Download or read book Conceptual and Methodological Issues on the Adjustment to Aging written by Sofia von Humboldt and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-25 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book approaches the concept of adjustment to aging and endeavors to build reader understanding of this construct through a critical review and discussion. Once the reader understands the origins and nature of adjustment to aging, a second innovation encompasses the development of a proposed empirical model of adjustment to aging and the analysis of its components and correlates. Measures to assess adjustment to aging, policies, programs and interventions comprising adjustment to aging and its components and correlates will also be addressed. Another innovation includes the multidimensional experience of adjustment to aging from the cultural perspective. Lastly, it addresses areas of future development related to this construct.Future policies and interventions in older populations need to integrate and debate the role of adjustment to aging, and ultimately consider a variety of different strategies, each with a different set of costs and benefits. Health and social professionals will be at the vanguard of policy making and community and institutional interventions. Hence, resources and tools to adequately prepare these individuals for the future years will be vital. It is the author's hope that this resource can be valuable for professionals and students working within the field of aging, as they develop research and intervention policies encompassing adjustment to aging in the coming years.

Book Adjustment and Psychological Well being Among Elderly Working and Non working Individuals

Download or read book Adjustment and Psychological Well being Among Elderly Working and Non working Individuals written by Rekha M. S and published by Kshitijsehrawatyt. This book was released on 2022-06-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INTRODUCTION 1.1: Aging Human beings can be proactive and engaged or, alternatively, passive and alienated, largely as a function of the social conditions in which they develop and function. As people abdicate from previous more enticing periods which was a time of "usefulness" or productive period, they enter the period of old age. Aging is an unavoidable phenomenon in all biological species as well as non-life forms. The elderly people ignoring the future as much as possible admire past regretting their earlier periods of life as they move away. According to Gorman - The ageing and development report (2017), the number of old age people in India is increasing with the improvement in life expectancy. The issues of the elderly are primarily economic, marked by the loss of independent income. One can't reverse nor stop the aging process; diseases and disability are part of old age, but it does not necessarily mean that we have to take them in negative way. With the changing family structure from interdependent joint families to independent nuclear families, our elders do not lead a safe, secure and dignified life. Enhancing quality of life and productivity is important and encouraging goal of gerontologists. A study into productive aging commissioned by the Office for the Ageing (Ranzijn, 2002) reported, quality of life research tends to see aging persons as recipients of external influences rather than active agents operating in context. It is argued that elderly people have unique talents in the realms of community development and citizenship. A paradigm shift in behavior to older people is required, towards viewing them as a resource rather than a burden. Proactive ageing can enhance an older individual's quality of life and by extension of the quality of life of the whole community. In everyday life we come across many benefits that are granted to the elderly, such as parking spaces near the entrance locations, preferred passwords in banks, half price for travel tickets and movies. All these benefits aim to bring more facilities, but account for only practical issues of quality of life and leave open their emotional and affective demands, that are already part for some time of the development of the life cycle of these elderly, or more modern denomination, of the late adults, seniors or persons in the late adulthood, who already,

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Processes of Aging: Social and Psychological Perspectives is based on a monumental series of studies on the psychological and social aspects of aging in relation to mental health. This effort gives scientists from North America and Europe an opportunity to explore the concepts, methodological problems, and conclusions of their researches in the rapidly growing field of gerontology. Much work has been done in an attempt to present this material in sequential and systematic fashion. Original work of sixty-six research workers from twelve countries is represented in this two-volume set. They offer an inventory of principal fields of gerontological research, in advanced countries. Human aging, in its many ramifications, is becoming one of the major areas of research interest among an increasing number of students in the biological, behavioral, and social sciences. Although the phenomena of aging were largely overlooked as subject matter for research during the early stages in the development of all basic sciences, it was inevitable that students would eventually become curious about the final processes of maturation. Events of recent years have hastened the need for social action on behalf of older people and, consequently, the need for scientific knowledge about their characteristics, circumstances, and requirements. Processes of Aging: Social and Psychological Perspectives will be of interest to research workers, teachers, and advanced students concerned with the psychological, psychiatric, psychosocial, and socioeconomic aspects of aging. Many of the theoretical and analytical discussions and the specific studies offer guidance for top-level planners and policy administrators in public agencies and voluntary organizations. This volume is highly sensitive to older people as such: how they feel about themselves and the world, and in the way they behave in relation to others. It is must reading in the health and welfare of aging. Richard H. Williams was chief, Professional Services Branch, National Institute of Mental Health. Clark Tibbits was deputy director, Special Staff on Aging, Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. Wilma Donohue was chairman, Division of Gerontology, Institute for Human Adjustment, and professor of psychology, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.

Book ADJUSTMENT PERSONALITY ASPECTS OF OLD PEOPLE A BRIEF STUDY

Download or read book ADJUSTMENT PERSONALITY ASPECTS OF OLD PEOPLE A BRIEF STUDY written by Dr. Sunil Laxmanrao Tribhuvan and published by Ashok Yakkaldevi. This book was released on 2020-10-21 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concept of Adjustment:- Adjustment refers to changes in our ways of behaving to meet the changing demands of our environments. Obviously, Adjustment can be defined as a person’s interaction with his environment. Each person constantly strives to meet his needs and reach his goals. At the same time he is under pressure from the environment to behave in certain ways. Adjustment involves the reconciliation of personal and environmental demands. Interaction means mutual bearing or influence. Every person is influenced by these surroundings. And each has same effect on the particular environmental settings of which he is a part. The relative amount of influence varies from setting to setting and from time to time within a particular setting. Sometimes an individual is more influenced than influential, and sometimes it is the other way around. Environment refers to everything external to the person with which he is in some relation. In the study of adjustment, the unit of study is frequently a social group. For example, the individual is studied in relation to his family or to the people with whom he work.
