Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PREFACE This book is written for the enlisted men of Naval aviation. It is one of a series of books designed to give them the background information necessary to perform their aviation duties. A knowledge of aircraft fire control is of primary importance to Aviation Ordnancemen responsible for general maintenance work. But the subdivisions of Aviation Ordnancemen - that is, Aviation Bombsight Mechanics and Aviation Turret Mechanics - also need an understanding of aircraft fire control. They need to know the relationship of their specialties to the broad subject of ordnance. Starting with basic information on the science of ballistics, this book follows with a discussion of gunsights, boresighting and synchronizing. Then come torpedo directors, bombing and bombsights. In conclusion, there is a section on aerial gun cameras, aerial t DEGREEStrgets and towing equipment. As one of the Navy Training Courses, this book represents the joint endeavor of the Naval Air Technical Training Command and the Training Division of the Bureau of Naval Personnel. Book Naval Anti Aircraft Guns and Gunnery

Download or read book Naval Anti Aircraft Guns and Gunnery written by Norman Friedman and published by Naval Institute Press. This book was released on 2014-02-15 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book does for naval anti-aircraft defense what FriedmanÕs Naval Firepower did for surface gunnery Ð it makes a highly complex but historically crucial subject accessible to the layman. It traces the growing aerial threat from its inception in WWI and the response of each of the major navies down to the end of WWII, highlighting in particular the underestimated danger from dive-bombing. The work considers what effective AA fire-control required, and how well each navyÕs systems actually worked, analyzing the weapons, how they were placed on ships, and how this reflected the tactical concepts of naval AA defense. All important guns, directors and electronics are represented in close-up photos and drawings, and lengthy appendices detail their technical data. It is, simply, another superb contribution to naval technical history by its leading exponent.

Book Aviation Fuels with Improved Fire Safety

Download or read book Aviation Fuels with Improved Fire Safety written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1997-09-18 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reduction of the fire hazard of fuel is critical to improving survivability in impact-survivable aircraft accidents. Despite current fire prevention and mitigation approaches, fuel flammability can overwhelm post-crash fire scenarios. The Workshop on Aviation Fuels with Improved Fire Safety was held November 19-20, 1996 to review the current state of development, technological needs, and promising technology for the future development of aviation fuels that are most resistant to ignition during a crash. This book contains a summary of workshop discussions and 11 presented papers in the areas of fuel and additive technologies, aircraft fuel system requirements, and the characterization of fuel fires.

Book Systems Experts and Computers

Download or read book Systems Experts and Computers written by Agatha C. Hughes and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2011-01-21 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking book charts the origins and spread of the systems movement. After World War II, a systems approach to solving complex problems and managing complex systems came into vogue among engineers, scientists, and managers, fostered in part by the diffusion of digital computing power. Enthusiasm for the approach peaked during the Johnson administration, when it was applied to everything from military command and control systems to poverty in American cities. Although its failure in the social sphere, coupled with increasing skepticism about the role of technology and "experts" in American society, led to a retrenchment, systems methods are still part of modern managerial practice. This groundbreaking book charts the origins and spread of the systems movement. It describes the major players including RAND, MITRE, Ramo-Wooldrige (later TRW), and the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis—and examines applications in a wide variety of military, government, civil, and engineering settings. The book is international in scope, describing the spread of systems thinking in France and Sweden. The story it tells helps to explain engineering thought and managerial practice during the last sixty years.
