Book An Innovative Educational Design for Healing Wounded Men

Download or read book An Innovative Educational Design for Healing Wounded Men written by Herb Robinson Ph. D. and published by . This book was released on 2006-02-01 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My experience with Internet dating has balled down to this. I have met very nice men on the Internet. I have had long conversations with some of them, I have dated some of them and I even had sexual relations with a couple of them, all within a two year span. The advantage of Internet dating is meeting numerous people you wouldn't normally meet in one's daily life. If you join an Internet dating service be serious about it. You must be willing to get engaged or married if the person seems right for you. You must be willing to get right down dirty and have sex with a few of these desperate souls. You must be willing to sell a little bit of your soul in order for you to find a new and different kind of soul mate. I, apparently wasn't willing to do much of the above. I couldn't go outside of my "ideal man" and I let a few of the real good ones go on to pursue someone else. I really wasn't ready to get married and dedicate my life to any one man's schedule, and sometimes one has to do these things to make the man feel secure about his life. I wouldn't meet most of the men I communicated with on the Internet and/or the telephone therefore I limited my chances of meeting a possible "Mr. close to being right". I was serious about finding a friend/mate, but I wasn't serious enough about following through with the whole dating scene. I just didn't commit myself enough to find love on the Internet. I personally believe that Internet dating is a fantastic outlet to meeting people and I am not trying to dissuade anyone else from using this tool. I have tried a couple of Internet dating services and I am still alone. I am, obviously not the only one having a problem finding their "perfect mat" because 95% of the men who were on the Internet when I joined the dating services are still profiled and apparently still looking. I will probably continue to use the Internet as a dating tool periodically because you will never know what lies in one's future. I might meet someone as selective as I am.....but that will be yet another book.

  • Pages : 397 pages

Download or read book Wounded by School written by Kirsten Olson and published by Teachers College Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While reformers and policymakers focus on achievement gaps, testing, and accountability, millions of students mentally and emotionally disengage from learning and many gifted teachers leave the field. Ironically, today’s schooling is damaging the single most essential component to education—the joy of learning How do we recognize the “wounds” caused by outdated schooling policies? How do we heal them? In her controversial new book, education writer and critic Kirsten Olson brings to light the devastating consequences of an educational approach that values conformity over creativity, flattens student’s interests, and dampens down differences among learners. Drawing on deeply emotional stories, Olson shows that current institutional structures do not produce the kinds of minds and thinking that society really needs. Instead, the system tends to shame, disable, and bore many learners. Most importantly, she presents the experiences of wounded learners who have healed and shows what teachers, parents, and students can do right now to help themselves stay healthy. “We need to replace industrial schooling with more genuinely caring and humane ways of teaching, and Olson clearly shows us why and how to do it.” —Ron Miller, Editor, Education Revolution magazine “Wounded by School is not merely a technical repair manual for our broken schools, it is a guide to how to revive their purpose, their spirit, and their hope.” —David H. Rose, Founding Director, CAST (the Center for Applied Special Technology) “Kirsten Olson’s book is refreshingly unlike the general run of sludge I associate with writing about pedagogy. I can’t imagine anyone not being better for reading this book—Twice!” —John Taylor Gatto, author of Dumbing Us Down “I invite anyone invested in American public schools (and I hope that’s all of us) to read this book and join hands in building schools that help every student not only heal but thrive.” —Terry Chadsey, Associate Director, Center for Courage & Renewal “Olson questions the appropriateness of school structures, norms, rituals, and routines that were set in place—cast in stone more than a century ago—that now seem dangerously anachronistic and alienating. And she asks us to consider the ways in which we might create more cherishing and inclusive school cultures that would incite learning and love.” —From the Foreword by Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot, Harvard Graduate School of Education

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A rare combination of vivid science, compassionate storytelling, and lasting spiritual lessons. A delight to read.” –Philip Yancey Our bodies are designed to heal. We fall off our bikes and skin our knees—and without effort on our part, the skin looks like new in a few days. But while our skinned knees easily heal, it can sometimes feel like our emotional and relational wounds are left gaping open, broken beyond repair. If our bodies instinctively know how to heal physical injuries, could they also help us understand how to restore painful emotional and relational ruptures? In their groundbreaking debut book, physician Jennie McLaurin and scientist Cymbeline T. Culiat write Designed to Heal: a fascinating look at how the restorative processes of the body can model patterns we may adapt to heal the acute and chronic wounds of our social bodies. Through engaging patient stories, imaginative travels through the body’s microcellular landscapes, accessible references to current research, and reflections on the image of God, Designed to Heal offers a new perspective for healing our social divisions. By learning how the body is created with mechanisms that optimize a flourishing recovery from life’s inevitable wounds, we are given a model for hopeful, faithful, and enduring healing in all other aspects of our lives. Our wounds don’t have to have the last word.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecologizing Education explores how we can reenvision education to meet the demands of an unjust and rapidly changing world. Going beyond "green" schooling programs that aim only to shape behavior, Sean Blenkinsop and Estella Kuchta advance a pedagogical approach that seeks to instills eco-conscious and socially just change at the cultural level. Ecologizing education, as this approach is called, involves identifying and working to overcome anti-ecological features of contemporary education. This approach, called ecologizing education, aims to develop a classroom culture in sync with the more-than-human world where diversity and interdependency are intrinsic. Blenkinsop and Kuchta illustrate this educational paradigm shift through the real-world stories of two public elementary schools located in British Columbia. They show that this approach to learning starts with recognizing the environmental and social injustices that pervade our industrialized societies. By documenting how ecologizing education helps children create new relationships with the natural world and move toward mutual healing, Blenkinsop and Kuchta offer a roadmap for what may be the most potent chance we have at meaningful change in the face of myriad climate crises. Timely, practical, and ultimately inspirational, Ecologizing Education is vital reading for any parent, caregiver, environmentalist, or educator looking for wholistic education that places nature and the environment front and center.

Philosophical issues, such as musical cognition, the philosophy of research theory, curriculum, and educating musically, are also explored in relationship to policy issues. In addition to surveying the literature, each chapter considers the significance of the research and provides suggestions for future study.Covering a broad range of topics and addressing the issues of music education at all age levels, from early childhood to motivation and self-regulation, this handbook is an invaluable resource for music teachers, researchers, and scholars.
