Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About 10 years ago, the first very small steps towards this book were taken. The starting point was marked by the deep and sudden slump of the Swiss economy in the mid-seventies: a crisis wiping out about 10 percentage points of GNP and employment within just two years. To this writer, it was clear from the beginning that neither the exogenous shocks nor the struc tural changes were in fact exogenous or structural. They were given and sha ped by global forces. They were part and parcel of capitalist development. There is no other highly developed country in the world which is so ex tremely and integrally exposed to world-wide currents of financial and economic changes as Switzerland. The degree and dimensions of open ness ofthe Swiss economy led to the formulation of our research approach for studying the internationalization of the economy, a topic theoretically and politically developed in this book. Empirical evidence relates to our study of Swiss experience. A well-known Swiss-American economist offered the following com ment on our previous work on the internationalization of industry: "You are very good in raising interesting questions ..." What was undoubtedly meant as a criticism was received as a compliment. Too much talent and too many research efforts are, in my opinion, wasted by research programs which place technique over substance. This unfortunate development in our profession has already greatly reduced the social utility of economists.

Download or read book Compensatory Trade Strategy written by John I Akhile and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006-02 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is only one reason why writing a book on this subject matter is relevant to our times. And it is due to the fact that African nations, like most developing countries, need a new approach to issues relating to the challenge of creating sustained economic development. Compensatory Trade Strategy represents a multiple options plan for establishing and implementing trade arrangements in developing countries, particularly in times of hard currency shortage. Author John Akhile brings twenty-five years of experience on the conduct and finance of international trade, specifically on sub-Saharan Africa, and offers a new look at this global crisis. With his comprehensive approach, Akhile creates a basic plan for those interested in compensatory trade. For developing countries, Akhile presents strategies for creating new industrial development projects and for arranging trade transactions for critical supplies. For companies who are seeking to continue and even expand existing opportunities, Compensatory Trade Strategy is a road map for achieving both objectives.

Download or read book Countertrade written by Costas G. Alexandrides and published by . This book was released on 1987-09-14 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The practice of countertrade--accepting goods as partial or complete payment in international operations--has a variety of uses and benefits for businesses. This clear, thorough treatment outlines effective strategies and organizational structures for executing countertrade operations and explains the unique aspects of countertrading with government buyers by contrasting it with conventional trading with private businesses. It also shows how corporations can use it to penetrate new markets, increase market share, and establish new trading operations. While the book is applications-oriented, it explains the forces leading to the development of countertrade practices and gives enough background information to allow corporations to prepare convincing proposals for buyer countries. Included are a directory of countertrade service organizations, a strategic process chart for transactions, and a countertrade synery matrix.
