Book The Elements of Economics Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Elements of Economics Classic Reprint written by Charles J. Bullock and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-10 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Elements of Economics This book has been written in response to a demand for a somewhat shorter and more elementary work than the Introduction to the Study of Economics, which the author brought out in 1897. In order to meet this demand, it was necessary to make a substantially new book, in which the substance of doctrine and the gen eral groundwork remain the same, but the method of treating most subjects has been more or less radically altered. Less space has been devoted to purely theo retical questions and more descriptive and illustrative material has been presented. It is hoped that the present treatise will meet the needs of a relatively short course for beginners in eco nomics. As the work stands, it is probably extensive enough for the longest courses now given in secondary schools. If it is found too long for some of the shorter courses, the instructor can easily adapt it to the needs of his class by making a few omissions. The first chap ter can be treated in an introductory talk or lecture on the first day that the class meets; and the tenth and fifteenth chapters, treating, as they do, topics that are seldom discussed at length in an elementary work, can be readily omitted. With a few changes of this sort. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Elements of Economics

Download or read book Elements of Economics written by Henry Reed Burch and published by . This book was released on 2016-07-24 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of Economics: With Special Reference to American Conditions, for the Use of High Schools The growing importance of the newer economics makes necessary a simple statement of its fundamental principles. The present work, designed especially for the use of secondary schools, has been prepared with this object in view. Since the book is intended primarily for the begin ner, every effort has been made to secure simplicity of treatment. This simplicity manifests itself chie y in two directions. In the first place, emphasis has been laid upon the con crete and descriptive side of economics. Great attention, therefore, has been paid to the subject of the production of wealth, and much material of an industrial character has been added. In the second place, each chapter is preceded by an outline of its contents and followed by a series of questions which bear on the general topic of the chapter. In those schools where only a very limited amount of time can be devoted to the study of economics, it will be found possible to omit or summarize certain parts of the book according to the special needs of the students, or the particular inclination of the teacher. Book Elements of Economics

Download or read book Elements of Economics written by A. Grant Fradenburgh and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of Economics This book is designed to be an introduction to the science of economics. Technical discussions and difficult terminology have been avoided. The author has endeavored to write a book of practical value to the student, but is convinced that any practical work must be founded upon sound theory. There are many economic questions upon which there may be differences of opinion. Both sides of most disputed questions are given. Students should be encouraged to draw their own conclusions after weighing the evidence. While the experience of most teachers of economics has convinced them that one book should be followed as a guide, students should read references in other works. Fortunately there are many excellent books - perhaps too difficult in parts for the beginner - containing many chapters that can be read with profit by even an immature student. Among many works suitable for reference purposes the following are especially recommended: Bulloch, Introduction to the Study of Economics; Carver, Principles of Political Economy; Ely, Outlines of Economics; Fetter, Principles of Economics; Seager, Introduction to Economics; and Turner, Introduction to Economics. Grateful acknowledgment is made to the publishers and authors of copyrighted books for permission to use selections. This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Exposition in Outline of the Relation of Certain Economic Principles to Social Readjustment The connection between the economic and the sociological part of this dissertation requires a word of explanation. If there were perfect agreement as to the true principles of economics, it would only be necessary for the writer to postulate those principles, and then show that the possibility of effecting, by social action, a more equitable distribution of wealth than now prevails, was in accord with them, illustrating his thought by reference to some special line or lines of social readjustment. The fact being, however, that there is not entire agreement as to the true principles of economic theory, it becomes necessary, for one who would appeal to such principles in support of his social doctrine, to set forth that which he regards as the true economic theory. The outline of economic theory thus required, the writer has endeavored to keep within the bounds which its subordination to the purpose of the essay requires; and he has accordingly confined himself in the main to such a brief statement of the most general principles as should be consistent with an adequately suggestive presentation of the point of view. That he should be entirely successful in giving to each element of economic theory to which reference is made its due prominence, and no more, is hardly to be expected. In large measure he believes his economic theory to be in accord with that generally accepted by economists, and he has therefore felt at liberty to pass over the field very lightly, and to present in briefest outline so much of it as it seemed necessary to present at all; but at certain points - as in his explanation of interest, which differs somewhat from that of any other writer - he has felt obliged to speak with greater fullness. If interest is to tie justified, its relation to capital and to rent and wages must be understood. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. They generally deal either with difficult portions of the subject that are best postponed till the reader has some idea of the general drift of what he is doing, or else with objections that will probably not present themselves at first, and are better not dealt with till they rise naturally. Download or read book An Outline of the Elements of Economics written by William Henry Kiekhofer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Outline of the Elements of Economics The course in the Elements of Economics extends throughout the year, carrying four credits per semester. The first semesters work (Economics la) may be elected without the second (Economics lb), but students desiring a general survey of the whole field of economics are advised to take both Economics la and lb. An attempt is made, however, to give to students, whose programs do not permit them to elect more than one semester's work in the Elements as complete a course in Economics la as possible. The work of the first semester includes a portrayal of the economic struggle, production, valuation and distribution, and the problems connected with labor in industry - Parts I-IV of this Outline. The second semesters work includes exchange, consumption, public finance, economic policies and politics - Parts V-VIII of this Outline. Students may enter upon a continuous years work with the opening of either the first or second semester. Five methods of instruction are used in the course: the lecture, the class discussion, the written exercise, collateral reading, and the personal conference. The Lecture. - In the two lectures per week some descriptive material will be presented, due to the division of labor between the lecture and class discussion, but it will always be the main purpose of the lecture to explain, to correlate, to apply, and if possible to inspire. The Class Discussion. - The class will be divided into sections of approximately twenty students each for the purpose of discussing the subject upon the basis of textbook study and collateral reading. The meeting of the section is not for the purpose of oral quizzing or examination, but for developing the subject by the method of question and answer. The class discussion aims at clarifying the subject for the student, and is a coordinate branch of instruction with the lecture. Download or read book Classical Economic Theory and the Modern Economy written by Steven Kates and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2020-06-26 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economic theory reached its zenith of analytical power and depth of understanding in the middle of the nineteenth century among John Stuart Mill and his contemporaries. This book explains what took place in the ensuing Marginal Revolution and Keynesian Revolution that left economists less able to understand how economies operate. It explores the false mythology that has obscured the arguments of classical economists, providing a pathway into the theory they developed.
