Download or read book An Analytical Exposition of the Social Welfare Role of Wealth in Islam written by Ahmad Bello Dogarawa and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper discusses the social welfare role of wealth in Islam. The paper, which is based on literature survey, posits that Islam prescribes a social welfare role on the wealth of the rich towards the economically disadvantaged members of the society. It explains the means by which wealth could be created, enhanced, preserved and distributed for the benefit of oneself and the society at large. It also maintains a balance between individualism and collectivism with regard implementation of wealth distribution policies by assigning the roles to individuals, the family, the community and finally the State. The paper concludes that in order to effectively discharge the responsibility, the principles and ethics of ownership of wealth in Islam should be strictly adhered to, and a balance should be made between income and expenses, between self-desire and community service, between creating wealth and hoarding it, between wealth accumulation and distributive justice.

Book The Economic System of the Early Islamic Period

Download or read book The Economic System of the Early Islamic Period written by Seyed Kazem Sadr and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-23 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an economic analysis of the earliest Islamic society, focusing on the policies of the Messenger of Islam (Sawa) and his successors during the first four formative decades of Islam. Two institutions of great importance – the market and the public treasury (Baitul Mal) – and their roles in the development of the private and public sectors are particularly emphasized in this study. The first part of the book is devoted to the economic and cultural dimensions of life in the Arabian Peninsula during the pre-Islamic period, including an analysis of trade and financial relationships with the Roman and Persian economies; the challenges faced by the Messenger’s mission and the economic policies of the Messenger after the migration to Madinah are also examined in detail. The author then moves on to a devoted analysis of the nature and functions of the public treasury, its revenues and expenditures, as well as financial and fiscal policies. Also examined is the role of the public sector in maintaining equilibrium in the financial and real sectors, as well as in promoting economic growth and employment. Analysis of the institution of the market, its characteristics, and its functions during the earliest Islamic period constitutes the third section of the book. The behaviors of consumers, producers, and investors in an economy without an interest rate mechanism are also addressed here. The final section investigates the fundamental objective of Islam for human societies – that is, justice – within the context of discussions in earlier parts of the book. The author uses historical economic data, facts, and evidences that are reported from the period, both prior to and after the establishment of the Islamic State, to explore the economic relations, policies, and models that were in practice and applied at that time.

Book The Muslim World After 9 11

Download or read book The Muslim World After 9 11 written by Angel Rabasa and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2004-11-17 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Momentous events since September 11, 2001-Operation Enduring Freedom, the global war on terrorism, and the war in Iraq-have dramatically altered the political environment of the Muslim world. Many of the forces influencing this environment, however, are the products of trends that have been at work for many decades. This book examines the major dynamics that drive changes in the religio-political landscape of the Muslim world-a vast and diverse region that stretches from Western Africa through the Middle East to the Southern Philippines and includes Muslim communities and diasporas throughout the world-and draws the implications of these trends for global security and U.S. and Western interests. It presents a typology of ideological tendencies in the different regions of the Muslim world and identifies the factors that produce religious extremism and violence. It assesses key cleavages along sectarian, ethnic, regional, and national lines and examines how those cleavages generate challenges and opportunities for the United States. Finally, the authors identify possible strategies and political and military options for the United States to pursue in response to changing conditions in this critical and volatile part of the world.

This book was released on 2020-04-20 with total page 797 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the financial crisis of 2007/2008, a renewed discussion on the ethics and finance is being examined from different dimensions – finance for good society, responsible finance, ethical finance, financial crimes, and financial repression. The principal objective of this Handbook on Ethics of Islamic Economics and Finance is to provide a deeper understanding of the ethical underpinning of Islamic economics and finance. The reader will notice that the Handbook reflects a diversity of views on the subject of economic and business ethics in Islam across the intellectual spectrum of Muslim thought over the globe. Handbook attempts to find answers to some questions concerning the definition and characteristics of the ethical system in Islam. What is its goal and how do its rules and practices ensure welfare for individuals and society? Are the moral principles universal and invariable or do they change and adapt with the social changes of communities and progress in science and technology? Is the present generation accountable for the welfare of future generations? Where is the boundary between law and ethics and who guarantees their adoption and implementation?

Book excerpt: This book challenges the interventionist stance of Islamic economics as well as its presumption that "riba" equals interest. An Islamic economy, it argues, is essentially a market economy, but it differs from capitalist economies because both its institutions and the structure of, for example, property rights are specifically Islamic, deriving from Qur n and other sources of Islamic law. The book also focuses on the similarities and differences between "riba" and interest, establishes the often neglected connection between the two, and explores the ramifications of this connection for Islamic financial systems.
