Book An Index to Legal Periodical Literature Classic Reprint

Download or read book An Index to Legal Periodical Literature Classic Reprint written by Leonard Augustus Jones and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Index to Legal Periodical Literature I have attempted in this Index to refer to the articles relating to matters of law and legislation contained in the whole body of periodical literature in the English language published prior to January, 1887. To this end I have included references to the articles, papers, correspondence, annotated cases, and biographical notices in the legal journals of America, England, Scotland, Ireland, and the English Colonies; and to such articles in the principal literary reviews and magazines of these countries as seemed to belong properly to legal literature. I have also included references to the papers and proceedings of the American Bar Association, and of the various State Bar Associations; and also references to such of the papers and trans actions of the English and American Social Science Associations, and of the Statistical Society, as seemed to come within the scope Of this Index. I have given much attention to references to biographical articles relating to distinguished judges and lawyers, both living and deceased. Accordingly, such notices in all the journals and reviews, which seemed to be of value, even when brief, have been referred to. Moreover, all the reports Of the American courts, some three thousand volumes, have been examined volume by volume, in order to make references to the proceedings in court and eulogies upon the occasion of the decease Of eminent judges and lawyers. Generally, in references to biographical notices, the date of the birth and of the death (of deceased persons) is given after the names, 'thus serving to identify those referred to, and at the same time to afford in the Index itself this item Of information. Book The American Bar Association

Download or read book The American Bar Association written by James C. Carter and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-05-06 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The American Bar Association: The Ideal and the Actual in the Law, the Annual Address Delivered by James C. Carter at the Thirteenth Annual Meeting, August 21, 1890 But, notwithstanding the extravagant manifestations of the ideal tendency, it is a highly useful attribute of our nature. It constitutes the true nobility of the individual man, and its activity marks a spiritual and progressive, as distinguished from a sensual and sliding, age. It is necessary indeed that it be stimulated, or restrained, according to the field of activity in which it operates, and the subject upon which it may be em ployed. The poet, the painter, the sculptor, the musical com poser may give it a free rein, but the statesman, the moralist, the jurist, must check and moderate it, and blend it with an exercise of those other faculties which deal with the world of matter and life, rather than with the realm of ideas. This book was released on 2017-11-08 with total page 842 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Report of the Forty-Third Annual Meeting of the American Bar Association Held at St. Louis, Missouri, August 25, 26, 27, 1920 Craft is the vice, not the spirit, of the profession. Trick is pro fessional prostitution. Falset is professional apostasy. The strength of a lawyer is in thorough knowledge of legal truth, in thorough devotion to legal right. Truth and integrity can do more in the profession than the subtlest and wiliest devices. The power of integrity is the rule; the power of fraud is the exception. Emulation and zeal lead lawyers astray; but the general law of the profession is duty, not success. In it, as elsewhere, in human life. The judgment of success is but the verdict of little minds. Professional duty, faith fully and well performed, is the lawyer's glory. This is equally true of the Bench and of the Bar. - edward G. Ryan.
