Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of Subsonic Coaxial Free Turbulent Mixing written by D. E. Chriss and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turbulent coaxial air-air mixing and hydorgen-air mixing were studied. The ratio of outer stream to jet velocity was varied from 0.12 to 1.52 for the air-air mixing streams and from 0.16 to 0.42 for the hydrogen-air systems. Special emphasis was placed on the determination of the turbulent transport properties (especially the eddy viscosity and the Prandtl number) from the mean flow field measurements by use of an integral technique. Radial and axial profiles of velocity, concentration, shear stress, and eddy viscosity are presented, as well as radial profiles of the turbulent Prandtl number and representative static pressure profiles.

This book was released on 2018-08-16 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lighthill acoustic analogy approach combined with Reynolds-averaged Navier Stokes is used to predict the sound generated by unsteady viscous flow past a circular cylinder assuming a correlation length of 10 cylinder diameters. The two-dimensional unsteady flow field is computed using two Navier-Stokes codes at a low Mach number over a range of Reynolds numbers from 100 to 5 million. Both laminar flow as well as turbulent flow with a variety of eddy viscosity turbulence models are employed. Mean drag and Strouhal number are examined, and trends similar to experiments are observed. Computing the noise within the Reynolds number regime where transition to turbulence occurs near the separation point is problematic: laminar flow exhibits chaotic behavior and turbulent flow exhibits strong dependence on the turbulence model employed. Comparisons of far-field noise with experiment at a Reynolds number of 90,000, therefore, vary significantly, depending on the turbulence model. At a high Reynolds number outside this regime, three different turbulence models yield self-consistent results. Cox, Jared S. and Rumsey, Christopher L. and Brentner, Kenneth S. and Younis, Bassam A. Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of the Interaction of an Acoustic Field and a Plane Turbulent Jet written by Kenneth F. Kaiser and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental study was conducted to determine the effect of a transverse acoustic wave on a two-dimensional turbulent jet. The investigation consisted of taking mean pressure profiles at numerous axial locations to determine the jet widening rate, the jet decay rate, and the geometric and velocity virtual origins. A method was also devised, employing four hot wires, to determine the jet widening rate more readily than was possible from a reduction of the pressure profiles. (Author).
