Book excerpt: Computational Fluid Dynamics: Principles and Applications, Third Edition presents students, engineers, and scientists with all they need to gain a solid understanding of the numerical methods and principles underlying modern computation techniques in fluid dynamics. By providing complete coverage of the essential knowledge required in order to write codes or understand commercial codes, the book gives the reader an overview of fundamentals and solution strategies in the early chapters before moving on to cover the details of different solution techniques. This updated edition includes new worked programming examples, expanded coverage and recent literature regarding incompressible flows, the Discontinuous Galerkin Method, the Lattice Boltzmann Method, higher-order spatial schemes, implicit Runge-Kutta methods and parallelization. An accompanying companion website contains the sources of 1-D and 2-D Euler and Navier-Stokes flow solvers (structured and unstructured) and grid generators, along with tools for Von Neumann stability analysis of 1-D model equations and examples of various parallelization techniques. - Will provide you with the knowledge required to develop and understand modern flow simulation codes - Features new worked programming examples and expanded coverage of incompressible flows, implicit Runge-Kutta methods and code parallelization, among other topics - Includes accompanying companion website that contains the sources of 1-D and 2-D flow solvers as well as grid generators and examples of parallelization techniques

Book Annual Research Briefs 2001 Center for Turbulence Research

Download or read book Annual Research Briefs 2001 Center for Turbulence Research written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains the 2001 Annual Progress Reports of the postdoctoral fellows and visiting scholars of the Center for Turbulence Research. In 2001 CTR sponsored 15 resident Postdoctoral Fellows, 7 Research Associates and 3 Senior Research Fellows, hosted 7 visiting scholars and many shorter-term visitors, and supported 6 doctoral students. Most of the doctoral students engaged in turbulence research at CTR are supported by the U.S Office of Naval Research or the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. CTR is closely associated with the Stanford multidepartmental Center for Integrated Turbulence Simulations (CITS), funded by the Department of Energy's Accelerated Strategic Computing Initiative (ASCI). The aim of the CITS program is to compute the complete flow through an aircraft gas turbine engine. The combustion chamber is the most critical region: it is typically of very complicated geometrical shape, and the fuel is introduced as a spray of droplets which must disperse and vaporize before burning. The first paper in this volume describes large-eddy simulation of the air flow in a real aircraft gas turbine combustor, and there are several papers relevant to the crucial problem of spray combustion.

Book Stochastic Methods in Fluid Mechanics

Download or read book Stochastic Methods in Fluid Mechanics written by Sergio Chibbaro and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-05 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since their first introduction in natural sciences through the work of Einstein on Brownian motion in 1905 and further works, in particular by Langevin, Smoluchowski and others, stochastic processes have been used in several areas of science and technology. For example, they have been applied in chemical studies, or in fluid turbulence and for combustion and reactive flows. The articles in this book provide a general and unified framework in which stochastic processes are presented as modeling tools for various issues in engineering, physics and chemistry, with particular focus on fluid mechanics and notably dispersed two-phase flows. The aim is to develop what can referred to as stochastic modeling for a whole range of applications.

Book Computational and Experimental Fluid Mechanics with Applications to Physics Engineering and the Environment

Download or read book Computational and Experimental Fluid Mechanics with Applications to Physics Engineering and the Environment written by Leonardo Di G. Sigalotti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-11 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents a collection of selected papers from the I Workshop of the Venezuelan Society of Fluid Mechanics held on Margarita Island, Venezuela from November 4 to 9, 2012. Written by experts in their respective fields, the contributions are organized into five parts: - Part I Invited Lectures, consisting of full-length technical papers on both computational and experimental fluid mechanics covering a wide range of topics from drops to multiphase and granular flows to astrophysical flows, - Part II Drops, Particles and Waves - Part III Multiphase and Multicomponent Flows - Part IV Atmospheric and Granular Flows - and Part V Turbulent and Astrophysical Flows. The book is intended for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students as well as for physicists, chemists and engineers teaching and working in the field of fluid mechanics and its applications. The contributions are the result of recent advances in theoretical and experimental research in fluid mechanics, encompassing both fundamentals as well as applications to fluid engineering design, including pipelines, turbines, flow separators, hydraulic systems and biological fluid elements, and to granular, environmental and astrophysical flows.

Book Direct and Large Eddy Simulation VIII

Download or read book Direct and Large Eddy Simulation VIII written by Hans Kuerten and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-05 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume continues previous DLES proceedings books, presenting modern developments in turbulent flow research. It is comprehensive in its coverage of numerical and modeling techniques for fluid mechanics. After Surrey in 1994, Grenoble in 1996, Cambridge in 1999, Enschede in 2001, Munich in 2003, Poitiers in 2005, and Trieste in 2009, the 8th workshop, DLES8, was held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, again under the auspices of ERCOFTAC. Following the spirit of the series, the goal of this workshop is to establish a state-of-the-art of DNS and LES techniques for the computation and modeling of transitional/turbulent flows covering a broad scope of topics such as aerodynamics, acoustics, combustion, multiphase flows, environment, geophysics and bio-medical applications. This gathering of specialists in the field was a unique opportunity for discussions about the more recent advances in the prediction, understanding and control of turbulent flows in academic or industrial situations.
