Book Grillage Analogy in Bridge Deck Analysis

Download or read book Grillage Analogy in Bridge Deck Analysis written by C. S. Surana and published by Alpha Science Int'l Ltd.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the well established computer-aided method of grillage analogy as applied to analysis of bridge decks. The method, applicable to various types of bridge decks (such as slab bridges, T-beam bridges and box-girder bridges), can handle rigid or flexible support conditions, and right, skew or curved plan layouts. The procedure and recommendations for idealising the actual bridge decks and loadings into mathematical models are discussed. Two programs, given in ready-to-use form, along with descriptions of various subroutines, can analyse a variety of bridge decks accurately and obtain all the responses required in the design. Their uses are explained through worked-out examples. These programs, along with input-data and exhaustive output results of all the worked-out examples, are also available on a diskette and can be ordered seperately from the authors through the publisher. This will help those who do not want to type programs from the book and run into possible risk of errors. The book will be useful for the students, researchers, teachers, designers and consultants engaged in analysing, designing, vetting, tendering or constructing bridges.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Manual covers the relevant issues related to orthotropic steel deck bridge engineering, including analysis, design, detailing, fabrication, testing, inspection, evaluation, and repair. It includes a discussion of some the various applications of orthotropic bridge construction to provide background with case study examples. It also provides basic criteria for the establishment of a cost-effective and serviceable orthotropic bridge cross section with detailing geometry that has been used on recent projects worldwide. The manual covers both the relevant information necessary for the engineering analysis of the orthotropic steel bridge and the requirements for complete design of orthotropic steel bridge superstructures. Additionally, design details such as materials, corrosion protection, minimum proportions, and connection geometry are addressed as well as basic fabrication, welding, and erection procedures. Portions of the manual also cover methods for maintaining and evaluating orthotropic bridges, including inspection and load rating. Wearing surfaces are also covered in depth. The culmination of all the information is demonstrated in two design examples.

Book Manual for Design Construction and Maitenance of Orthotropic Steel Deck Bridges

Download or read book Manual for Design Construction and Maitenance of Orthotropic Steel Deck Bridges written by Federal Highway Administration and published by www.Militarybookshop.CompanyUK. This book was released on 2012-04-01 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Full color, richly illustrated book. This manual aims to gather and disseminate the modern OSD technology based on worldwide practice. Emphasis is now placed on the fact that the design of these structures is generally controlled by fatigue limit states. Details necessary to make these structures work require advanced fatigue evaluation techniques that must rest on accurate stress range calculations, which is possible with the use of the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and/or prototype testing. The fatigue testing database has grown considerably over the last few decades, which has provided the necessary data for proper evaluation and detailing for fatigue resistance.

Book Hastening Convergence of the Orthotropic Plate Solutions of Bridge Deck Analysis

Download or read book Hastening Convergence of the Orthotropic Plate Solutions of Bridge Deck Analysis written by M. Shahab Sakib and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The orthotropic plate method of bridge deck analysis is based on a series solution. The convergence of various response parameters, especially shears, is extremely slow. This study demonstrates numerically a technique of obtaining quick convergence of longitudinal responses in slab and slab-on-girder bridges. The convergence of longitudinal responses is studied for beams, slab-on-girder bridges, and slab bridges for various load configurations. Responses are also evaluated for torsionally-soft and flexurally-stiff slab-on-girder bridges. These responses are evaluated using harmonic analyses and semi-continuum modeling techniques. The results showed that the convergence of shear responses was extremely slow for multi-span bridge structures. The hastening technique used in this study, however, produced virtually complete convergence in most cases by using as few as five harmonics in the series solutions of the orthotropic plate analysis of girder and slab bridges. The orthotropic plate analysis program PLATO has been modified to obtain longitudinal moments in the edge beams of the slab-on-girder and slab bridges; the revised program is called EDGE.

Book Recommendations for Fatigue Design of Welded Joints and Components

Download or read book Recommendations for Fatigue Design of Welded Joints and Components written by A. F. Hobbacher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-23 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a basis for the design and analysis of welded components that are subjected to fluctuating forces, to avoid failure by fatigue. It is also a valuable resource for those on boards or commissions who are establishing fatigue design codes. For maximum benefit, readers should already have a working knowledge of the basics of fatigue and fracture mechanics. The purpose of designing a structure taking into consideration the limit state for fatigue damage is to ensure that the performance is satisfactory during the design life and that the survival probability is acceptable. The latter is achieved by the use of appropriate partial safety factors. This document has been prepared as the result of an initiative by Commissions XIII and XV of the International Institute of Welding (IIW).

Book Procedure for Design of Glued Laminated Ortho Tropic Bridge Decks

Download or read book Procedure for Design of Glued Laminated Ortho Tropic Bridge Decks written by William J. McCutcheon and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most recent improvement in timber bridge design is the vertically glued-laminated panel deck, with the panels placed in a transverse direction to the stringers. Experimental evaluations showed its performance to be superior to that of the conventional nailed-laminated deck. Design methods which consider the glued-laminated deck as an orthotropic plate accurately predict its behavior. Since a laminated bridge deck is constructed from many relatively narrow panels, it is necessary to install connectors which allow the deck to act as a continuous plate. Eight different connector systems were evaluated and steel dowels are best suited for the purpose. Design criteria for dowel connectors, based on the theory of a beam supported on an elastic wood foundation, were developed. The design procedures for glued-laminated transverse decks and steel dowel connectors are presented. (Modified author abstract).
