Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of rocks and minerals often requires a specific approach, especially when determining rare and scattered elements, the content of which can be extremely low. This volume presents the main principles of analytical techniques most commonly used in the determination of the chemical composition of minerals and rocks. Special attention is given to methodological features and analytical schemes of various minerals, methods of mineral stripping and use of hybrid methods of analysis.

Book Analytical Chemistry in the Exploration Mining and Processing of Materials

Download or read book Analytical Chemistry in the Exploration Mining and Processing of Materials written by A. Strasheim and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical Chemistry in the Exploration, Mining and Processing of Materials is a collection of plenary lectures presented at the International Symposium on Analytical Chemistry in the Exploration, Mining, and Processing of Materials, held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on August 23-27, 1976. Contributors explore the applications of analytical chemistry in the exploration, mining, and processing of materials and cover topics ranging from the role of reference materials in analytical chemistry to analytical requirements in exploration geochemistry, along with activation analysis of ores and minerals. This book is comprised of 15 chapters and begins with a discussion on the analytical needs for primary coal covering three sets of parameters associated with chemical quality, physical nature and condition, and rank fundamental properties. The reader is then introduced to coal products (coke, tar, gas) and their analysis; analytical chemistry of the noble metals; use of chromatography in the analysis of inorganic materials; and developments in wavelength and energy dispersive spectrometry, Subsequent chapters deal with optical emission spectrochemical analysis; automated on-line analysis for controlling industrial processes; and atomic absorption spectroscopy and its applications. This monograph will be a useful resource for chemists, metallurgists, materials scientists, and mining engineers.

Book Chemical Methods of Rock Analysis

Download or read book Chemical Methods of Rock Analysis written by D. Hutchison and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical guide to the methods in general use for the complete analysis of silicate rock material and for the determination of all those elements present in major, minor or trace amounts in silicate and other rocks that are routinely, commonly or occasionally determined by methods that are considered to be essentially chemical in character. Such methods include those based upon spectrophotometry, flame emission spectrometry and atomic absorption spectroscopy, as well as gravimetry, titrimetry and the use of ion-selective electrodes. Separation stages are described in full, using precipitation, solvent extraction, distillation, and ion-ex procedures as appropriate. The third edition has been fully revised and updated.

Book Physicochemical Methods of Mineral Analysis

Download or read book Physicochemical Methods of Mineral Analysis written by A. Nicol and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has developed from a short residential course organised by the Department of Minerals Engineering and the Department of Extra Mural Studies of the University of Birmingham. The course was concerned mainly with physical methods of analysis of minerals and mineral products, and particular regard was given to 'non-destructive' methods, with special emphasis on newly available techniques but with a review of older methods and their recent developments included therein. Mineral analysis is obviously of great importance in all the stages of mineral exploration, processing, and utilisation. Selection of a method for a particular mineral or mineral product will depend upon a number of factors, primarily whether an elementary analysis or a phase or structure analysis is required. It will also depend upon the accuracy required. The chapters in the book covering the different methods show the range of useful applicability of the methods considered and should prove valuable as an aid or methods for a given set of circumstances. in selecting a suitable method The book, referring as it does to the majority of the instrumental methods available today (as well as, for comparison, a useful contribution on the place of classical wet chemical analysis) will be valuable to the student as well as to those analysts, research workers, and process engineers who are concerned with the winning, processing, and utilisation of minerals and mineral products.

Book Structural Chemical Systematics of Minerals

Download or read book Structural Chemical Systematics of Minerals written by Alexander A. Godovikov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-22 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents new structural-chemical minerals of A.A. Godovikov which reflects the latest data on communication of the chemical composition with structure and properties of minerals, conditions of their formation, their paragenesis. The following features lay its basis: a) the numerous, often not considered earlier chemical signs on which chemical properties of minerals, conditions of their formation or paragenesis may depend; b) the determined consistent patterns of communication between chemical compounds structure and fundamental properties of the elements forming them; c) regularities of structure change and properties of minerals depending on physical and chemical parameters of formation or environment systems. This systematiс considers real associations, differences in physical and chemical parameters at which minerals are forming and existing. In this systematic sometimes the preference is given to the last signs because all natural associations aren't casual in an arrangement of minerals, so they formed as a result of difficult and longtime selection. The properties of minerals are coordinated with their structure, formation conditions. The transition conditions from one taxon to another both at one level and at its deepenings are accurately formulated. The primary type of a chemical bond was accepted as leading sign of five highest taxons. The lowest taxons were allocated on: a) the mineral belongings to izodesmichesky or anizodesmichesky connections; b) the type of anion, cation; c) the coordination number of an anionoobrazovatel; d) the size of CX; e) the type of the structure. The signs which are in the basis for systematization give the chance to find the place for new mineral types in the tables, to change the place of mineral in connection with specification of its formula or structure. They also allow to distinguish new taxons for the new mineral types representing chemical compounds, earlier not known in nature. Thus this systematic is not a stiffened representation but the developing system.
