Workshop was the problem presented by the designed construction and maintenance of complex computer systems which are important in sectors such as manufacturing, communications, defence, transportation, aerospace, hazardous environments, energy and health care. These systems frequently include distributed, heterogeneous networks and are constrained by requirements on performance, real time behaviour, fault tolerance, security, adaptability, development time and cost, long life concerns and other areas. The papers were grouped under various topics (complex and dependable real time systems, formal methods, languages, tools and environments, systems and software engineering, advanced applications such as imaging, database systems and heterogeneous systems) and reflect the desire to bring together industrial, academic and government experts from various disciplines and to promote long-term research, near-term effective complex systems requirements and promising tools.

Book excerpt: This edited collection describes recent progress on lazy learning, a branch of machine learning concerning algorithms that defer the processing of their inputs, reply to information requests by combining stored data, and typically discard constructed replies. It is the first edited volume in AI on this topic, whose many synonyms include `instance-based', `memory-based'. `exemplar-based', and `local learning', and whose topic intersects case-based reasoning and edited k-nearest neighbor classifiers. It is intended for AI researchers and students interested in pursuing recent progress in this branch of machine learning, but, due to the breadth of its contributions, it should also interest researchers and practitioners of data mining, case-based reasoning, statistics, and pattern recognition.

Book Agent Based Manufacturing

  • Author : S.M. Deen
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-04-17
  • ISBN : 3662056240
  • Pages : 326 pages

Download or read book Agent Based Manufacturing written by S.M. Deen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low-volume high-variety products like personalized cars or customized engines will be the key issues for manufacturing in the 21st century. The necessary control technology is based on the concept of holons, which are the units of production and behave as autonomous and cooperative agents, providing flexibility, adaptability, agility, and dynamic reconfigurability. This book presents the latest research results in agent-based manufacturing as carried out by researchers in academia and industry within the international "Holonic Manufacturing Systems" project. As this project was driven by industry, the results presented here are of vital interest not just to researchers in agent technologies or distributed artificial intelligence, but also to engineers and professionals in industry who have to respond to rapid changes and new demands in production.
