Book Global Sourcing Procurement in China

Download or read book Global Sourcing Procurement in China written by Hauke Jensen and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2009-06 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2005 in the subject Business economics - Supply, Production, Logistics, grade: 1,7, Kiel University of Applied Sciences, 89 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: The matter of China Sourcing is at present being given little or medium-level priority by many companies. This however is not consistent with the potential which this matter offers with reference to procurement costs and consequently one's own competitive position. In the near future China will advance to become the procurement market par excellence. Today, it already has a large supply base, which in the next few years will lead to China developing into one of the most aggressive competitors in the world. This will lead to an increase in procurement from China. However, it is misplaced to rush into the "adventure" of procurement in China. Thorough preparation is necessary to be successful in the Chinese market. Procurement in China does not only offer opportunities but it is afflicted by risks and problems. The focus of this book is directed towards 5 important problem areas: a lack of market transparency, difficulty in establishing contacts, underdeveloped logistics infrastructure, a lack of product quality, unusual negotiating strategies. The reader is made sensitive to these problem areas. At the same time, it provides practical advice to overcome these problems and gives purchasers useful information and hints in practical business situations. This guide is aimed at purchasing managers in production companies who have not yet had experience of dealing with or in China and who would like to start.

Book Global Operations Sourcing Strategy

Download or read book Global Operations Sourcing Strategy written by Y. Chen and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report on a survey of global manufacturing sourcing decisions that were made by multi-national companies operating in China. Based on responses from Chinese managers, the survey explored explicit sourcing and technology company decisions. The analysis provided insights into what these firms are doing with respect to global sourcing and why they are doing so. Analysis of the responses also shed light on how these decisions were made. Our results tested the validity of various arguments that have been put forward to predict or explain the pattern of global sourcing shifts that is taking place. The key takeaways from this paper are 1) the observed pattern of decision making, which can be grouped into dominant flows, indicates that re-shoring to the developed economies is not happening on a large scale and that shifting in and out of and within China is occurring with direction and reasons dependent on the particular industry, and 2) insight into the fact that that firms are evaluating complex tradeoffs when making both technology and sourcing decisions and thus a single dominant driver, such as labor cost, does not adequately explain the observed patterns.

Book Continuous Improvement at a Multinational Company

Download or read book Continuous Improvement at a Multinational Company written by Arturo Ochoa Gonzalez and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis explores the problem of global supply chain flexibility in the context of a multinational commonly that we refer to as Company X. Company X faces competitive markets, increasingly demanding customers, and internal challenges due to the global extension of previously local business processes. Company X aims not only to produce goods to meet customers' requirements but also to improve the performance of its fundamental business processes. Considering this reality, this thesis explores two main initiatives to accomplish sustainable continuous improvement: 1) maximize flexibility in the Global Value Chain while minimizing waste and variance, and 2) develop a methodology to ensure the successful implementation of improvements. For the optimization of the Global Value Chain, the objective was to enable the company to grow its business as global opportunities present themselves. For this purpose, this thesis proposes a new planning process that both enables assessing the risk on supply and deliveries due to the variability of lead times and includes real options analysis in the planning processes for Region A. As a result, this Dynamic Strategic Global Sourcing Plan will make possible the creation of a plan that captures benefits from increases in project value and insures against losses from decreased project value. In addition to the strategic and tactical work for the optimization of the Value Chain, it is a reality that large-scale transformation requires a deep understanding of the human side. The company's culture, values, people, mindset and capabilities must be changed to ensure a successful implementation of the improvements. On this line, a unique iterative perspective on managing the human side of change that can be adapted to a variety of realities was developed during the course of the research. This technique is iterative and adaptable because transformation is not a one-time event but an ongoing process and the company is a multinational corporation facing different situations on its locations. Overall, the aim and tasks of the thesis deal with sustaining continuous improvement in a dynamic Global Value Chain environment. The Dynamic Strategic Global Sourcing Plan will enable Company X to respond effectively to changes and the Change Management Process will ensure the implementation of the processes needed to make that effective response possible.

Globalisation is certainly one of the most outstanding phenomena in our today’s world. [...] Especially German companies are facing a multitude of obstacles in their domestic market: High salaries and non-wage labour costs, market saturation and elevated production costs, associated with rising product prices, as well as increasing market dynamism and competi-tiveness forcing the companies to constantly adapt to those changes. Many companies have thus seen an opportunity in global sourcing and moved to emerging market economies (EMEs) in the search for reducing their costs (Heakal, 2003). The foremost reason why those companies move to aspiring markets like China, India, South-East Asia, Eastern Europe or Latin America are the lower wholesale prices in those countries (Kalkowsky, 2006). However, most firms have a different approach to the sourc-ing process and consequently varying success amongst them. This study investigates the strategic challenges of German retail companies in conducting and balancing their sourcing activities in order to respond to the particularities and chal-lenges of specific emerging markets. At the same time an analysis on sourcing process op-erations and structures, together with risks and opportunities of different markets is carried out.

Abstract: Abstract of dissertation entitled Multinational Corporations in China: Analysis of a Strategic Business Model Submitted by Chan Miu Sze for the degree of Master of Arts (China Development Studies) at the University of Hong Kong in June 2006 Since December 2001, China enrolled in the World Trade Organization, which has made a profound impact on the economic growth and development of China. The opening up is beneficial to China and also the rest of the World. It is because the accession has enabled a large number of multinational corporations to enter the Chinese market more easily on one hand, and on the other hand, for China, the membership has fueled its market reform. However, as China has distinctive culture and customs, which foreign firms will find it difficult to handle, together with its emphasis on guanxi, therefore the business tactics for multinational firms to apply in China should be deviated from in elsewhere. Although China has published its "internal rules" for trade and investment-related regulations in order to clarify and expand its legal system, those clarified rules are still varied by provinces. It is because provincial governments are granted certain extent of flexibility to interpret the central laws and to enact rules or regulations "according to concrete local conditions and actual needs." Due to the authoritative local government, the internal strategies are subjected to the government interferences. Therefore, firms may have to carry out guanxi-based external strategies so as to cooperate with the governments and improve operational efficiency. In this research, with the business models of successful multinational corporations in China as case studies, the external strategies for them to gain overwhelming success will be underscored. The research will be also focus on the popularity of corporate social responsibility among the multinational corporations. Lastly, significant implications concerning the external strategies of business model for firms doing business in China will be punctuated in this research.
