Book The Asia Pacific Migratory Waterbird Conservation Strategy 1996 2000

Download or read book The Asia Pacific Migratory Waterbird Conservation Strategy 1996 2000 written by T. Mundkur and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Strategy covers seven board overlapping themes: conservation of species; conservation of habitats; research and monitoring ; education; information and awareness; training; and policy and legislation. These themes translate into several action points, notably the development and implementation of action plans for species groups (shorebirds, Anatidae and cranes), networks of sites of importance for species (shorebirds, cranes) reviews of legislation and policy, training and public information, and awareness plans as an attempt to enhance the conservation of migratory waterbirds and their habitats in the Asia-Pacific region until the end of the millenium. This paper summarises the process of international consultation and cooperation in the development and plants for implementation of the Strategy. [Authors' abstract].

Book Asia Pacific Migratory Waterbird Conservation Strategy

Download or read book Asia Pacific Migratory Waterbird Conservation Strategy written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An international committee, the Asia-Pacific Migratory Waterbird Conservation Committee (MWCC) was established to monitor the implementation of the Strategy. The Strategy has been very successful in promoting international cooperation and an awareness of the need to work together to promote conservation. A number of international and national activities have been undertaken, primarily through the implementation of three regional migratory waterbird conservation action plans (shorebirds, cranes and Anatidae) including the establishment of three networks of sites of international importance for these groups of waterbirds. The networks (as at December 2000) comprised 67 sites in 11 countries with new sites being added each year. Based on the successes of the Strategy over the past five years, the MWCC recommended the development and implementation of this second Strategy for the period 2001-2005.

Download or read book Tundra Plovers written by Des Thompson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2011-11-30 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are four species of tundra plover: the Grey Plover, and the Eurasian, Pacific, and American golden plovers. They breed only in the northern hemisphere, principally on tundra, and migrate far south to coastal mudflats, saltings and agricultural landscapes. They have attracted avid interest from birdwatchers and researchers worldwide, not least the authors who have studied all four species. The Eurasian Golden Plover has a special claim to fame as questions over its flight speed first prompted the compilation of the world bestseller the Guinness Book of Records! This ground-breaking book on shorebirds (waders) examines the taxonomy, appearance, behaviour, ecology and conservation of Golden and Grey plovers, and compares and contrasts their natural history and biogeography. There are detailed accounts on all aspects of their lifestyle including feeding, mating, parental care, moults, migration and avoidance of predators. The personal touches in this book add immensely to its value, not least the authors' first hand experiences of the birds and their haunts. Most of their work presented here has not been published before, adding to the significance of this highly original book. Long-awaited considerations of differences in plumage, vocalisations, habitat use, breeding, movements and food are included. The links between phylogeny, biogeography and behaviour are bound to excite interest. The comparative approach is highly detailed and refreshing, and marks the book as a classic. Ingvar Byrkjedal has also contributed all of the wonderful colour and line illustrations. Over fifty-five photographs, over one hundred and twenty tables and figures, and many other embellishments complete this definitive book.

Book Conservation Planning for Migratory Waterbirds in the Asia Pacific Flyways Bilateral and Multilateral Approaches

Download or read book Conservation Planning for Migratory Waterbirds in the Asia Pacific Flyways Bilateral and Multilateral Approaches written by K. Weaver and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Australia has two bilateral agreements for the conservation of migratory birds, with Japan and China respectively. This paper looks at the comparison between the bilateral approach to conservation and the multilateral approach. It then examines the progress that has been made in pursuing a multilateral approach to the conservation of migratory waterbirds in the Asia-Pacific flyways and looks at how important links between international mechanisms might be developed to promote the conservation of both habitats and migratory species of waterbirds.
