Book Adventures with Solar Haybox and Rocket Stove Cooking

Download or read book Adventures with Solar Haybox and Rocket Stove Cooking written by Jane Segaran and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-03-26 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a teenager living in Nigeria in the 70's, Seggy was always interested in cooking using the sun. Needless to say the first efforts with concave holes in the ground lined with silver foil were not very successful. Then in 2011 he was given a chance to visit Rwanda to promote low impact cooking technologies, such as solar and retained heat (haybox) cooking and rocket stoves. This rekindled his interest and Jane, always interested in sustainable projects, was also infected with a passion for fossil fuel free cooking. This book catalogues our journey over the last ten years, experimenting with solar, haybox and rocket stove cookers and spreading what we learnt as far and wide as possible. We have made several solar and haybox cookers at home and we share the designs of some of these as well as some of the interesting recipes that we tried out. One of the high points in our work was the trip to Sri Lanka in 2019 where we spent weeks working with a charity in the Vanni region. These and other outreach experiences at festivals and workshops are included inside. We hope that these will inspire some of you to make and use some of the designs that are outlined here.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many of the things you know about science began with Archimedes. What was so unusual about a man who spent almost his whole life on one small island, more than two thousand years ago? Many things about Archimedes were unusual. His mind was never still, but was always searching for something that could be added to the sum of things that were known in the world. No fact was unimportant; no problem was dull. Archimedes worked not only in his mind, but he also performed scientific experiments to gain knowledge and prove his ideas.

Book Handbook of Portable Appliance Testing

Download or read book Handbook of Portable Appliance Testing written by Seggy Segaran and published by . This book was released on 2021-11-30 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Portable Appliance Testing gives practical answers to questions raised during PAT testing. It is much easier to understand than the IET Code of Practice (COP). It strikes a balance between giving enough technical background and easy to follow practical advice in implementing a PAT testing scheme. In 2020 the IET launched Edition 5 of the "Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment". This introduced a number of significant changes to the recommendations on how Portable Appliance Testing is carried out. This latest edition of the handbook reflects these new recommendations. There is a brief summary of the changes in Appendix 7. Someone wanting to undertake PAT testing using a PASS/FAIL PAT Tester need only read through the Overview, Planning and Doing the Work sections to get started. If they come across any appliances that they are not quite sure how to test, then a quick look within the Test Examples section should provide an answer. For those wanting more technical information on how the tests are done and how to interpret the test results, the PAT Testing: Technical Information section should provide all the answers they are looking for. This section contains many practical tips and hints regarding PAT Testing of a variety of appliances that are found in offices, homes, schools and factories. Many of these are based around questions either from delegates or calls to our technical support line. Useful reference information has been tucked away in the Appendix. This includes a chapter on Basic Electrical Theory and a background to Electric Shock. This book is equally valuable to the newcomer to PAT Testing who intends to test in-house as well as the more experienced practitioner who plans to provide a PAT Testing service to other companies. It is now believed to be the most popular PAT testing title in the UK after the IET Code of Practice. It should also provide a source of useful information to those intending to take the City & Guilds 2377 examination."

Book The Long Descent

    Book Details:
  • Author : John Michael Greer
  • Publisher : New Society Publishers
  • Release : 2008-09-01
  • ISBN : 0865716099
  • Pages : 273 pages

Download or read book The Long Descent written by John Michael Greer and published by New Society Publishers. This book was released on 2008-09-01 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Americans are expressing deep concern about US dependence on petroleum, rising energy prices and the threat of climate change. Unlike the energy crisis of the 1970s, however, there is a lurking fear that, now, the times are different and the crisis may not easily be resolved. The Long Descent examines the basis of such fear through three core themes: Industrial society is following the same well-worn path that has led other civilizations into decline, a path involving a much slower and more complex transformation than the sudden catastrophes imagined by so many social critics today. The roots of the crisis lie in the cultural stories that shape the way we understand the world. Since problems cannot be solved with the same thinking that created thyem, these ways of thinking need to be replaced with others better suited to the needs of our time. It is too late for massive programs for top-down change; the change must come from individuals. Hope exists in actions that range from taking up a handicraft or adopting an "obsolete" technology, through planting an organic vegetable garden, taking charge of your own health care or spirituality, and building community. Focusing eloquently on constructive adaptation to massive change, this book will have wide appeal.
