Il problema era quello di far passare concetti così astratti. E, nello stesso tempo, dimostrare che un adolescente dei primi anni delle Scuole Superiori possiede queste capacità. Le Matematiche permettono, e questo è molto bello, di costruire modelli generali, di cui le cose più "tangibili" costituiscono casi particolari. Invece che partire, quindi, da definizioni astratte per denotare poi casi particolari, sono partito dagli esempi più tangibili ed intuitivi per costruire modelli astratti, mostrando poi che quanto è più usuale ne costituisce un particolare caso. Dando quindi la possibilità di fruire di strumenti potenti e decisamente versatili. Il lavoro può essere proseguito, introducendo matrici e tensori multidimensionali. Ma credo che il punto a cui sono arrivato possa essere già un risultato soddisfacente. Buona lettura, e grazie per il supporto al mio lavoro!

Originally published in 1591, it pioneered the notion of using symbols of one kind (vowels) for unknowns and of another kind (consonants) for known quantities, thus streamlining the solution of equations. Francois Viète (1540-1603), a lawyer at the court of King Henry II in Tours and Paris, wrote several treatises that are known collectively as The Analytic Art. His novel approach to the study of algebra developed the earliest articulated theory of equations, allowing not only flexibility and generality in solving linear and quadratic equations, but also something completely new—a clear analysis of the relationship between the forms of the solutions and the values of the coefficients of the original equation. Viète regarded his contribution as developing a "systematic way of thinking" leading to general solutions, rather than just a "bag of tricks" to solve specific problems. These essays demonstrate his method of applying his own ideas to existing usage in ways that led to clear formulation and solution of equations.

Many studies have treated work-related values as expressions of more general life values, and interpreted the differences between groups an cultures in terms of broader cultural patterns, historical trends, and adaptation to changing economic and technical environments. Work values have also been investigated at the level of occupations and the individual. In this case they have been related to interests and other motivational notions, and used to explain differences in people's occupational behavior, in particular vocational choice. A general assumption underlying most of the research and theorizing on values, has been that shared values (as expressed at the collective level on the one side and individual values as operating in daily occupational behavior on the other side) are somehow interrelated, although their causal relationships are still to be uncovered. This special issue deals with the theory and research on the relationship between peoples' values and work behavior. It presents a review of the sociological and psychological research literature on values and work, shows some typical findings from large scale research projects, and identifies some major theoretical and practical issues. More importantly, an explicit effort is made to interlink the different approaches by offering an integrative multilevel framework model. The contributions to this special issue, written by leading researchers in the field, underline the continuing importance of values for understanding what happens in the world of work.
