Download or read book Music in Latin America and the Caribbean An Encyclopedic History REANNOUNCE F05 Volume 2 Performing the Caribbean Experience written by Kuss, Malena and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The music of the peoples of South and Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean is treated with unprecedented breadth in this multi-volume work. Taking a sociocultural and human-centered approach, Music in Latin America and the Caribbean gathers the best scholarship from writers all over the world to cover in depth the musical legacies of indigenous peoples, creoles, African descendants, Iberian colonizers, and other immigrant groups that met and mixed in the New World. From these texts, music emerges as the powerful tool that negotiates identities, enacts resistance, performs beliefs, and challenges received aesthetics. More than two decades in the making, this work privileges the perspectives of cultural insiders and emphasizes the role that music plays in human life. Volume 2, Performing the Caribbean Experience, focuses on the reconfiguration of this complex soundscape after the Conquest and on the strategies by which groups from distant worlds reconstructed traditions, assigning new meanings to fragments of memory and welding a fascinating variety of unique Creole cultures. Shaped by an enduring African presence and the experience of slavery and colonization by the Spanish, French, British, and Dutch, peoples of the Caribbean islands and circum-Caribbean territories resorted to the power of music to mirror their history, assert identity, gain freedom, and transcend their experience in lasting musical messages. Essays on pan-Caribbean themes, surveys of traditions, and riveting personal accounts capture the essence of pluralistic and spiritualized brands of creativity through the voices of an unprecedented number of Caribbean authors, including a representative contingent of distinguished Cuban scholars whose work is being published in English translation for the first time in this book. Two CDs with 52 recorded examples illustrate the contributions to this volume.

Download or read book El problema del embarazo en la adolescencia Contribuciones a un debate written by Claudio Stern and published by El Colegio de Mexico AC. This book was released on 2012 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Discurso y conocimiento written by Teun van Dijk and published by Editorial GEDISA. This book was released on 2016-10 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Music in Latin America and the Caribbean An Encyclopedic History written by Malena Kuss and published by Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long. This book was released on 2004 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The music of the peoples of South and Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean has never received a comprehensive treatment in English until this multi-volume work. Within a history marked by cultural encounters and dislocations, music emerges as the powerful tool that negotiates identities, enacts resistance, performs belief, and challenges received aesthetics. This work, more than two decades in the making, was conceived as part of "The Universe of Music: A History" project, initiated by and developed in cooperation with the International Music Council, with the goals of empowering Latin Americans and Caribbeans to shape their own musical history and emphasizing the role that music plays in human life. The four volumes that constitute this work are structured as parts of a single conception and gather 150 contributions by more than 100 distinguished scholars representing 36 countries. Volume 1, Performing Beliefs: Indigenous Cultures of South America, Central America, and Mexico, focuses on the inextricable relationships between worldviews and musical experience in the current practices of indigenous groups. Worldviews are built into, among other things, how music is organized and performed, how musical instruments are constructed and when they are played, choreographic formations, the structure of songs, the assignment of gender to instruments, and ritual patterns. Download or read book The Cultural Experience written by David W. McCurdy and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2004-11-03 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cultural Experience has helped generations of undergraduates discover the excitement of ethnographic research through participation in relatively familiar cultures in North American society. Grounded in the interviewing-based ethnographic technique known as ethnosemantics, the latest edition continues to treat ethnography as a discovery process. Students are taught how to set up an ethnographic field study, choose a microculture, and find and approach an informant, as well as how to ask ethnographic questions, record data, and organize and analyze what they have learned. Detailed instruction on how to write an ethnography is also provided. The guidelines are followed by ten short but substantive, well-written student ethnographies on such microcultures as exotic dancing, firefighting, pest extermination, and the work of midwives and police detectives. The Second Edition of this popular classroom volume includes boxed inserts that offer suggestions to aid in the research process, material on how to use observation and narratives with the ethnosemantic approach, an emphasis on how to find cultural themes and adaptive challenges by analyzing ethnographic field data, and extensive strategies for writing the final ethnographic paper. It also presents a comprehensive treatment of ethical responsibilities as well as a discussion of the significance of ethnographic research and its applications in the workplace.

Download or read book La transici n a la pol tica de masas written by Sebastian Balfour and published by Universitat de València. This book was released on 2001 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Miradas Sobre Pasado Y Presente en El Cine Espanol 1990 2005 written by Pietsie Feenstra and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2008 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
