Book Analysis of a Circular Cylindrical Performated Shell

Download or read book Analysis of a Circular Cylindrical Performated Shell written by J. B. Mahoney and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report contains a summary of the work done under a continuing research contract given to Applied Technology Associates in the field of pressure vessel design. In particular is developed the theoretical solution for the distribution of stresses in a perforated cylindrical shell. These calculations have been reduced to computer codes and are given in the appendix of the report. In addition to the computer codes developed for the effective elastic constants, the report contains a code for the analysis of a circular cylindrical shell whose surface is penetrated only over a portion. Thus the 'equivalent' elastic constants obtained can be used within the shell theory developed in the report to describe the deflections and stresses in a partially perforated shell. (Author).

Book Analysis of a Perforated Cylindrical Shell Part I Determination of Effective Elastic Constants

Download or read book Analysis of a Perforated Cylindrical Shell Part I Determination of Effective Elastic Constants written by J. B. Mahoney and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains the results of the first phase of a three phase program. In this first phase the definitions for the effective orthotropic stiffness coefficients are formulated in terms of the geometric and elastic material properties for a right circular cylindrical shell penetrated by a large number of radial circular holes. The effective stiffness coefficients are developed in a manner quite similar to that used for determining the coefficients for a flat perforated plate. Phases two and three will contain the development of the shell differential equations with solutions and the study of stress distributions respectively. A fourth phase may be necessary in which the same complete process will be repeated for a large number of circular holes of a triangular pattern in the circular cylinder. (Author).

Book Analysis of a Perforated Circular Cylindrical Shell Subjected to Axial Tension Edge Moment Or Transverse Shear

Download or read book Analysis of a Perforated Circular Cylindrical Shell Subjected to Axial Tension Edge Moment Or Transverse Shear written by Richard Mondello and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The method of least square point matching is employed in the analysis of a shallow, circular cylindrical shell with a cutout. The cylinder may be infinite or semi-infinite, and the cutout is either circular or elliptic. For the ellipse the major axis can be oriented either parallel or perpendicular to the generator. In particular, two examples are presented: an infinite cylinder subjected to uniform axial tension, and a semi-infinite cylinder loaded at its edge by either a uniform bending moment or a transverse shear force. In both cases the minor axis of the elliptic cutout is parallel to the generator. The boundary of the perforation is free of tractions and supports. Numerical results are presented and show the effects of variations in: the hole size to cylinder curvature ratio; the eccentricity of the cutout; and for semi-infinite cylinders, the distance from the cutout to the edge. Book Analysis of a Perforated Cylindrical Shell Part Ii Derivation of Equations for the Stress Analysis of a Fully Penetrated Shell

Download or read book Analysis of a Perforated Cylindrical Shell Part Ii Derivation of Equations for the Stress Analysis of a Fully Penetrated Shell written by J. B. Mahoney and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains the derivation of the equations for an orthotropic circular cylindrical shell. The orthotropic material properties of the shell represent the effects of a large number of radial holes penetrating the shell surface in rectangular patterns. The general equations for the orthotropic shell are obtained and are then reduced to a rotationally symmetric form for the case when the penetration patterns extend completely around the shell and the shell is subjected to hydrostatic pressure. These axisymmetric orthotropic cylindrical shell equations are solved as the first and simplest class of solutions obtainable. The orthotropic axisymmetric shell solutions yield the stresses directly which may then be considered average stress values in our idealized structure. Consequently, the investigation later concerns itself with obtaining a method for calculating the peak stress values which occur in the actual penetrated shell. (Author).

Book Analysis of a Cylindrical Shell Penetrated by Multiple Holes in a Triangular Pattern

Download or read book Analysis of a Cylindrical Shell Penetrated by Multiple Holes in a Triangular Pattern written by J. B. Mahoney and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The method presented here is based on the assumption that a set of 'equivalent' elastic constants can be developed for a perforated shell and that these 'equivalent' elastic constants can be used within the classical shell theory to obtain the average deflections and stresses in the perforated shell. The development of the 'equivalent' elastic constants is achieved by comparing the strain energy of an idealized typical element of the perforated shell under stress to a similarly stressed, isotropic, unperforated cylindrical shell element. In the idealization of the element for the perforated shell the beam ligaments and a central inner triangular portion are considered to simulate the total strain energy density. The procedure of including the additional central element is similar to that developed for the square pattern of penetrations in a plate. The final comparison of the two strain energy densities for the idealized element and the isotropic shell element is then performed in a manner similar to that developed by Horvay and Malkin for perforated plate elements. The 'equivalent' elastic constants so determined can then be used in the generalized cylindrical shell equations to obtain a final solution for the deflections and stresses. Author).

Book Asymptotical Mechanics of Composites

Download or read book Asymptotical Mechanics of Composites written by Igor V. Andrianov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-09 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the authors show that it is possible to construct efficient computationally oriented models of multi-parameter complex systems by using asymptotic methods, which can, owing to their simplicity, be directly used for controlling processes arising in connection with composite material systems. The book focuses on this asymptotic-modeling-based approach because it allows us to define the most important out of numerous parameters describing the system, or, in other words, the asymptotic methods allow us to estimate the sensitivity of the system parameters. Further, the book addresses the construction of nonlocal and higher-order homogenized models. Local fields on the micro-level and the influence of so-called non-ideal contact between the matrix and inclusions are modeled and investigated. The book then studies composites with non-regular structure and cluster type composite conductivity, and analyzes edge effects in fiber composite materials. Transition of load from a fiber to a matrix for elastic and viscoelastic composites, various types of fiber composite fractures, and buckling of fibers in fiber-reinforced composites is also investigated. Last but not least, the book includes studies on perforated membranes, plates, and shells, as well as the asymptotic modeling of imperfect nonlinear interfaces.
