Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'It works extremely well. In large part because Bourdain is a very funny writer; sharp, honest and with a beguiling mix of belligerence and sensitivity' Sunday Telegraph 'Brilliantly written up in a raw, stylish gonzo prose, with pitch-black humour and a devilish turn of phrase' Evening Standard ____________________ Anthony Bourdain, life-long line cook and bestselling author of Kitchen Confidential, sets off to eat his way around the world. But being Anthony Bourdain, this was never going to be a conventional culinary tour. Bourdain heads out to Saigon where he eats the still-beating heart of a live cobra, and travels deep into landmined Khmer Rouge territory to find the rumoured Wild West of Cambodia (Pailin). Other stops include dining with gangsters in Russia, a medieval pig slaughter and feast in northern Portugal, the Basque All Male Gastronomique Society in Saint Sebastian, rural Mexico with his Mexican sous-chef, a pilgrimage to the French Laundry in the Napa Valley and a return to his roots in the tiny fishing village of La Teste, where he first ate an oyster as a child. Written with the inimitable machismo and humour that has made Tony Bourdain such a sensation, A Cook's Tour is an adventure story sure to give you indigestion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE Anthonys were ever an untameable breed, unbowed by circumstances, and though the last but one, the present laird, was a sport from all the true type, Richard, the last of all of them, was the most uncompromising, the most indomitable of the lot."What good are you?" demanded his uncle, Major Anthony. "What can you do?""I have to thank circumstances," smiled Richard. "I can swim, I can ride, and I can sail a boat against any man I ever met.""That's it!" swore his uncle, blowing up with rage. "Sail a boat! That's all you can do! That's all you own beyond a suit or two of clothes! Sail a boat!""I mean to," said Richard. "I'm only waiting for you to talk business first.""What business? Balderdash! What d'you think I'll do for you?--a failure!--a disgrace to the Anthonys! Not one penny! Not one ha'penny!"You're disinherited! It's automatic. The estate provided for you while there was a chance to pass an examination. That ceased when you failed for the Indian Civil. To inherit, an Anthony must enter one or other of the services. You know that.

Book THE SURREAL ADVENTURES OF ANTHONY ZEN

Download or read book THE SURREAL ADVENTURES OF ANTHONY ZEN written by Cameron Straughan and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2020-07 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anthony Zen is an eccentric, free-spirited young man who collects round objects and shares his flat with a ringing cat. He lives in an unnamed city and works at a place called 'WORK', where he diligently shuffles papers and sharpens pencils. He is set upon by a wide variety of modern, commonplace problems yet chooses to deal with them in a playful, mischievous manner in his search for enlightenment, inner peace and a really good pair of trousers. In Anthony's universe, even the most mundane day-to-day activity can - and probably will - spiral into absurd, surreal chaos. With a healthy sense of the absurd, liberal doses of humour, two cups fantasy, dollops of surrealism and a pinch of shocking unpredictability, 'The Surreal Adventures of Anthony' reflects our modern predicament. The twenty-three short stories collected in 'Anthony Zen' share common themes including the struggle to remain an individual, the impact of a poor work / life balance, loss/disregard of spirituality, difficulty living in the moment, maintaining relationships, embracing the inner child's sense of wonderment and fun and coping with expectations that don't match reality. While these themes are fundamentally serious, 'Anthony' reaches for the light. Thus, serious messages are interspersed with moments of levity. These are stories that don't forget to loosen up and have some fun. After all, laughter is the best medicine.

Book The Adventures of Little Mikey

Download or read book The Adventures of Little Mikey written by Anthony Harris and published by Gatekeeper Press. This book was released on 2019-06-03 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Little Mikey is 10 years old and lives with his mom, dad, and sister. His full name is Michael Vincent Harris, but many people call him Little Mikey because, in his first-grade class, there were two Mikeys – one big and one little. Since he was smaller than Big Mikey, his friends started calling him Little Mikey and the other Mikey, Big Mikey. Nearly every day, whether at school, at home, or at play, Little Mikey seems to get himself into some type of mischief or trouble. The mischief and trouble he gets into doesn’t cause anyone to get hurt. He never bullies anyone. He never uses foul language. And he never uses violence to solve problems. But he makes decisions that sometimes cause him to get into trouble with his parents and teachers. When Little Mikey makes a mistake and finds himself in trouble, he knows to follow three steps: 1. Admit that he made the mistake. 2. Apologize. 3. Promise to try not to make the same mistake again. Each school day, his teachers, counselors, and principals remind him and the other kids of those three important steps, which are not intended to punish. Instead, they are intended to help them to become better at resolving conflict and making learning more fun and exciting. Join Little Mikey, his family, and his best friend, Ricardo, in a series of stories about Little Mikey’s daily adventures as a 10-year old kid. Some of the stories will make you laugh and cause you to think that Little Mikey is a really cool kid. When one of his mistakes makes him feel sad, you might even feel sorry for him. Some of the stories might make you ask: What would I have done if I were Little Mikey? Why did Little Mikey do that? What could Little Mikey have done to avoid getting into trouble and mischief?

Book The Admirable Adventures and Strange Fortunes of Master Anthony Knivet

Download or read book The Admirable Adventures and Strange Fortunes of Master Anthony Knivet written by Anthony Knivet and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015-09-15 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first critical edition of the original 1625 travel account by Anthony Knivet, an Englishman who spent nine years in Brazil in the last decade of the sixteenth century. His is the oldest extensive account of Brazil written by an Englishman, but despite its historical, geographical, and ethnographic relevance it has never merited an annotated (or even a separate) edition in English. This edition, which includes a detailed introduction and extensive notes, allows the English-speaking public to follow Knivet's compelling tale. The account describes Knivet's incredible adventures, experienced roughly between 1592 and 1601, which include working as a drudge for the governor of Rio de Janeiro, escaping into the hinterland to live with native tribes and joining in expeditions of conquest and gold-seeking. The story provides a unique insight into early colonial Brazil and the myriad of people occupying its territory: Portuguese settlers, mixed-race servants, Indians, slaves, and European travellers.
