Book Performance of Antiproton Injection and Extraction Transfer Lines of the Recycler Ring at Fermilab

Download or read book Performance of Antiproton Injection and Extraction Transfer Lines of the Recycler Ring at Fermilab written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Recycler Ring, an 8 GeV antiproton accumulator, is being commissioned at Fermilab. Antiproton transfers in and out of the Recycler Ring take place through two transfer lines connecting the Recycler to the Main Injector. Transfer line layout and operation of beam transfers will be described. Particular attention has been paid to injection mismatch effects, in order to limit emittance growth during transfers. A considerable improvement has been achieved by removing vacuum windows, previously present in both transfer lines.

Book The Use of the Fermilab Antiproton Accumulator in Medium Energy Physics Experiments

Download or read book The Use of the Fermilab Antiproton Accumulator in Medium Energy Physics Experiments written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fermilab antiprotron Accumulator has been modified for use in a medium energy experiment. The experiment is conducted with circulating antiproton beam of momentum between 6.7 GeV/c and 3.7 GeV/c colliding with protons from an internal gas jet. Antiprotons are accumulated at the normal momentum of 8.9 GeV/c and then decelerated to the appropriate energy. It is necessary to cool the beam continually during the time it is colliding with the gas jet. The experiment requires new provisions for the control of magnet power supplies and low level rf system and modifications of the cooling system and high level energy systems to permit variable energy operation. Transition must be crossed to decelerate the beam below 5 GeV/c; because the deceleration is very slow, transition can not be crossed in a conventional manner. This paper will describe the required changes to the Accumulator and operating experience with protons. 8 refs., 2 figs., 1 tab.

Book Transverse Emittance Growth in the Fermilab Antiproton Accumulator with High Current Antiproton Stacks

Download or read book Transverse Emittance Growth in the Fermilab Antiproton Accumulator with High Current Antiproton Stacks written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transverse emittance growth due to coherent instabilities in the Fermilab antiproton accumulator imposes a limit on the number of antiprotons which can be stacked and subsequently transferred to the collider. Consequences, the diagnosis and control of these phenomena has been required to further increase the luminosity of the collider. In this paper they present an overview of the techniques by which these instabilities have been studied and the methods by which they are controlled.

Book Improvements to Antiproton Accumulator to Recycler Transfers at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider

Download or read book Improvements to Antiproton Accumulator to Recycler Transfers at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 2005, the Recycler has become the sole storage ring for antiprotons used in the Tevatron Collider. The operational role of the Antiproton Source has shifted to exclusively producing antiprotons for periodic transfers to the Recycler. The process of transferring the antiprotons from the Accumulator to the Recycler has been greatly improved, leading to a dramatic reduction in the transfer time. The reduction in time has been accomplished with both an improvement in transfer efficiency and an increase in average stacking rate. This paper will describe the improvements that have streamlined the transfer process and other changes that contributed to a significant increase in the number of antiprotons available to the Collider.

Book Intensity Frontier Antiproton Physics with The Antiproton Annihilation Spectrometer TAPAS at Fermilab

Download or read book Intensity Frontier Antiproton Physics with The Antiproton Annihilation Spectrometer TAPAS at Fermilab written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fermilab Antiproton Source is the world's most intense source of antimatter. With the Tevatron program now behind us, this unique facility can help make the case for Fermilab's continued accelerator operations. The Antiproton Source can be used for unique, dedicated antimatter studies, including medium-energy {bar p}-annihilation experiments. We propose to assemble a powerful, yet cost-effective, solenoidal magnetic spectrometer for antiproton-annihilation events, and to use it at the Fermilab Antiproton Accumulator to measure the charm production cross section, study rare hyperon decays, search for hyperon CP asymmetry, precisely measure the properties of several charmonium and nearby states, and make the first measurements of the Drell-Yan continuum in medium-energy antiproton annihilation. Should the charm production cross section be as large as some have proposed, we will also be able to measure D°-{bar D}° mixing with high precision and discover (or sensitively limit) charm CP violation. The observation of charm or hyperon CP violation would be evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model, with possible implications for the origin of the baryon asymmetry of the universe - the question of what happened to all the antimatter that must have been produced in the Big Bang. The experiment will be carried out by an international collaboration and will require some four years of running time. As possibly the sole hadron experiment in progress at Fermilab during that time, it will play an important role in maintaining a broad particle physics program at Fermilab and in the U.S. It will thus help us to continue attracting creative and capable young people into science and technology, and introducing them to the important technologies of accelerators, detectors, and data acquisition and analysis - key roles in society that accelerator-based particle physics has historically played.

Book Antiproton Accumulator in the Main Injector Era

Download or read book Antiproton Accumulator in the Main Injector Era written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I propose a new lattice for Fermilab Antiproton Accumulator. The lattice is designed with the aim of implementing higher bandwidth stochastic cooling systems, thus enabling the Accumulator to handle antiproton beam intensities expected in the Main Injector era. The design proposed here satisfies very well all the requirements for the new Accumulator concerning the lattice functions, stochastic cooling parameters, and the tunability of the machine.

Data taking with the full complement of apparatus started in early July 1990.

Book Measurement of Escaping Ions in the Fermilab Antiproton Accumulator

Download or read book Measurement of Escaping Ions in the Fermilab Antiproton Accumulator written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Positively charged ions trapped in the negatively charged beam of the Fermilab antiproton accumulator pose a limit to beam stability and density. To better understand the dynamics and the consequences of the beam-ion interaction, they have built and installed a low energy ion detector and energy analyzer in the Fermilab accumulator. This analyzer is capable of energy analysis of the escaping ions using a probe with energy retarding grids and may also be scanned in the pitch angle of the escaping ions. Measurements have been made in both longitudinal and transverse planes under a variety of machine operating conditions. The experimental measurement results are presented together with attempts to model the ion dynamics and explain observations.

Book Fermilab Recycler Stochastic Cooling Commissioning and Performance

Download or read book Fermilab Recycler Stochastic Cooling Commissioning and Performance written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fermilab Recycler is a fixed 8 GeV kinetic energy storage ring located in the Fermilab Main Injector tunnel near the ceiling. The Recycler has two roles in Run II. First, to store antiprotons from the Fermilab Antiproton Accumulator so that the antiproton production rate is no longer compromised by large numbers of antiprotons stored in the Accumulator. Second, to receive antiprotons from the Fermilab Tevatron at the end of luminosity periods. To perform each of these roles, stochastic cooling in the Recycler is needed to preserve and cool antiprotons in preparation for transfer to the Tevatron. The commissioning and performance of the Recycler stochastic cooling systems will be reviewed.
