Book Current Topics in Bioenergetics

Download or read book Current Topics in Bioenergetics written by C. P. Lee and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current Topics in Bioenergetics, Volume 15: Structure, Biogenesis, and Assembly of Energy Transducing Enzyme Systems presents the reaction mechanisms involved in membrane-associated energy transducing processes at the molecular level. This book discusses the developments in the energy transducing systems. Organized into 11 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the composition and structural aspects of the four respiratory chain complexes. This text then discusses the genetic aspects of various energy transducing systems. Other chapters consider the electron transfer chains of chloroplast, mitochondria, and some photosynthetic bacteria, which contain a multiprotein complex with similar functional and structural properties. This book discusses as well the structure and function of multiple and variable amounts of subunits in cytochrome-c oxidase from various organisms. The final chapter deals with the interdisciplinary path of bioenergetics, with the center of gravity moving from chemistry through genetics to physics. This book is a valuable resource for biologists.

Book Molecular Mechanisms in Bioenergetics

Download or read book Molecular Mechanisms in Bioenergetics written by L. Ernster and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1992-12-16 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarises current knowledge of the structure, function, biosynthesis and regulation of energy-transducing enzymes inmitochondria, chloroplasts and bacteria. Each of the twenty chapters is written by top experts in their field, and Prof. Ernster has ensured that the book as a whole gives a well-integrated picture of the present state of knowledge of the field at its different levels and complexities. Since the publication of Bioenergetics edited by Lars Ernster in 1984, (New Comprehensive Biochemistry Vol. 9) the whole field of bioenergetics has undergone a tremendous expansion. Additionally a transition from membrane bioenergetics to molecular bioenergetics has accompanied this expansion - due mainly to the spectacular progress in the field of molecular biology over the past twenty years. Hence this volume, Molecular Mechanisms in Bioenergetics, is certain to be of interest, not only to the specialist in bioenergetics, but also to researchers working in the various fields of biophysics, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, cell biology and physiology. Also of interest, this volume contains an historical introduction, including a list of earlier publications relating to the history of bioenergetics.

Book Advances in Membrane Biochemistry and Bioenergetics

Download or read book Advances in Membrane Biochemistry and Bioenergetics written by Chong H. Kim and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is formulated from the papers presented at the International Symposium on "Membrane Biochemistry and Bioenergetics," held at the Rensselaerville Institute, Rensselaerville, New York, August 1986, in honor of Tsoo E. King on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of reconstitution of arespiratory chain system by Professor David Keilin and Tsoo E. King. Professor Tsoo E. King, to whom this volume is dedicated, has made enormous contributions to the field of isolation and reconstitution of membrane proteins and has continued to explore the frontiers of bioener getics. In particular, his persistent proposals on the existence of ubiquinone binding proteins from conceptualization to experimentation eventually convinced many scientists to study these proteins further . Professor King's preparation of reconstitutively active succinate dehydrogenase opened a new avenue in the fie1d of membrane bioenergetics, and his work has been greatly appreciated. The purpose of the symposium was to bring together scientists from diverse disciplines related to membrane bioenergetics to discuss the recent developments in the field. This symposium, initiated by the Capital District Bioenergetics Group, was attended by 100 scientists, 80 of whom presented their recent discoveries. The symposium was arranged in a sequence of platform lectures, poster presentations and discussion sessions so that all the participants had opportunities to discuss the subjects presented. Most of the participants contributed a chapter to this volume. We would like to express our regret to many other scientists including Professor King's friends, colleagues and students who could not attend due to various reasons.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emergence of the Biochemical Sciences is underlined by the FAOB symposium in Seoul and highlighted by this Satellite meeting on the "New Bioenergetics. " Classical mitochondrial electron transfer and energy coupling is now complemented by the emerging molecular biology of the respiratory chain which is studied hand in hand with the recognition of mitochondrial disease as a major and emerging study in the basic and clinical medical sciences. Thus, this symposium has achieved an important balance of the fundamental and applied aspects of bioenergetics in the modern setting of molecular biology and mitochondrial disease. At the same time, the symposium takes note not only of the emerging excellence of Biochemical Studies in the Orient and indeed in Korea itself, but also retrospectively enjoys the history of electron transport and energy conservation as represented by the triumvirate ofYagi, King and Slater. Many thanks are due Drs. Kim and Ozawa for their elegant organization of this meeting and its juxtaposition to the FAOB Congress. Britton Chance April 2, 1990 v PREFACE This book contains the contributed papers presented at the "International Symposium on Bioenergetics: Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Pathology", held in Seoul, Korea, August 18-21, 1989, sponsored by International Union of Biochemistry (as ruB Symposium No. 191) and Ewha Womans University, Seoul, Korea. The symposium was held in honor of Professor Kunio Yagi to commemorate his 70th birthday.

Book Anion Carriers of Mitochondrial Membranes

Download or read book Anion Carriers of Mitochondrial Membranes written by Angelo Azzi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to provide a functional organisation of the various biochemical processes, the intracellular environment is subdivided into compartments formed by organelles. Mitochondria serve to restore energy-rich compounds, while energy is mainly consumed in the cytosolic space. Molecules involved in these metabolic cycles have to cross the mitochondrial membrane via specialized carriers embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane. All relevant structural and functional aspects of the Anion Carriers of Mitochondrial Membranes as well as isolation procedures, reconstitution experiments and biogenesis of the carriers, kinetics of transport as well as the metabolic regulation mechanisms are treated in this volume.
