Book excerpt: A SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLERBLACKWELL'S BOOK OF THE YEAR 2021Essential lessons on the world we live in, from one of our greatest young thinkers - a guide to what everybody is talking about today'Unparalleled and extraordinary . . . A bracing revivification of a crucial lineage in feminist writing' JIA TOLENTINO'I believe Amia Srinivasan's work will change the world' KATHERINE RUNDELL'Rigorously researched, but written with such spark and verve. The best non-fiction book I have read this year' PANDORA SYKES-------------------------How should we talk about sex? It is a thing we have and also a thing we do; a supposedly private act laden with public meaning; a personal preference shaped by outside forces; a place where pleasure and ethics can pull wildly apart. To grasp sex in all its complexity - its deep ambivalences, its relationship to gender, class, race and power - we need to move beyond 'yes and no', wanted and unwanted. We need to rethink sex as a political phenomenon. Searching, trenchant and extraordinarily original, The Right to Sex is a landmark examination of the politics and ethics of sex in this world, animated by the hope of a different one.SHORTLISTED FOR THE ORWELL PRIZE 2022LONGLISTED FOR THE POLARI FIRST BOOK PRIZE 2022LONGLISTED FOR THE BRITISH ACADEMY BOOK PRIZE 2022

Book Amia s Path

Download or read book Amia s Path written by Paula M. Watson and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-01-17 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amia's Path is an inspirational story that explores one's journey through life. Raised up in the church, Amia knew that when she started her own family, she wanted to raise them up in the church as well. It's about how she went through life trying not to abandon her foundation. She eventually realized that he came first in her life no matter the situation or circumstance, and this was what helped to get her through. Instilling those same principles and values in her children that she had learned growing up as she bounced from church to church and place to place became a challenge, but she stuck with what she knew. As she went through her journey, she wasn't trying to intentionally leave her past behind, but she was trying to find that balance. Little did she know there were people who were placed in her life who kept her from straying too far. They were a constant reminder of what she was used to, yet still, life took her away from what she had known. She became complacent. Although somewhat content with where she was at any given stage in her life, she was constantly being reminded of her foundation. She always felt as though there was something more. Something was missing. She needed more than what she was used to but didn't know what it was or what to do. Life happens. It happened to Amia. Although her life experiences had taken her away from the church, it was those same experiences that helped her to realize that no matter where she was or what she was doing, God was always there. She was trying to do everything herself, based on her own understanding. She realized that she needed God more than anything. What she didn't realize was that all she had to do was listen. She made changes in her life. Those changes put her in a better place, closer to God where she continued to work on her relationship with him.

Book The Codex Amiatinus and its Sister Bibles Scripture Liturgy and Art in the Milieu of the Venerable Bede

Download or read book The Codex Amiatinus and its Sister Bibles Scripture Liturgy and Art in the Milieu of the Venerable Bede written by Celia Chazelle and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2019-03-27 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Codex Amiatinus and its “Sister” Bibles examines the full Bibles (Bibles containing every scriptural text that producers deemed canonical) made at the northern English monastery of Wearmouth–Jarrow under Abbot Ceolfrith (d. 716) and the Venerable Bede (d. 735), and the religious, cultural, and intellectual circumstances of their production. The key manuscript witness of this monastery’s Bible-making enterprise is the Codex Amiatinus, a massive illustrated volume sent toward Rome in June 716, as a gift to St. Peter. Amiatinus is the oldest extant, largely intact Latin full Bible. Its survival is the critical reason that Ceolfrith’s Wearmouth–Jarrow has long been recognized as a pivotal center in the evolution of the design, structure, and contents of medieval biblical codices. Book excerpt: In the crucible of history, where the flames of empires clash, and the destinies of civilizations are forged, there exists a chapter often overlooked—a tale obscured by the dust of ages. It is a saga of untamed lands, ancient conflicts, and beings whose destinies were bound to the cosmic threads of gods and mortals alike. Within the shadows of the Roman Empire, during the fateful year of 376 AD, a narrative unfolded that would echo through the corridors of time, leaving behind a legacy woven with threads of love, war, and the supernatural. "Tears of The Aeon: The Gothic War" unravels against the setting of a world grappling with the chaos of an impending conflict between the mighty Roman Empire and the desperate Visigoths led by the enigmatic Chieftain Fritigern. Faced with the dual threats of the Roman legions and the merciless Huns, Fritigern makes a desperate plea to Emperor Valens for sanctuary within the borders of the empire. This plea sets in motion a series of events destined to reshape the fate of nations. A warrior, blessed with strength and abilities that defy the laws of men, embarks on a journey marked by love, and destined to attract the gaze of gods. Bound by an inexplicable connection, he finds himself entangled with a young Gothic woman from the Taifali Tribe, their union becoming a focal point for the unfolding cosmic drama. As the gods themselves take notice, the stage is set for the initiation of the end of the world. "Tears of The Aeon" invites you to traverse the realms of history and myth, where the fates of empires and the whims of divine beings converge in a tale of love, war, and the enduring echoes of an age-long past.
