Book Frontiers of Japanese Management Control Systems

Download or read book Frontiers of Japanese Management Control Systems written by Eri Yokota and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-10 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a multilateral view of Japanese management control systems (MCS), presents the frameworks of MCS theory, and integrates those systems based on quantitative and qualitative research. Readers will learn how Japanese MCS were investigated by researchers and why they chose the existing frameworks. Not only are the topics clarified with regard to Japanese MCS; empirical evidence from Japan is also provided. At the outset, the frameworks of MCS used by Japanese researchers are explained, and the reasons they choose those frameworks are investigated. Following that exploration, readers are shown a close examination of MCS, which are thought to be difficult to understand in Japan. In Japanese companies, however, these systems are generally used, so in other words Japanese companies use MCS without considering its frameworks. It is a baffling phenomenon, thus a fine topic of research. After a comprehensive review of the literature, the current status of Japanese MCS is presented by using both quantitative and qualitative research. By the end of the book, readers will have a firm grasp of how Japanese firms use MCS and what MCS means for Japanese companies.

Book Japanese Management in Change

Download or read book Japanese Management in Change written by Norio Kambayashi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-09-18 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the burst of the “economic bubble” in the 1990s, many Japanese companies were required to reform their management systems. Changes in corporate governance were widely discussed during that decade in studies on “Japanese management.” These discussions have resulted in little progress, however, since Americanization became the dominant discourse concerning governance and the management system. There have been few studies conducted from an academic point of view on the internal aspects of organizations that practice traditional Japanese management theory. This book examines how, and the degree to which, the development of market principles accompanying the advances of globalization has affected the traditional Japanese system. It focuses on four aspects of corporate management: management institutions, strategy, organization, and human resource management. The aggregation of the new management system in Japanese companies is regarded as a distinctive Japanese-style system of management. With emphasis on these four aspects, research was conducted on the basic structure of that system, following changes in the market, technology, and society. Further, specific functions of the basic structure of the Japanese-style management system were studied. Those findings are included here, along with a discussion and analysis of the direction of future changes.

Book Japanese Management in Evolution

Download or read book Japanese Management in Evolution written by Tsutomu Nakano and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-20 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Japanese Management in Evolution illustrates the significant changes that have been taking place in Japanese business by focusing on "emerging industries" in the relatively neglected service and "creative" sectors as well as other key industries, and to put those changes in historical perspective by providing an overview of business development since World War II. By employing state-of-the-art research techniques and unconventional innovative approaches in analysing Japanese management – including network and discourse analysis, ethnographic explorations, and more – the book reveals historical developments and in-depth analyses of established and emerging composition of sectors and industries where cultural capital matters. Throughout the book, the common theme conveyed to readers is a consistently strong message that the change is ongoing and the evolution of management style is real in the Japanese context. The book would be of great interest to researchers, academics and practitioners in fields of global management, international management, and Asian capitalism.

Book Japanese Management Techniques

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2009 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, language: English, abstract: Japanese Management Techniques Alzadjali, B. (2009) 2 - 10 There is no doubt that every person from all walks of life is indeed using a Japanese product or technology in his daily life, whether it is cars, pens or paper. Indeed, Japan provided the world with many successful global companies and brands such as Sony, Fujitsu, HP and Toyota. These global Japanese brands did not only affect Japanese economy, it also affected the world economy and trade. These industrial revolutions put Japan on one of the six big industrial countries alongside the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France and Italy. It is not the manufacturing elements that made Japan reach that, but there is also a great management system. The success of their approaches was not by adopting a fixed accounting system or by Activity-based costing ABC, but by using systematic flexible systems (Patel and Russell 1994, pp.64-65). In the last 50 years, Japan brought to the world a successful management style starting with a government model in the early 1950s, to a corporate model in the 1980s (Porter et al. 2002; Whitehill 1991). The root of the modern Japanese management goes back to post Second World War, when Japan started its economic recovery. Japan started a phenomenal revolution management system (Porter et al. 2002; Whitehill 1991). Towards the 1970s, research showed that the United States and some European countries used a similar system (Hayashi 2002). In 1980s the time came to challenge just how these systems would work out under the Japanese corporate management systems. Professor William Ouchi's book, about the Japanese management system entitled Theory Z: how American business can meet the Japanese challenge (England 1983; Hayashi 2002). The book became a standard management system practice in the United States for more than 20 years. During the last centu

