Book P adic Analysis and Mathematical Physics

Download or read book P adic Analysis and Mathematical Physics written by Vasili? Sergeevich Vladimirov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: p-adic numbers play a very important role in modern number theory, algebraic geometry and representation theory. Lately p-adic numbers have attracted a great deal of attention in modern theoretical physics as a promising new approach for describing the non-Archimedean geometry of space-time at small distances. This is the first book to deal with applications of p-adic numbers in theoretical and mathematical physics. It gives an elementary and thoroughly written introduction to p-adic numbers and p-adic analysis with great numbers of examples as well as applications of p-adic numbers in classical mechanics, dynamical systems, quantum mechanics, statistical physics, quantum field theory and string theory.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present work treats p-adic properties of solutions of the hypergeometric differential equation d2 d ~ ( x(l - x) dx + (c(l - x) + (c - 1 - a - b)x) dx - ab)y = 0, 2 with a, b, c in 4) n Zp, by constructing the associated Frobenius structure. For this construction we draw upon the methods of Alan Adolphson [1] in his 1976 work on Hecke polynomials. We are also indebted to him for the account (appearing as an appendix) of the relation between this differential equation and certain L-functions. We are indebted to G. Washnitzer for the method used in the construction of our dual theory (Chapter 2). These notes represent an expanded form of lectures given at the U. L. P. in Strasbourg during the fall term of 1980. We take this opportunity to thank Professor R. Girard and IRMA for their hospitality. Our subject-p-adic analysis-was founded by Marc Krasner. We take pleasure in dedicating this work to him. Book p adic Numbers p adic Analysis and Zeta Functions

Download or read book p adic Numbers p adic Analysis and Zeta Functions written by NEAL Koblitz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These lecture notes are intended as an introduction to p-adic analysis on the elementary level. For this reason they presuppose as little background as possi ble. Besides about three semesters of calculus, I presume some slight exposure to more abstract mathematics, to the extent that the student won't have an adverse reaction to matrices with entries in a field other than the real numbers, field extensions of the rational numbers, or the notion of a continuous map of topolog ical spaces. The purpose of this book is twofold: to develop some basic ideas of p-adic analysis, and to present two striking applications which, it is hoped, can be as effective pedagogically as they were historically in stimulating interest in the field. The first of these applications is presented in Chapter II, since it only requires the most elementary properties of Q ; this is Mazur's construction by p means of p-adic integration of the Kubota-Leopoldtp-adic zeta-function, which "p-adically interpolates" the values of the Riemann zeta-function at the negative odd integers. My treatment is based on Mazur's Bourbaki notes (unpublished).

Book Effective Results and Methods for Diophantine Equations over Finitely Generated Domains

Download or read book Effective Results and Methods for Diophantine Equations over Finitely Generated Domains written by Jan-Hendrik Evertse and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-04-28 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the first thorough treatment of effective results and methods for Diophantine equations over finitely generated domains. Compiling diverse results and techniques from papers written in recent decades, the text includes an in-depth analysis of classical equations including unit equations, Thue equations, hyper- and superelliptic equations, the Catalan equation, discriminant equations and decomposable form equations. The majority of results are proved in a quantitative form, giving effective bounds on the sizes of the solutions. The necessary techniques from Diophantine approximation and commutative algebra are all explained in detail without requiring any specialized knowledge on the topic, enabling readers from beginning graduate students to experts to prove effective finiteness results for various further classes of Diophantine equations.

Book An Indefinite Excursion in Operator Theory

Download or read book An Indefinite Excursion in Operator Theory written by Aurelian Gheondea and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-07-28 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This modern introduction to operator theory on spaces with indefinite inner product discusses the geometry and the spectral theory of linear operators on these spaces, the deep interplay with complex analysis, and applications to interpolation problems. The text covers the key results from the last four decades in a readable way with full proofs provided throughout. Step by step, the reader is guided through the intricate geometry and topology of spaces with indefinite inner product, before progressing to a presentation of the geometry and spectral theory on these spaces. The author carefully highlights where difficulties arise and what tools are available to overcome them. With generous background material included in the appendices, this text is an excellent resource for researchers in operator theory, functional analysis, and related areas as well as for graduate students.

Book Recent Progress in the Theory of the Euler and Navier Stokes Equations

Download or read book Recent Progress in the Theory of the Euler and Navier Stokes Equations written by James C. Robinson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-01-21 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rigorous mathematical theory of the Navier–Stokes and Euler equations has been a focus of intense activity in recent years. This volume, the product of a workshop in Venice in 2013, consolidates, surveys and further advances the study of these canonical equations. It consists of a number of reviews and a selection of more traditional research articles on topics that include classical solutions to the 2D Euler equation, modal dependency for the 3D Navier–Stokes equation, zero viscosity Boussinesq equations, global regularity and finite-time singularities, well-posedness for the diffusive Burgers equations, and probabilistic aspects of the Navier–Stokes equation. The result is an accessible summary of a wide range of active research topics written by leaders in their field, together with some exciting new results. The book serves both as a helpful overview for graduate students new to the area and as a useful resource for more established researchers.

Book Geometry Topology and Dynamics in Negative Curvature

Download or read book Geometry Topology and Dynamics in Negative Curvature written by C. S. Aravinda and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-01-21 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ICM 2010 satellite conference 'Geometry, Topology and Dynamics in Negative Curvature' afforded an excellent opportunity to discuss various aspects of this fascinating interdisciplinary subject in which methods and techniques from geometry, topology, and dynamics often interact in novel and interesting ways. Containing ten survey articles written by some of the leading experts in the field, this proceedings volume provides an overview of important recent developments relating to negative curvature. Topics covered include homogeneous dynamics, harmonic manifolds, the Atiyah Conjecture, counting circles and arcs, and hyperbolic buildings. Each author pays particular attention to the expository aspects, making the book particularly useful for graduate students and mathematicians interested in transitioning from other areas via the common theme of negative curvature.
