Book Balancing Sequencing and Determining the Number and Length of Workstations in a Mixed Model Assembly Line

Download or read book Balancing Sequencing and Determining the Number and Length of Workstations in a Mixed Model Assembly Line written by Fatemeh Mohebalizadehgashti and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The single model assembly line is a traditional type of assembly line, which assembles only one product in a large quantity. On the other hand, the mixed model assembly line assembles different models of a product simultaneously. Therefore, it gives a chance to companies to retain the market by satisfying various demands of customers. Because of this advantage, companies are motivated to change their assembly line from the single model to the mixed model. Balancing and sequencing problems are two important challenges in the mixed model assembly line. There are a large number of studies that have focused on balancing and sequencing problems separately. However, in this thesis, we study balancing and sequencing problems of the mixed model assembly line simultaneously. A mixed integer linear programming model is proposed to solve these problems simultaneously when the assembly line has the continuous motion and when common tasks between different models of a product can be assigned to different workstations. Objectives in this thesis are minimizing the length of workstations, minimizing the stations cost, and minimizing the tasks duplication cost. A branch and bound algorithm is exploited to solve the model. Following that, the proposed model is extended to show that it can satisfy the assembly line with the synchronous configuration. At the next step, a hybrid genetic algorithm, which is a combination of the genetic algorithm and linear programming algorithm, is employed to solve the proposed model for large size problems. Finally, numerical examples are presented to show how the proposed hybrid genetic algorithm solves the proposed model effectively.

Book On a Multi product Assembly Line Balancing Problem

Download or read book On a Multi product Assembly Line Balancing Problem written by Stephen D. Roberts and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A multi-product assembly line balancing problem is presented. The problem is formulated as a linear integer programming problem for which zero-one programming is applicable. A reformulation based on finding the shortest route in a finite directed network is developed and an example problem is solved. (Author).

Book Integer Programming and Related Areas

Download or read book Integer Programming and Related Areas written by C. Kastning and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integer Prograw~ing is one of the most fascinating and difficult areas in the field of Mathematical Optimization. Due to this fact notable research contributions to Integer Programming have been made in very different branches of mathematics and its applications. Since these publications are scattered over many journals, proceedings volumes, monographs, and working papers, a comprehensive bibliography of all these sources is a helpful tool even for specialists in this field. I initiated this compilation of literature in 1970 at the Institut fur ~konometrie und Operations Research, University of Bonn. Since then many collaborators have contributed to and worked on it. Among them Dipl.-Math. Claus Kastning has done the bulk of the work. With great perseverance and diligence he has gathered all the material and checked it with the original sources. The main aim was to incorporate rare and not easily accessible sources like Russian journals, preprints or unpublished papers. Without the invaluable and dedicated engagement of Claus Kastning the bibliography would never have reached this final version. For this reason he must be considered its responsible editor. As with any other collection this literature list has a subjective viewpoint and may be in some sense incomplete. We have however tried to be as complete as possible. The bibliography contains 4704 different publications by 6767 authors which were classified by 11839 descriptor entries.

Download or read book Autonomous Search written by Youssef Hamadi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-05 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decades of innovations in combinatorial problem solving have produced better and more complex algorithms. These new methods are better since they can solve larger problems and address new application domains. They are also more complex which means that they are hard to reproduce and often harder to fine-tune to the peculiarities of a given problem. This last point has created a paradox where efficient tools are out of reach of practitioners. Autonomous search (AS) represents a new research field defined to precisely address the above challenge. Its major strength and originality consist in the fact that problem solvers can now perform self-improvement operations based on analysis of the performances of the solving process -- including short-term reactive reconfiguration and long-term improvement through self-analysis of the performance, offline tuning and online control, and adaptive control and supervised control. Autonomous search "crosses the chasm" and provides engineers and practitioners with systems that are able to autonomously self-tune their performance while effectively solving problems. This is the first book dedicated to this topic, and it can be used as a reference for researchers, engineers, and postgraduates in the areas of constraint programming, machine learning, evolutionary computing, and feedback control theory. After the editors' introduction to autonomous search, the chapters are focused on tuning algorithm parameters, autonomous complete (tree-based) constraint solvers, autonomous control in metaheuristics and heuristics, and future autonomous solving paradigms. Book Principles of Constraint Programming

Download or read book Principles of Constraint Programming written by Krzysztof Apt and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003-08-28 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Constraints are everywhere: most computational problems can be described in terms of restrictions imposed on the set of possible solutions, and constraint programming is a problem-solving technique that works by incorporating those restrictions in a programming environment. It draws on methods from combinatorial optimisation and artificial intelligence, and has been successfully applied in a number of fields from scheduling, computational biology, finance, electrical engineering and operations research through to numerical analysis. This textbook for upper-division students provides a thorough and structured account of the main aspects of constraint programming. The author provides many worked examples that illustrate the usefulness and versatility of this approach to programming, as well as many exercises throughout the book that illustrate techniques, test skills and extend the text. Pointers to current research, extensive historical and bibliographic notes, and a comprehensive list of references will also be valuable to professionals in computer science and artificial intelligence.