Book Japanese Management Accounting

Download or read book Japanese Management Accounting written by Susumu Ueno and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper provides scholars and practicing accountants a comprehensive and objective picture of current Japanese management accounting methods and practices. The picture is comprised of discussions of three fields related to specific aspects of organizations (corporate-level management methods and practices, front-line management accounting methods and practices and management accounting methods and practices at small and medium-sized enterprises), as well as the pervasive changes to all organizations due to information and communication technology (ICT) and disclosure rule changes.Firstly, we discuss the development and status of corporate-level management methods and practices used by large Japanese companies. Corporate-level management accounting methods and practices discussed include planning and budgeting, hoshin kanri, the balanced scorecard, performance management, and compensation management. Second, we move to topics of front-line management accounting methods and practices often observed in Japan. The topics include the relationship between management accounting and Cost Accounting Standards, JIT production and business continuity management (BCM) and quality control. Third, since a majority of companies in Japan are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), we discuss current use of management accounting methods and practices at SMEs.In the past decades, management accounting practices in Japan have changed markedly by adapting to innovations in information and communication technology (ICT). More recently, revised disclosure rules also caused significant changes to Japanese management accounting practices. Thus, throughout this paper, we examine the impacts of ICT and new disclosure rules to Japanese management accounting practices. The knowledge and analysis in this study provide an insightful basis for the improvement and development of managerial accounting methods and practices.

Book Translating and Incorporating American Management Thought into Japan

Download or read book Translating and Incorporating American Management Thought into Japan written by Izumi Mitsui and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-10-11 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the establishment process of the Japanese style of management (JSM). Traditionally, it has been widely believed that the JSM is native to Japan and consists of three pillars: lifetime employment, a seniority-based wage system, and company unions. This book opposes these traditional views on the JSM and argues that it has been shaped by the influence of management theories and ideas of other countries. The JSM has not only adopted the ideas and concepts of other countries, but also has refined, translated, and customized them to make such ideas and concepts acceptable in Japan. The hypothesis presented here is that in the postwar period of rapid growth, the JSM was a hybrid set of management theories and techniques greatly influenced by American ideas about management. This book concentrates on the impact of American management theories and ideas on the JSM. Taking the historical point of view, it clarifies that impact not only for academics but also for business people. The hypothesis propounded here is that some of those theories and ideas have been accepted whereas some of them have been rejected and eventually made irrelevant. The following issues are discussed: scientific management, the human relations school, Barnard’s organizational theory, Drucker’s management thoughts, strategic management, human resource management, and corporate culture.

Book Case Studies In Japanese Management

Download or read book Case Studies In Japanese Management written by Parissa Haghirian and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2011-09-30 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a new opportunity for corporate strategy analysis within a Japanese context. It is the first academic textbook to be published in English which regroups case studies to emphasize key concepts in Japanese management. Where previous literature has set a separate focus on cultural, managerial and strategic variables, a holistic look is now taken at their influence on effective decision-making.Over 11 detailed cases depict issues in entering the Japanese market, strategic issues when managing in Japan, marketing management, crisis management, cross-cultural encounters and future technologies. The sophistication and depth of these studies, along with their teaching notes, provide the basis for pragmatic analysis. The mysticism surrounding Japanese culture seems magnified by the success of Japanese companies abroad, and the shortcomings of many MNEs that entered Japan ineffectively. Studying the empirical implications of these issues is a helpful exercise to develop more acute management reflexes in a Japanese setting. The book's carefully laid out cases will benefit business and humanities students who are researching Japan, as well as professionals who work within this sphere.
